Sam sharpe was a Baptist preacher, and many pro slavery people thought the war was triggered by the anti slavery preachings of the baptists. It's aldo known as the Christmas Rebellion since it began on Christmas
It's called the Baptist war due to the fact that Sam sharpe, a slave with freedom of movement, was an honorary deacon for the Baptist church Of Jamaica. The Baptists were also believed to have spread revolutionary sentiment among the enslaved people who joined the revolt. The baptists were only really anti-slavery though, and hadn't been found to be triggering the war. In Jamaica, we also call it the Christmas Rebellion since the non revolt protest began around Christmas
Interesting, that the rebels' goal (at least in the beginning) was to receive wage for their forced labor rather than total freedom. Did slaves' uprisings do that often?
One of the reason to end slavery in 19th century. First was of course rebellion in Haiti. Simple dealing with rebellions were far more costly than maintaining slavery.
EmperorTigerStar, your videos are great, love your videos form Germany! 🇩🇪 I have an question, can you do a history about Germanic tribes form (450BC-225AD)?
I often defend the British Empire as not as bad as many people want it to be, given the context of the time. Jamaica is an exception, the British behaved horribly there.
I do agree that Britain wasn’t particularly bad compared to other world powers of the time but yeah like all the other great powers, they do shit like this
Ah what the heck, one more quick video for the year.
nice video btw
We appreciate the quality content from you as always!
The last time I was this early to an EmperorTigerstar video, the Baptist War was still raging

Great Video, It showcases rebellion wars we might of not heard of! Thanks for creating this masterpiece even though it’s a minute long lol
I just sent in my university project on this topic today and I see this
life never fails to surprise me
Only in the British Empire would slaves go on strike before rebelling.
Would have stayed a strike if th british slave owners didn't respond with violence!
@mildlyinfuriatedbird2557It's kinda weird how these "peaceful" "civilized" people are always the first to fire on people that are are on strike.
Great Emperor Tigerstar, I love your mapping videos!
I would love to know the reason behind the name of this conflict
Samuel Sharpe was a preacher at the Baptist church and his religious beliefs were some of the inciting factors of the initial strike.
