Oh my! Your comment “I’ve no worries about eradicating something that looks like a struggle” was so helpful - YES! That’s how I need to look at my paintings: where do I see struggle? So key! Thank you again for these lovely videos!
Hello Gaynor, wow another busy and inspiring week. I love that your sense of play doesn’t diminish whatever the subject. I too thought you were literally going to paint your sink in the house. I would never have thought of such a thing for a subject. You manage to make everything intriguing, however mundane. Hope you have a lovely week💐
You are a joy to see and hear. How can you look so terrific at all times? Here it is -12 C in the sunshine and I am bundled like a disturbed sasquatch. However, the painting must go on! Thanks, as always.
I would love to paint abstracts but I think I agree that I want it to represent or be similar to a real object. I love your paintings so much because you paint real things in an abstract way. Goals! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Jodi, I keep telling myself 'practise, practise, practise' !!!! Then I remember painting is always better when I don't try too hard. It's a tricky thing but we love it X
This was a very exciting episode. I found much to delight and inspire me...I particularly loved the very last one and the one with the large white shapes even more in the frame. Bravo....you are so daring. 👏👏🌹🌹
A fantastic boost of joy amidst the ongoing chaos in the world. Thank you for being and sharing you! I echo all the fantastic comments which precede mine. You continue to be a source of inspiration in your approach to art and life. ♥♥ ♥
I absolutely adore your work because it IS semi abstract. That is also my bag. Total abstraction just does not do it for me. So yay us! As usual, so amazing and inspiring and joyful to watch you work. Thank you for all you do for us!! You are such a good company!❤❤❤❤❤
Lovely again, Gaynor 😊! I float between abstract and semi abstract myself and initially I felt I had to be “one or the other” kind of artist. Now I’m learning to just explore all aspects that interest me and your videos help me to see the possibilities ❤. Thank you!
I enjoy painting abstract and you are right: people think it’s easy and it is not! So kudos! You have a contemplative process that inspires me! I too find people want to see something recognizable in art. I however am so moved by certain abstract paintings that are color and composition focused with nothing resembling the real world! There are so many inspiring abstract artists, at this moment, Doreen McNeill comes to mind! You know, color combinations that make you lighter and catch your breath, your heart flutters! I hope everyone feels this when looking at wonderful abstract art!! Thank you so for your wonderful art and videos of your incredible, inspiring life!
WOW....I have just sat and watched a wonderful interview given by Doreen McNeil; beautiful work and very inspiring. Thank you so much for taking time to share XX
Your sink painting is fabulous! Love the shade of green you added. It’s the jewelry on this piece so far…and then it got a vase(?). Clever, and creative! Love your videos-keep them coming❤
I am learning so much as I watch you work. It’s encouraging to see how you don’t treat any work that you’ve already done as too precious to try out another idea on. It helps to keep me going instead of giving up. Thank you!
Another week chock-full of ideas and inspiration - Thankyou for sharing your process Gaynor! ❤ I’d be a happy bunny if I had just a smidge of your energy and enthusiasm! 😊
You have quickly become my favorite TH-cam artist. I've recently recommended you to some artists and my niece, a teacher, to introduce your channel to her class. You're so great to follow. I love your explorations in painting. So fun and great processes to advance art ideas bathroom charcoal lol. Go Gaynor!!!
Thank you for another great video. I looked up the videos with Mathew Colling enjoyed all that information on the history of abstract art. Thank you. Also loved the reminder of paint what you see and I too like some realism in abstract art. Look forward to next Thursday. Suzi, from🇨🇦 🙋🏼♀️hello 🌻

So look forward to your videos - you are absolutely correct - abstract painting is challenging! Thank goodness for white gesso as I start again over and over! Thank you for your infectious joy in the process that is so motivating
Abstract paintings are beyond me! I much prefer your semi abstract works and can only hope that I can get there someday. I worked on three paintings today and even used my fingers to apply the paint. You can see you are growing on me! I really need to buy a plant‼️
Hi Gaynor, I can't tell you how much I look forward to Thursday mornings. You and your videos are such a joy and so motivating, and I love to see what amazing work you have created since last week. Huge thanks to you as I am now the proud owner of a sketchbook with a painted cover, it is full of work having completed my 30 day challenge. I didn't realise how much I would learn about my own process by doing that or how much I would enjoy it. I carry it about like a little Linus blanket. I think I am in the semi abstract group, thanks again for being such an inspiration. Have a good week, Wendy from Norfolk, (tried to pop in laughing emoji but my poor old lap top wasn't having any of that).
You are so funny Gaynor, you always inspire me, and I love your excitement, a sink what the? It actually looks great, who would think of painting the sink but Gaynor. Love you heaps.
How exciting. I’ve had one abstract painting (I’ve done) over my sofa for years. It always feels so right but I do like a seasonal change. You have inspired a gigantic urge to take some action. Thank you so much. I enjoy your videos so much as your other followers have mentioned you have a lovely personality. Thanks again!
While waiting for the doctor this morning I took the time waiting to sketch the sink in the room. I remembered your words of sketching what I saw not what I know. WOW was that helpful. The sketch is good. I must admit your paperwork gives off good abstract vibes. I think now I’ll go have a try at some painting. Wishing you a lovely week.
BOOM! And off she goes at full speed and I love it. So much energy and all so soon it’s over. I’m loving working on several pieces at once it is so freeing. If I could make one suggestion, and that is to show us you painting in real time for a few minutes and not sped up. It would be great to see your application and it would stretch the video out for us Gaynor fans. Another fab vlog your ideas are so amazing. 👍
Hi Guys XXX I worry that it will be boring ! I have also been worrying about you and the barge in all the Babette rain ?! Hope all is well and thank you for your lovely, lovely comment 🥰
When you said paint your sink I literally thought you was going to paint YOUR SINK!!!! and not a picture of it! 😂 With regards to the new painting in the fancy white frame, I thought the 'C' shapes looked like chain links linked together. I now want to paint chain links! Thank you for your ongoing positivity Gaynor and for showing the art that doesn't always go as planned and what you do to resolve it. Have a great week and thanks for the TV recommendation too. x
I also thought Gaynor was going to paint her sink. When I was telling my husband about this and how clever this was, he suggested I paint (not literally) the washing machine. When I REALLY looked at it there were loads of nice shapes to use as a starter. BTW Tammy Anderson, flow painter, actually did paint her toilet seat cover
Hi Gaynor Thank you for another inspirational video. You have encouraged me to play. I love your work. I did a great abstract short course a few years back and spent the time pouring inks . I later cut the piece into strips and made a weave. I recently realised that each little square was an abstract painting waiting to happen. With your lovely paperwork I would love to see you try this.
Hi Gaynor, it’s Jess from Dorset here. I completely resonate with your to and fro with abstract art, I too find that I like switching between abstract and something more representational. I definitely find abstract the most challenging but equally the most compelling! When painting abstract, I find that if I stick with a colour palette I am comfortable with (blues for me at the moment) then it is easier to experiment with composition etc as I’m not put off by colours I don’t like! When I’m more practised with these other elements I then experiment a bit more with colours. Thanks so much for all the videos you produce, I so enjoy watching your art journey, very inspiring. Jess
Hello Jess, A good idea to go with a known palette, and recently on a scroll through instagram, I loved a tonal piece of abstract work in blue ! I know exactly what type of abstract resonates with me but its yet to show itself on my canvas 😂 I will keep going 🥰
I too am beginning the abstract process. I have always been an impressionist watercolor artist and very recently dabbling and selling a bit more mixed media, acrylic, collage etc. love love all the stunning materials available now and seem to not be able to GET ENOUGH playing in them all! Love your sink, am inspired to spend more time in the bathroom!!😂
@@denisevance1045 Hi Denise, probably an equal mix ! The wood panels are fantastic if you want to be heavy handed, sand back etc., more care is needed for canvas and canvas board !
I totally agree with you about the difficulty to produce abstract art. We are confronted with so many possibilities to create an abstract picture that it can be overwhelming. My way out of this dilemma is - at the moment - to paint on a very large paper and then with a passe-partout detect the interesting sections of the image. I remember that you already have used this process. The wellknown German painter Gerhard Richter applied this procedure in his watercolor paintings.
Hello Karin, I love Gerhard Richter and all of his painting styles.....I will remember to use a passe-partout more often. It is so good to hear what you are doing, thank you for watching and commenting 🥰
I said wow out loud when I saw your abstract in your room ....wonderful ...inspiring as ever Gaynor. I'm trying abstract and as you say it's very tricky ! ❤
Always delightful to watch you create. Love the backwards C shapes in your abstract, the painting is wonderful. And your sink is great, so fun seeing your process starting with the charcoal sketch. Thanks Gaynor, this was so fun!
Morning Lovely Gaynor 🌸 Oh Gosh! Here I go again 😄 Well…. I absolutely Loved ❤️ what you did with your initial white bold shapes…..thought it was GENIUS and completely PERFECT as it was…just AMAZING! Loved all the shapes ESPECIALLY the one you got rid of 😱 and the background was fantastic as it was 😱 Love Love Love. Then you changed it and I felt it lost some of the Gaynor Amazing magic. 😭 I know you love to continue to work on your Art piece because you enjoy it so much. It really doesn’t seem to take you long to come up with a fantastic piece of Art, maybe think about when to stop before you get carried away so we don’t miss all these Amazing works! 🙏 😊 Loved your sink idea!! Never in a million years would I have thought of painting my sink on its own 😄 Just love the way your brain works! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Lovely Teresa, you make me smile...and I feel like a naughty child ! You are sitting on my shoulder saying....STOP !!!! Last week, I broke all my own rules, I tried too hard to complete something for the video. I love your honesty and I will try to have more faith in the early stages 🥰
I think I'm definitely a semi-abstract artist as well - I just struggle too much with thinking of a composition out of my head! Lovely cheery video - thank you!
I love your original ideas. I agree with you on semi-abstract. You constantly bring joy to my life and ideas to my painting. So glad I found your youtube!!
Loving watching a fellow artist. I do abstracts and maybe on your one with the half circles, perhaps make them significantly different sizes? When I do abstracts and I make my shapes all about the same size I struggle, but when I make them different sizes, one smaller one significantly bigger I like it better. Another thing I add in mine is very thin line work with a very thin brush with black instead of the ink that makes straight lines maybe use a thin brush so you can make more whimsical lines or unrecognizable writing? Do you like numbers in that one painting maybe do some spray paint numbering through a stencil I do mine backwards. Anyway, just throwing out some ideas as I’m watching you and thinking I’d love to be in your studio with you collaborating back-and-forth because it would be fun, but I’m in the US so I just have to watch from a far
Lovely ideas, THANK YOU Cheryl. When I look at abstracts, it takes no time to identify the ones that really connect. I won't give up on painting abstract....just keep practising 🥰
Another gem from Gaynor, love everything you do, particularly like your smaller abstract in the frame and your free spirited use of paint and ink, you are inspirational. X (I have been having a lot of problems with you tube, unsubscribing me etc from my favourites, I cannot miss an episode of Gaynor)
Love your videos. I wondered if you would one day make a Q&A video answering viewers questions. I have 2; Who are your favourite artist TH-camrs who you like to watch and what are some of your go to lunches (I love how you announce that its lunch time, and then I get curious about what you might by having). 😊😊
@@gaynorpattle That would be amazing. Isnt technology incredible? Connecting a follower from New Zealand all the way round the world to you. Best wishes
Another fabulous video Gaynor, thank you so much. I’m interested in abstract and other styles of art and I agree with you, abstract is the hardest to achieve. I’m no expert but my personal observation after my first few attempts and watching other artists, was where to start? I know a lot of abstract artists lay under paintings to get rid of the blank space. At the mo I’m watching a few abstract artists to learn more about it. You probably have your favs but I enjoy Painted Paper studio with Jackie Bernardi (she is a gel plate printer and abstract collage artist), Jeannine Close and Shawn Petite, all here on TH-cam. I wonder, do we use a different part of our brain with abstract? When we paint, sketch, draw scenes or objects etc we have a subject but what is the subject of abstract? Is there one? Is it more emotive? I shall watch the Matthew Collins doc, thank you for the recommendation. Whatever it is, the creative journey is so exciting and fun and as ever, you bring that and more to your work and inspirational and wonderful videos. Have a magical week 🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻
Hello Andrea, Thank you so much for watching and supporting with such a kind comment and I will certainly take a look at your suggested artists. My instincts tell me to be patient, to keep practising abstract painting and it might come !!! 🥰
Gaynor, sitting here with a medicinal glass of red whilst the food cooks. I’ve been struggling with abstract for along time - it is the hardest thing! So much easier to make a sketch or painting that looks like the subject in front of you .The little brain is always fighting to make it look like something or it can look an overcrowded mess. How do you find so much inspiration? I had a minor breakthrough this morning by scribbling over the painting , so it calmed things down and gave more focus . I have written my thoughts down in my sketch book. Thanks for that push! Carys
Hello Carys, abstract paintings call to me, a particular type that other artists conjure up to delight my senses but completely eludes me when I take paint to my own canvas ! I think that if I practise and maybe try less hard, one day something will come ! Don't you just LOVE a breakthrough moment. Have a wonderful week XXX
Hi Gaynor I love your channel your energy, your good humor, and your talent. I am a. recently started abstract and collage artist. I have a slow healing broken foot so.i needed to do something . Sending a big hug to you Lorraine all the way away in Georgia ! Thank you for your lovely message. I am one week post surgery now and doing well, taking one day at a time XXX
I tried Abstract art during the lockdowns but, perhaps like you, I cannot be convinced about it - yes, the palette works, yes, there are contrasts, yes, it's balanced but I need to relate in a more direct way. Still try from time to time and I find it loosens me up for my more figurative work - so that is good enough for me
Hello Angie, thank you for watching and commenting. It is frustrating because I am drawn to a particular style of abstract art but it eludes me 😂 Have a great week X
I find non objective abstracts the hardest to paint. For me what helps to do thumb nails of options and to write phrases or words of things I want to explore in my painting. That gives me something to refer back to when I get stuck in the middle stage.
Hello Jane, This is a lovely idea, thank you.....you have hit the nail on the head.....I get lost !!!! Phrases and words can act as my prompts 🥰 Can I quote you with this ?
I love your boats. Once you devided a sheet of paper and drew water landscape with boats. I can’t find this video could you tell me which one it was! I would love to try and paint a boat. Thanks you all your info and enthusiasm about painting. Your the best, makes me happy ❤️
I couldn't figure out why you were going to paint your sink. 😂😂😂 Enjoyed your process! I have never tried abstract because I don't "get it." Didn't realize it was so hard to do.
Hello Susan, a particular style of Abstract really gets my attention and I wish I could paint my own version.....I will be patient and one day it might come ! Meantime, I am enjoying my sink 😊Have a wonderful week 🥰
So lush watching both the abstract and the sink paintings coming together. "I'm a semi-abstract person" 😆 I also loved seeing the slice of landscape in the bottom of the abstract piece. Also love that your earrings matched the painting. Intentional? 😸
I cheated and watched this as soon as I got the notification instead of waiting for “band practice” tonight. This was such an exciting video, the idea of prompts - fabulous. Also the limited palette was suggested yesterday by another you tuber so I’m going to do the housework tonight and paint right away. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm. Have a great day. Ps. It’s a lovely sunny day in Durban today.
@@gaynorpattle watched Matthew Collings tonight. Discovered I like Kandinsky but not Helma af Klimt. When I thought about why, it came down to 2 things, strength of colour and looser style.
@@gaynorpattle the reason I watch your channel so avidly is that I like your combination of realism and abstract. Purely abstract leaves me puzzled. So with Kadinsky it’s the shapes and colour rather than the message that speaks to me.
bless you, Sweetie! completely nonrepresentational abstract work is hard! your customary work is adorably semi-abstract because you put plenty of Gaynor in it. i paint nonrep abstract for fun as hobby. i think i would set my hair on fire if i had to make salable work that way!! meanwhile the elements and principles of design are the most fun box of toys anybody ever had!! : D
I am a semi-abstract person too. I do better making abstracts in my art journal/sketchbook. As soon as I've got a canvas in front of me I want it to have something recognizable on it.
I've decided that one of the reasons I enjoy you so much is the gift you have for turning the ordinary into extraordinary. Case in point: cheese plants, snake plants, allium, crows, A BATHROOM SINK for goodness sake! So while it was good fun watching you wrestle with your abstract, it's okay by me if you want to throw in an aubergine or two onto that canvas. 🍆🍆

Morning Gaynor.Another wonderful video of lots of different ideas.keep going ,you are so inspiring!
Hello Janet and thank you for such kind encouragement....it means a lot 🥰
I love watching your painting process. You are a fearless painter! I am sure it takes many years to become fearless but I love your process.
Hello Barbara, thank you for watching and such a lovely comment 🥰
I said wow out loud when I saw your abstract in your room ....wonderful ...inspiring as ever Gaynor. I'm trying abstract and as you say it's very tricky ! ❤
So So Kind Angie, thank you for a wonderful message - I think they take time to brew. I am itching to start again !!! Have a great week 🥰
Always delightful to watch you create. Love the backwards C shapes in your abstract, the painting is wonderful. And your sink is great, so fun seeing your process starting with the charcoal sketch. Thanks Gaynor, this was so fun!
Hi Kathy, glad you like it. I loved your recent photo on insta...more please 🥰
Morning Lovely Gaynor 🌸
Oh Gosh!
Loved your sink idea!!
Hello Helen, Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. Have a great Semi week 🥰
I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Have you watched Louise Fletcher Art. She's a great inspiration and teacher. 🌝
I LOVE Louise Fletcher and her beautiful abstract paintings - she makes it look SO easy !
Love your experiments and enthusiasm to try everything 🎉
Hello Lesley, Thank you for watching and a very kind comment 🥰
I love your original ideas. I agree with you on semi-abstract. You constantly bring joy to my life and ideas to my painting. So glad I found your youtube!!
Hello Donnice, thank you so much for watching and leaving a wonderful comment - I am very grateful XX
(I have been having a lot of problems with you tube, unsubscribing me etc from my favourites, I cannot miss an episode of Gaynor)
Hello Lovely Anita X Don't unsubscribe....I need all your support and kindness 🥰
I seem to have sorted the problem, will definitely be watching every week😍

Love your videos. I wondered if you would one day make a Q&A video answering viewers questions. I have 2; Who are your favourite artist TH-camrs who you like to watch and what are some of your go to lunches (I love how you announce that its lunch time, and then I get curious about what you might by having). 😊😊
Hi Andrea, can I mention you in a video and answer some questions ? A lovely idea, thank you X I
@@gaynorpattle That would be amazing.
Hi Gaynor
I love your channel your energy, your good humor, and your talent. I am a. recently started abstract and collage artist. I have a slow healing broken foot so.i needed to do something . I never painted before but you I sped me to try. I am more of an abstract.painter. I saw your

Sure!
Made my day to see this video pop up!
Thank you X
I love your boats. Once you devided a sheet of paper and drew water landscape with boats. I can’t find this video could you tell me which one it was! I would love to try and paint a boat. Thanks you all your info and enthusiasm about painting. Your the best, makes me happy ❤️
Such a lovely message, heartfelt thanks Suzanne. I will come back to you on the boats video...if I can find it !!!! X
@@gaynorpattle Thank You! Have a great day ❤️ See you on u-tube Your so enjoyable to watch 🍒
Thank you, I am going to try an abstract this week, I love watching your video's and showing us your thoughts and ideas. Have a great week.
Music to my ears 🎉let me know how you get on, have a great week too 🥰
I couldn’t make an abstract to save myself!😂 I try all the time but I see something in it and then have to make it that…I do try tho!😂
Hi Cindy, this is funny, I see things in things all the time 😂🥰
So lush watching both the abstract and the sink paintings coming together. "I'm a semi-abstract person" 😆 I also loved seeing the slice of landscape in the bottom of the abstract piece. Also love that your earrings matched the painting. Intentional? 😸
Hello Best Girl ❤❤❤ glad you enjoyed the video....I hadn't thought about matching my earrings to a painting 😂BUT it could be done XXXX
Always so lovely to hear from you X Enjoy the sun, Enjoy your painting and skip the housework 😂 XXX
@@gaynorpattle ❤️
@@gaynorpattle watched Matthew Collings tonight. Discovered I like Kandinsky but not Helma af Klimt. When I thought about why, it came down to 2 things, strength of colour and looser style.
@@guitardee1 Isn't it interesting ! OMG Dee, a video called THE WHY ? X
@@gaynorpattle the reason I watch your channel so avidly is that I like your combination of realism and abstract. Purely abstract leaves me puzzled. So with Kadinsky it’s the shapes and colour rather than the message that speaks to me.
❤
bless you, Sweetie! completely nonrepresentational abstract work is hard! your customary work is adorably semi-abstract because you put plenty of Gaynor in it. i paint nonrep abstract for fun as hobby. i think i would set my hair on fire if i had to make salable work that way!! meanwhile the elements and principles of design are the most fun box of toys anybody ever had!! : D
Hi Judith, you are so right, I have lots of fun with the semis, those abstracts just don't want to play - I'm trying too hard, I know.....one day! XXX
The sink………interesting,Im liking
It is very calming !!! X
I am a semi-abstract person too. I do better making abstracts in my art journal/sketchbook. As soon as I've got a canvas in front of me I want it to have something recognizable on it.
Abstract is a Challenge !!
Wow, thank you! Sometimes I'd like to throw an aubergine at the abstract canvas !! Heartfelt thanks X
