  • A walk around one of less than 30 UK right hand drive Porsche 993 Turbo S cars sold in the UK. This particular car was being sold by UK specialist Porsche garage 911virgin. Built at a time when the engineers had total control and the styling team were on fire the 993 Turbo S is one of the most desirable road going cars to leave the Porsche factory.
At the time of making the video the car was on sale for £360,000.

Thanks, as time permits. I find the editing a bit easier now, its just getting everyone together to do the filming. To be fair this was a quick one shot in one take and without and driving shots.

Great summary. The 964 was just too heavy after the 3.2's, the sudden design change and just after 87 crash, sales were slow. Equal low numbers, now even lower thanks to resto's. I still owned a C2 manual for 13years, and sold to early!
Then the 993 just felt better in many ways, especially the varioram. As for the turbo, awesome. This being an 'S' it's even better! I owned a turbo for 10years and loved ever second. Agree the turbo loves to be revved above 4k, it is a missile. Thx for sharing 911virgin/Henry.
Also for info, Porsche themselves rated the turbo, Top 5, 911 of all time.

Glad you enjoyed. Quite a fan of the 964 personally particularly the (Rest of the world) RS model. That said the 993 is undoubtedly a visually more attractive car and very well received.

The perfect 911 - nothing balanced the 911 DNA with modernity quite like the 993…..

This is my perfect spec for a 911 - such a good looking motor. Were the speedline splits an option on these cars?

As far as I know the chrome finish alloys were fitted to all the cars but as with anything from the exclusive department if you throw enough money at it most things are possible. Wheels are a simple fit.

Great to see a new video - shame you didn’t do a drive in it but given their value - I understand why. I’d be interested to know the asking price. Also, what happened to the 964 RS resto?

Lack of driving was just down to crappy roads this time of year and the fact it takes 3 people a couple of hours to get rolling footage. We have driven the car quite a lot in preparation for the sale as it had been in storage.

Even though I know everything you said, I enjoyed your video, it is always nice to hear people talk about these cars with knowledge. Why is it in the UK they pronounce Porsche “incorrectly” and get away with it?

    • @henryf9175

Thanks for the kind words. Re: pronunciation probably for the same reasons everyone gets away with Hyundai, BMW, Citroen, Peugeot, Skoda, Dacia and so on. I can't speak German so I'm not going to pretend I can by pronouncing the one word I do know as a native speaker. I personally feel its a bit pretentious but each to their own.

Fascinating background details, Henry. It was a travesty how they went from such a pretty car with basically no mechanical problems to the ugly 996 with its IMS bearing and bore scoring problems. It was probably an accountant complaining about 'over-engineered' parts who suggested some ways to save a few Deutsch Marks.
You didn't mention the price, but I looked on your site and saw £360k. The most expensive car you have sold? Interesting to see that you also have a 996 Turbo S for £59,995. That's a big price differential and says a lot about the love people have for 993s.

...and that would be the same accountant who happily prevented Porsche from going bust :-)

    • @911virgin8

I don't think Porsche were alone in their move away from over engineering. Ultimately they need to make money and how long does a car need to last? As Porsche owners you and I think quite a few years but other manufacturers don't worry. Do you think Tesla are engineering for a 25 - 30 year lifespan? Even someone like McLaren are only looking as far as the 3 year factory warranty.
We have been involved in a few high ticket sales over the years but it's certainly the most expensive car on the site today. In terms of comparison to other models you do have to keep in mind how rare this car is. The 996 was made in much larger numbers. Still a great car particularly in turbo S guise.

Beauty ,rarely seen or heard unicorn 🦄 993, would off been nice if you could at least fire it up on cold start.

I struggle to capture the audio with engine noise. I didn't drive it due to crappy roads and lack of time, it takes a few hours and 3 people to get rolling footage.
