    • @thundermistlures

      do a google search for Guide to eating Ontario Fish - you will be able to search any body of water and it will tell you which fish are safe to eat :)

    I used tiny piece of rubber worm (sold as trout worm in stores) on the hook and I put an orange troutbait on the line about 1 inch above the hook.It's one of those trout baits that feels more like rubber balls. Above those, I had a tiny swivel and then a small sliding weight above. Think of a Carolina rig in very small version.
    What it did is it floated the worm just a few inches above the bottom and I retrievered it very slowly. Very slowly, like 1 retrieve can take 10 minutes. On good days, there was a hit at almost every cast. It only works early spring, because once the bluegills become active, forget it!

    Great catch sir, I never fished beads for trout but I certainly will give it a try. Would they work for stocked trout at lakes?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they will, but you will need to have it moving - that is why using beads in the river is so effective, as it is moving along with the current and the trout attack it as it passes by :)

    Love your channel! Thank you for all the tips! Wondering if you could let me know of an intersection or somewhere easy to park to have an easier time accessing the Niagara river to some good fishable water!! I live 2-3 goes away so hoping to fish the Niagara river for the first time with more fishing and less hunting for access points lol

    Hi Thanks for the great video. Would this set up work in a lake for trout?

  • @nilin7823
    @nilin7823 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Ivo, hope you are enjoying more and more as spring comes. Well, I'm in Omaha, NE, and government has just released a lot of rainbow trout in a few lakes. I went to one of the lakes, but got nothing regardless of high density of fish. What's the right bait? And should I use small hook? Those fish are around 10 inch.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ni - you can use small spinners (like the size 1 Stingeye Spinner) or small spoons - or - you can use live minnows or even corn will work....salmon eggs tied in a sack (roe bags) are also effective. Good luck

    Try using a lighter line down to your weight (ex 10# to hook 6# to sinker). That way if your weight gets snagged in a rock (which is usually what gets snagged with this type of rig) it breaks off before anything else, leaving you free to fight the fish.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...yes you can....there is a stronger current there and it varies from time to time, but you can certainly work a spoon or a spinner, especially before 8 a.mm when the current is slack :)

      Hi Mark - welcome to Niagara...if you don't mind the hike, the Whirlpool is a great spot, otherwise, you can go to the Queenston boat ramp shoreline (end of Dumfries st) - sorry we do not have a storefront...only online :) Good luck out there

      @markmaser4658 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ivo totally don't mind the hike where would I park the car to start the trek to the Whilpool? I can use google maps to help myself the rest of the way. Thanks for your help.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can park on the Niagara Parkway - small parking area near Whirlpool road intersection (parking lot is on the parkway, between whirlpool road and the Whirlpool golf course (you will see on google maps). The hike down is very scenic - you can see the hike & the whirlpool area in this episode :) th-cam.com/video/_J8PqTfvTHo/w-d-xo.html
