100% agree with Scott; market was just not as hot for Kane as he hoped. If he goes the distance and achieves the goals for the bonus it will be a major win for Wings and for him.
1 year extension can also give them time to work out these other contracts & revisit a possible longer term deal in the future
Andrew Copp and Berggren for Jacob and Kakko and 2nd round pick or 3 rd pick to save NYR close to five million in cap while we get rid of the 3rd year of Copp. Then use use pick to dump Husso or holl or Petry to a third team.

Why Kane is staying doesn't matter one bit to me. He enjoyed his time here and decided to stick around. If he stay's healthy, I think he'lls be productive.

Kane does not score on the power play anymore or try to, he is content to point guard. so he racks up power play assists. but 5v5 he is a goal scorer. but w Compher as his center goals were hard to come by, and with neither Cat nor Larkin on his line he had literally 1 goal all year. this team has a top 6 lineup issue unless they get one more top 6 forward. Kane w Larkin and Cat is a deadly player and by every measure that was by far the team's best line last year. but Lalonde refused to stick w it.
If NY retains on trouba and we get him for 5.5 million, AND we can send NY Holls entire contract, that’s only a 2 million difference in salary cap. So, 32 million in cap space minus 2 million for trouba = 30, minus 4 for Kane = 26 million. Call it 16 million for Raymond and Seider = 8 million in cap space. Maybe 1 million for veleno = 7 million. Now you have 7 million to sign stamkos and maybe trade husso for another goalie with a higher cap hit

I'd way rather we trade for zegras who is making 5.75 mil for the next 2 seasons than signing stamkos who will want close to 8. I can't see a world were the rangers retain 30% and take back Justin holl.
That would have been the trade but Trouba nixed it. The buyout window is closed, so they won't take Holl back as the plan was to buy him out.
The only thing with that though is how does New York benefit from that?.. like how do they make sense for New York or how does it entice New York to want to pull the trigger from the Holl perspective?

they badly need a few things, but w kane in the fold the key thing they need pronto is another legit top 6 forward, preferably one who can center. the 1 center 3 wingers situation last year was miserable w the lineups and did not work for anyone or please anyone. they need at least one more guy.
Trouba will take someone's head off for hurting Larkin. We currently don't have anyone like that.
@@JohnEby3 absolutely - except it does not have to be for that - but the red wings are very very soft - Larkin and Raymond just get dummied by tougher teams and no teammates back them up . If you think that does not matter in hockey - then you have obviously never played it at any significant level . It matters a lot
Chairot played pretty well last season. Don't know why you're hating on him. His first season wasn't good. But you guys like to forget how good he was this year.
Kane was a surprise for me. Especially. 1 year 4 mil cap. Pretty nifty to add that 2.5 in bonuses to keep Kane but not add to the salary cap to close a deal. If Detroit gets Trouba and stamkos I will be shocked again. Defensively it doesn’t seem like a huge improvement from last year. And havnt heard much about another goaltender. Except maybe Gibson. But bringing back Kane and shooting for stamkos is a huge step for offense
Kane works well on the power play and he's a game decider on shoot out over time games that will pay for his bonus salary alone.
Too bad the wings didn’t get Kostin thrown in with Walman trade. A lower priced enforcer option that was the answer until space for Kane was needed.

Been told for his recovery and he wants to stay in OG Six that’s basically was not worried about him going back to. New York , feel there very few teams he woulda left for to be Honest , but it’s a huge win for us hope he gets the A this year to be honest

that is a team thing - and Seider has taken on so much so fast - he could not throw big hits and get caught out of position . Remember - he plays the hardest minutes of anyone in the NHL the past 2 years . That is a lot of pressure for a young kid . Having someone like Trouba will be a huge improvement for Seider. Never underestimate the significance of that force. I guarantee you when Trouba is playing everyone on the other team knows where he is - you cut into the middle with your head down with him and you are probably going to the hospital - don't think for one second guys don't know that . I read an interview with Nikita Zadarov last week - about the hit that he threw to Raymond last year - it was vicious - he got kicked out of the game - and he went right off - he didn't argue he knew what he did and he knew he was going to be suspended - he also figured he was going to have to fight his way off the ice for what he did - but no one on the red wings even said anything - I was so glad to hear him say that because that is what I was thinking at the time my god this team is soft - the day Jacob Trouba puts on a red wing jersey that ends . And do not believe the BS that he is all done - he is 30 - he had a broken bone in his ankle and played during the playoffs - so he looked very immobile - go break a bone in your ankle and let me know how it effects your mobility . It would be the best thing that has happened to red wings in a long time .

There better be a lot of movement before preseason. Getting rid of our top 2 D man and only replacing with forwards means D is NOT a worry for him. Expect more trash.

Something must have happened with Walman around New year. From October to the end of December he had 17 pts in 34 gp, then all of a sudden he had 4 pts in his next 29. The player he was in the latter half of the season is easily replaceable imo
Only that he was no longer a top 2 D and he was never a top 2 D caliber in a team that aims to perform post-season. I guarantee our D group will be better this season than it was.

Yzermans plan of selling walman with a pick shows his lack of interest/investment in Seider. Seider will crush the league and Yzerman's lack of interest to pay a good player will lose the good ones.

Trouba means nothing. Get rid of Holl and Petry and maybe our D can get better. If either of those 2 are on the team, they won't be worth watching.
