I started watching Quill18 when he started the Deity Twins series with Marbozir ages back, so this brings me back. It's nice to play some CivV once in a while

Oh fantastic, Civ V is how I started watching Quill - and what got me into Civ and the whole 4X genre even! So, thanks to Quill and Civ for helping me discover both respectively
It was 4 for me, but 5 is also a great game to start with (especially after patches/DLCs)
I keep trying to like Civ 6, and keep wishing it were more like Civ 5. Glad to see 5 is still going strong. :)

Civ 6 gets a big patch so it's Civ 5 time? Quite a good idea considering they need some time to fix what the big one broke. :p
I thought that was a little weird too but hey, I like Civ and Quill(have actually been watching some of his old Rimworld stuff) so I'll watch this too!
I actually started working on a Civ 5 Let's Play a while ago. Had no idea this would end up coming out the same day as the Civ 6 leader pack.

Civ V is the series that got me watching Quill's stuff, and he's why I watch let's plays in general. It's been a long time and I've enjoyed quite a lot of the content over the years. I'm glad to see Civ V again!
I heard Civ 6 broke earlier today. Maybe you can go retro like I did?
Hopefully this series isn't a one-off. It'd be nice to see you periodically return to this game, it's how I found your channel way back when.
Yessss!!!! Ty for a new Civ 5 game, still my favorite game to play and watch. I hope you don't mind if I give you a few tips since it's been a while for you. 1. Don't bother with barb camps the first 30 turns or so. It's better to spend that time finding goody huts and meeting CS first for extra gold. 2. Always look to steal workers early from BOTH CS and AI, Do NOT waste hammers building them. Especially try to grab unescorted settlers (like the one England parked on your border) and I would hang out near Babylon and try to snipe their great scientist before they plant it. That would slow them down massively. Super early wars against the AI are beneficial to the player because the AI can't really do anything yet, and there are no long term diplomatic repercussions as long as you don't conquer a city. There also is no penalty for warring CS once, 3, When taking liberty policy tree, it's best to take the production boost policy first and then the free settler + 50% faster settler training. It really speeds your building and development early and again you can get workers for free elsewhere. 4. when trying to conquer enemy cities, you will need multiple ranged units plus a few melee something like 5 comp bows and 2-3 warriors should do the trick against akkad. Thanks again for CIV 5 I hope it doesn't sound like I am nit picking , I just have a lot of experience with this game.
My dad started me on Germany in civ 3. The first civ game I watched on TH-cam was Quill’s Rome play through on civ 4. I really like the civilization franchise, and quill in particular is really good at showing off the good parts of each game. Thanks man!

I've just recently hit 5000 hours put into Civ 5, but still never played Civ 6, mainly because I've never had a computer which would run it properly. I found your channel way back in the day when I was looking for Civ 4 LPs, and I've watched all of your Civ 4 and 5 series, plus Beyond Earth. It's great to see you go back to these older games.
I also love Civ 5 but won't play civ 6

@@markmorris7123 I've found that a lot of the updated grand strategy games (civ, europa universalis, Victoria, crusader kings, etc) have become "more accessible" with each new release. I don't like accessible games
Civ V was the first game I bought on Steam. I subbed to you around a year after that after watching your CK2 Castille playthrough, which also convinced me to pick up that game. Time flies.

Not the same game, but my first Q18 vid was your let’s play of Caveman to Cosmos mod for CiV 4, which just makes me feel old looking back

I put like 500hrs into civ VI,but it never really got me like V did,it's just perfect and the "1 more turn" is really at it's finest

Aaah I haven't yelled at a screen for a while but Quill made me do it. Missing all that culture from the jungle pantheon had me all sad.

Civ 5 is this awkward middle ground between Civ 4's nostalgia and Civ 6's novelty for me. But let's see if I remember it as well as I think.
Vox Populi is such a Good mod for civ 5, makes it better than civ 6 fr fr

Oh this makes me so happy. I could never get into 6, I wasn't playing strategy when 4 was a thing, and Civ5 is why I found quill too. Let's goooo.

@@JacksonOwex You know, one of the developers over at Civ VI created a mod that skins the Civ VI map to look like the Civ V map. It's on the Workshop.
The game that introduced me to Quill18! Still one of my favorite of all time! Both Civ V and Quill!
As my experience, I normally pick honor as first for Bismark(Ger), as same as montezaca (Inca), Bourdica(Ireland???) since they tend to kill as many barbarians as possible. Honor give you bonus vs bar and extra culture when you kill one

From what I know and read is 5hat Egypt didn't have slaves until the new era, however when they were at war the captured military forces were put into servitude and not all were treated poorly. Basically refugees joined egypt and the ones that didn't were either imprisoned and worked for there freedom. Kind of like a prison sentence reduction. I'm not really sure this is what I read or concluded. Plus they had a reward system for loyalty, like a job promotion system. Sounds like what the early 20th century use to be like. Still need to do research.
Quill18 - Your Babylon Civ 5 run the day it came out was my first time watching a “Let’s Play”. Just wanted to get some ideas on how to approach the new game. Benn a fan since.

Love the civ5 playthroughs, pretty sure thats what I started watching you on :D have you tried the mod vox populi>? It is quite insane and changes the game basically in everyway imaginable :D Plus, makes the AIs actually impossible to beat on the higher difficulities :D

Is there something else going on with the main menu screen or is that a component of newer versions of EUI? The menu background is usually static instead of shifting through the world wonder artworks.
This is still the best game in the series. At least for me.
Civ 5 is my personal favorite and I have way too many hours on it over the past few years, but I enjoy that civ 4-5-6 all can be fun in there own unique ways

I keep going back to civ 5. I like when I conquer new cities that I can puppet them and my builders Will automatically improve tiles and build roads. That's the tedious part of the game for me in civ 6

He DID say he WAS using a UI mod, though depending on what you mean by "background" I don't believe it should be changing it, just menus and pop up things!
@@JacksonOwexI should've been more clear sorry, just meant on the starting menu screen plus the city state leader things. I also use the same ui mod unless I haven't updated it

Yay! Tbh, I loved Civ5 way more than Civ4, just my taste, I guess. Also I've been missing Quills Civ5 LPs. Those had used to be my favorite of his content back in the day.
Civ 5 is how I discovered Quill's channel many, many years ago. I really should start playing Civ 5 again, considering I never really got into 6.
Errrrr.. I would have settled on the river... Water mill, garden, hydro plant..Though I suppose you are getting a little boost at the beginning.. Which is good for rushing a wonder

I kinda miss the more detailed/vibrant backgrounds in the leader screens. Civ 6's are fine, but I like seeing the leaders looking like part of their setting. Adds as much 'immersion' as a 4x game can have.

Man, my last game of Civ 5 before the release of 6, I was three turns of winning an Immortal game. Now I have to play on Normal because I've lost all that 5 skill. :(
Such a good game, and what got me addicted to (not real time) strategy games.
Civ V is the superior Civ. Love it!
It is too bad the music would get a strike on the video because it is impossible to not start humming it any time I think of Civ. It is just so much a part of the thousands of hours I have put into this game

i have tried to go back and play this at least 10 times in this last year
and every time i do it makes me want to go play civ 6 everytime
the civs the tech shuffler the moding the map customization its just a better in civ 6
i put 3k hours into civ 5 and i may never play it again in favour of civ 6

civ 5 has nothing going for it over civ 6 anymore
the victory conditions are cooler
the tech tree is better
districts are better
wonders actually being on the map is way cooler and actually requires you to plan a city better
not to mention you can basically settle as many cities as you want
and not be a net negative with 5 cities
civ 5 is just a worse game at this point
i mean can you genuinely name 1 thing civ 5 does better at this point?

I think the game audio is slightly too loud and your voice is slightly too quiet.
Start is looking a little cramped here I’m sure we’ll be seeing some warfare either with the other civs or the city states to get more space
Civ 6 new patch is broken, perfect opportunity to revisit civ 5

How is it a debate that Egypt had slavery? It is a historical fact that Egypt had slaves, although the Egyptian word doesn't align to the word 'slave' in a one-to-one way, and used them. It may not have been slavery in the same vein as 'modern' perception of slavery, but it did exist. It is debatable whether they used slaves to build the Great Pyramids or not, or rather what kinds of slave labor they used, but even that shouldn't be contentious...

Oh boy... this is both VERY nostalgic and equally annoying. That... ringing/dinging every time it selects a unit for you. BURNED into my brain.
Though... maybe this is just me... I much prefer the graphics of 6? Specifically the maps. Idk, the map is too detailed and a bit too... messy? I don't know how to explain it. Very nostalgic, again, but I think I do just prefer Civ 6's map a bit more.
I think it's time to fire up Civ 5 again. I like it SO much better than Civ 6.
I think Vox Populi is the definitive Civ V experience. Vanilla is just terrible.

Problem is = I don't know how to play germany hell never even tried it till now and now I am at my edge
I was screaming at my screen for you to go with jungle is culture pantheon. Going liberty culture is the most important thing to focus as you don't produce the same as you would tradition. What you went is in my opinion never worth it as it only effects your capital and it's yield is not enough. Only useful early game though if you aren't going for a religion you can say the pantheon will get overriden so I guess it's ok. I never really pick it. You do you though love the playthrough.
You'll find King difficulty very boring.
Maybe I'm too old fashioned, but I just haven't been able to warm up to Civ VI and still very much prefer V and IV. It's just something about VI that puts me off. The overly cartoony looking style, the weird UI, the fact that during my first play-throughs I always had AI neighbors that would literally fill up the entire map with units and thus block themselves and me in ... dunno. IV and V are still the superior games, IMO.
