I picked one of these up and it sounds great with my Fender Acoustasonic guitar... It's inexpensive and very useful for the features you get! BTW, thank you for showing the functionality of this unit by playing mostly chords in your demo. Seems like most videos showing a guitar product on TH-cam have people cranking on crazy leads. Not real helpful for us rhythm players when trying to judge whether it's a suitable product for our particular use. 👍
That effects pedal certain has wood. Gave this to my dad for Christmas and I’m blown away by what this did for his Taylor. It warmed a fairly bright acoustic sound and gave a tremendous amount of depth.
Just got one of these and hadn't a clue how to make it work so this video has been terrific! I was on the verge of sending it back as I couldn't even see how to change the settings so thank you very much for your clear and simple to understand demo Very, very useful Can't wait to try it out now I have a semblance of understanding of what it can do!
A jolly good instructive video. I have just purchased one of these units from Amazon for the wonderful price of £45 including postage. I had been looking at a Donner Mini pedal which included the Preamp, Chorus and Reverb effects, but every retailer seemed to be out of stock so I trawled the web and came across the oddly named Sonic Wood. For what I need, it does the business, even if the so-called instruction booklet is somewhat minimalistic. I was a bit lost with the Tap and Tail functions, but you have cleared that up for me. Many thanks. All things considered, a sturdy and inexpensive little gizmo that seems to do what it says on the tin. PS: Having read some of the previous comments there would seem to be a lot of super critical guitar players out there, and probably one or two tin-ears to boot. This unit is great value for money, and I don't hear a lot wrong with the tone of your guitar either.
I've been using a ZOOM A1 Four. A worthy multi effects stomp box. 100 presets and a plethora of settings. It's very difficult to use on stage though. With so many options it is confusing to set your sound on the fly when you are trying to concentrate on your performance. Also it limits how much you can change in mid song. This item (the sonic wood) simplifies and solves all these problems.Thank you for this video which was instrumental (pardon the pun) in steering me to this product.
You can simplify the zoom pedal if you use a midi foot controller. Im using my Zoom G1 Four with Mvave chocolate midi foot controller with 4 switches save for presets. I can also navigate to each of the 5 banks.
I saw this unit advertised on Amazon so was interested in hearing it in action. From your demo I loved the delay & would probably but it for that function alone. I was less enamoured with the reverb & chorus but I imagine that it would be possible to get a more subtle chorus effect with judicious tweaking of the controls. Most acoustic amps have a decent reverb built in anyway so I would probably not use that much. The preamp function did seem to lift the sound of the guitar. I have a passive pickup on my 12 string & would probably find that very useful to match the volume with my other guitars. It is a shame that it only has a two band EQ though as I find scooping the midrange quite helpful on a strummed acoustic. A quick question: can both outputs be used simultaneously? It might be useful to run the XLR out into the PA whilst simultaneously sending the jack output to an amp as a stage monitor?
Hi, I got one from eBay for £35 brand new on offer, was so pleased with it that ordered the "rockstage" for my electric, I don't gig I'm just a hobby guitarist and SONICAKE products are just perfect for me at home, but I'm sure would be great on a stage. Great review cheers.
@@Chinaguitarsceptic I've only had the chance to try it for a bit of recording so far. Seems decent, certainly well built. I'm going to see how it works with Live-streaming software and hopefully before too long at an actual gig.
Sounds pretty decent. I've been looking for something for a college student that leads worship in my church band. He's not a guitar player and doesn't realize an acoustic, dry into the PA doesn't sound good 🤣 This will fix that problem, on the cheap! God bless and rock on 😎👍🎸
I like the sound of the preamp. It seems to even out the tone. The guitar has a bit of mid-range honk which disappears when the preamp is engaged. There is a slight pop though when switching. Not too noticeable when playing I guess? Excellent review by the way. You answered pretty much all my questions. Only thing I'm wondering is whether the DI output needs a ground lift in some situations? Would I be better using a dedicated DI box with this effects pedal?
Dont care too much for the delay feature on this, doesnt seem like it would be too useful, but chorus and Reverb and Preamp modes definitely make it worth the price & definitely like the balanced XLR output. Does it come with an included dedicated power supply line?
Really helpful video - thanks. Like the fact that the tone is different, isn't that part of the point of messing around with pedals? Think I'll get this.
Interesting video, cheers. I was wondering if it's possible to run it with a twiggy blues as well? I've got a Crafter SA with a lipstick pickup,a fantastic guitar, could you switch between them for playing blues and acoustic. Not at the same time, but to play either. Cheers
I find that the reverb is great for slow Ballads, sometimes faster hmmmm depending on the song🤔 I just got mines from Amazon haven't tried it yet but today might be it...
Need suggestions pls. I play for Church and a friend of mine suggested I can use GE mooer 200 or zoom ac2. Should I go with any one of them or sonic ? Pls advice.
@@Chinaguitarsceptic This pedal is a no nonsense approach to getting full bodied sound with improved tonality you would do well to use it and leave time to attend to the team and ministry.
It all sounds very processed to me. The guitar also sounds harsh to my ears which doesn't help. Personally I'd get a Behringer acoustic pre amp, those things are super bang for your buck. Good, in depth vid, cheers CGS!
Nice Demo. . I do think your HARLEY guitar didn't maybe do it justice.. but for a ONE STOP BIT OF KIT . this Sonic Wood ticks the boxes as its all there... at the end of the day you get what you pay for ..and you'd certainly not get those 4 pedals for £60... keep up the good work.. thanks
Hi and thanks for the presentation, I almost purchase it when I realized that I own a Cuvave Baby rechargeable multi effects pedal that has much more possibility to get better acoustic sounds up to 8 IRs can be load it to emulate guitar sounds like the Martin, Gibson, Taylor, classic guitars and so on......so you're not stuck with just one kind og sound witch is not bad of course, but stil......I tryed and it was much more enjoyble to be able to have different sounds (live you can only choose 3 of them because has just 3 footswitch, while in studio you can have much more) pluss the Cuvave baby has Bluetooth så you could use you phone or Ipad or another bluetooth player to play a backing track so you could practice or learn a guitar chords/solo and has the possibilty to record directly in to your phone, IPad or other devices while you use your headphone and play and all of this for almost half the price of this gadget, check it out for yourself. Ciao!!!!
Except for XLR out, I don't see how this pedal is specific to acoustic guitar. There is no feedback reduction, no mid-eq's, no tuner and the most elementary of effects. Lame!

I love how this pedal seem to aid in the compression of the tonality of the guitar when the preamp is engaged.
It does naturally. I'm really pleased with it and would definitely gig it

Yes the Sonicake Boom Ave bass pedal is the only one they do that has an effects loop. Strange as it would be handy for all the pdals.
