    Lowering the amps is a good idea at campgrounds. They werent meant for the constant draw an ev puts on them. Id lower it as far as you can and try to match full state of charge to when you plan on departing. I do the same at home just to keep the load low on the circuit.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. Good tip! I've found by lowering it one notch keeps the post, cord and handle cool to the touch and I've never had it trip a circuit then and you still get decent charging speeds. No reason to overload it if you have the time and the car's just sitting there for multiple days. Appreciate the comment 😀

    Can you run the bioweapon setting while in camp mode?

    Bryan, another really enjoyable episode that’s relaxing to watch! You certainly picked the right season to escape the Sunbelt cauldron, even with the unfortunate wildfires. Are the Twins going to hold on to win the Central? Wishing you more travels and great memories!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Vlad! Yeah, the southwest is so hot this summer I wouldn't even want to be out there. Vegas is miserable right now and can't imagine camping around Nevada, Utah, Arizona right now unless you're in the mountains. Minnesota has had it's hot weeks and it has been dry, but overall it's been comfortable with temps usually in the mid 80's.
      As for the Twins... they're maddening. I guess there's worse things than a .500 team, but they lose to the good teams, beat the terrible teams. Thank God they're in the same division as the Royals 🤣

    Hey Bryan, I’m also in MN for a few months to escape the Coachella Valley heat, AND have been up to Crosslake visiting a buddy and golfing Crosswoods, within spitting distance of your campground. There are two free public J-1772 chargers nearby, but I like that ShockFlo for its portability.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice 👍🏻 Yeah, that area is beautiful! Lots of lakes to choose from and some fun golfing too. If I head back up that way soon we should get out for a round. As for the ShockFlo... I was pleasantly surprised at the versatility. Being able to mount it in your garage and get the same speeds as larger wall chargers, but being able to quickly toss it in the carrying case and take it on trips is definitely nice.

    My experience with FSD beta is it works great on highways, but not so great in cities or remote locations. If it looses data connection it freaks out.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's somewhat my take so far too, but I'd be interested to see how much it depends on map data vs Tesla Vision (cameras) and AI/Neural networks to make decisions. I suppose even that needs data connection and if it loses it for any decent amount of time, will start to freak out. I find myself being super impressed and then two minutes later laughing at how dumb it can be 🤣

      @@bryanhauer The one time it totally freaked out on me was way up in the mountains and it happened right when I lost my streaming music. The road was good so Im assuming it was because it lost connection. The steering wheel started rapidity jerking back and forth. I took over immediately and didnt reactivate it until I got back into an area with good cell coverage.

    Def going to use your referral when I get mine around Christmas. Saving up to pay cash. Can’t wait to get mine. I’m in the Chicago area. How is it in the snow. I see you’re minnesota I used to live there (minneapolis) back when they were just building the stadium in 86 when it was just a big hole in the ground. Lol anyway so I know you know what cold and snow is.

      Awesome! Thank you! It's great in the snow although the original Michelin tires they had on my Model Y LR were terrible in the snow so swapped them out for 255/40R-20 VREDESTEIN QUATRAC PRO XL's which are amazing in the snow. As for the stadium... that hole in the ground has been replaced twice now. It sure provided quite a few fun memories along with a lot of heartache. 😆 New stadium (US Bank Stadium) is beautiful!

      That's awesome, Linda! You can view links to all my filming gear on my website towards the bottom of the page: www.bryanhauer.com/gear
      Only thing different from that list is I use the iPhone 14 Pro now instead of the 13 Pro that's listed. All other gear is current. I know DJI has some newer models since I bought my action cams and drone so maybe check those out too after clicking the links.
      For editing I use Final Cut Pro on the Mac which costs $299 and is a one time charge that you can use forever even on new Macs. I always suggest trying iMovie which is free first as it comes already installed on any Mac to get your feet wet. I believe they make Final Cut Pro for the iPad now too which is a subscription, but haven't used it yet. If you're using a Windows PC/Laptop another great option is Adobe Premier which is a subscription service.
      Will have a new video out tomorrow so keep an eye out for that 😀

      RV parks don't allow car camping unfortunately. Campgrounds are fine, but RV parks are a no go. You have to have be towing a trailer to park at RV parks or have some type of van at the least. With that said... I'd love to do some beach camping 👍🏻

    Would you ever consider a tent for the back hatch? Interested in your opinions since you have great gear taste.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahh thanks 😀 I've had quite a few companies reach out to me about reviewing a rear tent, but here are the reasons I don't have much interest...
      I use a rear hitch cargo box (it does swing out) and while a tent might work with it I tend to cook on top of so prefer to not be inside for that. I also like to quickly leave to run into town to grab groceries, firewood etc, and having to take it off over and over seems like a bit of a hassle.
      I like sleeping inside the car and my only use for the tent would be to sit inside it if there were a lot of bugs, but I don't come across that too often. I spend most of my day out hiking, biking, fishing and am only back at the camp near evening to cook, sit around the fire for an hour or two and then head inside the car to watch tv/movies, work or sleep so I can't justify the extra space and weight that would take up. If you watch a few of my first videos in 2021 where I was camping in Moab or Mt Charleston you'll see I had a pop up screened in tent that was super nice, but it became a hassle to take it with, set it up and I rarely sat inside it. Obviously everyone's needs are different. If I was married and had a baby, I could see the use for one, but not so much for a solo traveler. I'll admit, they do look cool, but just an extra accessory I wouldn't get much use out of at this point.
      With all that said... camping in a small space like this has its challenges and my ultimate goal was always to tow a trailer with my EV, but Model Y has a 3500 lbs towing capacity along with towing kills 50% of range so it's not practical at this point to use a Tesla to tow on long trips. This is also the case with Rivian, Ford, GM etc... My hope is the Cybertruck changes that and has a range of over 500 miles which means even if towing a 7500 lbs trailer kills it by 50%, I'm still left with close to 250 miles of range which I can deal with.

    Bryant quick question. What made you choose the Jackery battery instead of maybe the ecoflow?

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Simply ease of use. When I got mine back in early 2021, there weren't as many options as there are now and Jackery had the Apple business model which was make it stylish and super easy to use. Now there are a lot more options. I've been using the OUPES 1800 for the last 6 months or so and it's been as good if not better at 40% less cost, solar panels fold down to half the size of Jackery, plus it uses lithium iron phosphate cells which give it way more lifecycles and actually comes in slightly lighter too. Jackery, EcoFlow, OUPES, Fanttik... all make great products so it's just finding the one that works for you, your setup and situation.
      Here's a link to OUPES and the one I use. OUPES 1800 Watt Solar Powered Generator: shrsl.com/42ang

    Hey Bryan, we just discovered your videos and have been binge watching. Sometimes it is a little difficult to follow them in order. For instance, your 30 day trip.....Some videos are numbered day __ of 30 and some are not. Could you please go back and number them? Also, I don't know if Tesla does this since I do not own one YET but I would be curious to see the money difference in the distances you are traveling between electricity and gasoline. For instance, take the fuel prices in the area of the country you are in and compare that to the electricity mileage you are getting. Thanks for your videos!!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching 🙏 If you go to my Videos page on my channel you can see all my videos in order from newest to oldest: www.youtube.com/@bryanhauer/videos
      As for my 30 day trip. They're all numbered in order with one exception... my latest video from 6 days ago where I talked about my 5 favorite camping destinations. All others are numbered and in order. If you notice a break between days like Day 6 jumping to Day 9 I explained that in a few videos, but that's when I took a break from the road in a hotel as I wasn't camping every day of the trip. Just head to the Videos page and you'll see them all in order. I know when watching on a TV that it doesn't usually play the next video in order automatically. This is something I've encountered myself when watching other TH-camrs and I haven't found a really good fix for that outside of just checking their videos page to see what video is next. I wish it played like Netflix does when you're watching a series.
      As for electricity vs gas...that's a good idea for a video and one I'll try to incorporate on an upcoming trip. I will say there are a number of online calculators that will figure this out for you, but on average it's about 3 x's more expensive to fill up with gas vs Supercharging although timing of day when charging does play a roll as mid-day is most expensive and night is cheapest. Since you might be a new owner soon one thing to remember is most people charge their cars at home daily just like their phones so the cost difference is even greater than Supercharging and more convenient. For instance during peak charging times during the day it would cost me about $6.75 to go from 0-100% at home based on $0.09/kWh (Model Y has 75 kWh battery), but at a Supercharger it would be about $30.75 based on $0.41/kWh during the day and about $16.50 at night based on $0.22/kWh and gas would be about $75 for an equivalent crossover SUV with a 20 gallon tank and around combined 20mpg at $3.65/gallon of gas. This is a little skewed though because the gas SUV gets about 375-400 miles per tank vs 325 per charge on the Model Y, but gives you a good idea.
      One other cost savings for EV's vs gas is maintenance. My only maintenance is wiper fluid, tire rotation and eventually tire change. That's it! There's about 10 x's less parts on an EV vs a ICE car and virtually no maintenance. Brakes can last longer than most people own their cars due to the use of regenerative braking. I can drive around all day and almost never use my brakes and this includes in a downtown city environment as the car slows by reversing the electric motors that propel the car which not only saves use of the brake pads, but adds energy back into the car.
      Hope that helps and thanks again for watching 😀

    Hey Bryan quick question. So after watching a lot of your videos I decided that I am going to need a mobile battery. I know you went from a Jackery to the other that I forgot the name. I went with Ecoflow because of the Black Friday deals. I got the Delta 2 with the 220w solar panel. Is this enough juice for a few days out camping to use all the items you use? Thanks

      That's plenty! You could run, Starlink, an air fryer, charge all your gear and still have plenty leftover. You can of course charge up with the solar panel during the day, but you can always plug into the 12v on your Tesla as well as the 12v is constantly being topped off by the main battery. For instance my Model Y has a 75kWh main battery, while the Ecoflow Delta 2 has just over a 1kWh battery so it won't even put a dent in your range. I usually just leave mine plugged into the 12v unless I need to take it outside. You're good to go and looks like you got a good deal too 👍🏻

    Hey Bryan - did you try the “exit passing lane” setting to make FSD move back out of the left lane? It works consistently for me.

      I believe so. Before heading home I noticed a setting about less lane changes to switched that on and it was definitely better 👍🏻

    I wonder if the FSD is being affected by the rear box. I mean it does block the back camera and without that I am not sure FSD knows for sure if something is behind you.

      It’s not and doesn’t block the camera. Never had any issue.

    What drone do you use for your videos?

      I just upgraded my drone from the DJI Mavic mini 2 to the DJI Mavin mini 4 Pro. Here's all my gear with links. Camera gear is towards the bottom: www.bryanhauer.com/gear

      Ha 😀 I take it off when I don't need it. This was a quick trip up north (less than 3 hours) so didn't have a use for the cargo box.
