what a great package, this is the trickle down we've been waiting for to bring sim racing to the masses!
I think imma sell my g29 with a 15’ wheel on it and buy this bad boy. I just got load cell pedals with the g29 and the wheel is the last thing I really need to upgrade. It’s out of stock rn but as soon as it’s in stock imma order one
yep this is what the other manufacturers didnt do, ive been waiting such a long time for this. Like over 20 years lol. This is safe for my kids to use too so I dont have to worry about them breaking joints.

Considering that the Fanatec Xbox compatible R2R bundle is $480 before shipping, and doesn't include the $30 table clamp, Moza made the best entry point to direct drive on console. If you factor in Fanatec's short comings, then the R3 bundle is a hands down winner despite the 1.1Nm advantage the CSL-DD has. Got to remember that the CSL-DD's 5Nm is being dampened by the plastic QR1L.
Yeah... Moza is eating Fanatec's lunch now.

I like that the Fanatec CSL Pedals can be upgraded to a load cell. I don't think Moza offers an upgrade path for a load cell. Other than that, I don't see any advantage to Fanatec for the extra money. If you want a metal quick release on the CSL bases you have to spend $170 for their (aluminum) QR2 to upgrade the base and 1 wheel. $100 more to upgrade each additional wheel.

Fanatec doesn’t dampen anything with the qr1 lite. Qr1 lite handles up to 8nm so it will work on csl and gt dd at 5nm and 8nm 😂
And the csl and gt dd are 1.1-4.1nm more powerful if you buy the 180 boost kit.

Great review. Have just been let down by Fanatec for their XBox bundle for Forza so I'm gonna wait for this now instead.

Great review Shaun! I always like your straight-forward approach. I've been wheel-less for a while now due to circumstances beyond my control, and while my primary setup will always be PC, I have been wanting to get a wheel that would be versatile across consoles as well. Fanatec has long been the hybrid option, but I have to be honest, I've been concerned about the quality issues around the DD series to make a commitment as of yet. Glad to see Moza enter this arena, given the generally positive response to the line this past year. Did you get a chance to try the wheel with another base on the Xbox (assuming you still have the R12 or other Moza bases with the pedals input to try it on)? I'm guessing that like Fanatec, the compatibility is in the wheel itself as well.
you says its weird to use the word 'game-changing'. But it really is, for me personally. It's a sensible buy for someone wanting to try out sim racing like myself, the fact it's a direct drive wheel at the price it is and you become a part of an ecosystem with the R3 that you can freely upgrade at your own pace, depending whether I like it or love it!
I like your intro to SIM racing using R3 wheel. What your view comparing this to the R5 bundles ? Is there a very large difference btw these 2 bundles ?

Can the SRP non lite pedals work with the base? I saw a chart with red X in a chart but can't remember where i saw. It's on the compatibility, chart on bundle page, that the loadcell, reg srp one can only direct connect to PC, not to wheel base.

It will be interesting to see if they ever seek out Sony licencing and produce a Playstation compatible version of the R3 base.
They should, It would kill Logitech and TM, force them to do something new. And Make Fanatec worry.

You review this as a starter kit but would this be a good upgrade from a Logitech 920? I have been looking at PXN V12 Lite and Fanatec CSL DD as well. All in the same price point. Trying to figure out which Direct Drive to upgrade to. Help!
Any hacks or upgrades that you can purchase to make the pedals feel better like adding a spring to the brake?

I think not, saw on another channel that the xbox code or something is inside the wheelbase not the wheel itself
@@thebinalz No, it's the wheel that gives Xbox compatibility. It seems that with the R5 it doesn't work because of the base connections but that with the others it should work...
Yes it works as long as you have a base where you can plug in the pedals. Boosted media tested it with the r5 and the r12.
Can't beat this price especially considering the Thrustmaster TX and T300RS packages are the same price or more. TM is really overpriced right now.

I’d like to know how does the force feedback compare to something like the old Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS wheel? That was the last wheel I had before I got flooded out and lost all my racing gear. If it’s stronger than that then I could be happy with it.
i have an R5 and i know this is is a little less but there is no doubt that any DD wheel will be smoother quicker and over all way more detialed than any Belt wheel i had a TSPC racer and the r5 is way better ff strength or not

In all honesty though since this question I've had an issue with another Moza product (camera gimbal) and these guys have been a ghost town when it comes to customer service. I filed a ticket and posted to their forums and haven't heard anything. This was Sept 21. There is no way I'm putting my racing future in their hands. I'm going Fanatec.

Fanatec has 5nm at 400 dollars compared to Mozas shitty 3nm for 400 dollars. They shouldve made it like 300 for a R3 base.

@@Burl_Hurlbutt Yes, there ready2race bundle, It comes with Pedals, Wheel, and Wheelbase, for 399.95. Its also a 5nm CSL DD base, If you buy any wheel or pedals with CSL DD base it would cost 200 dollars.
@@Burl_Hurlbutt it does, but it locks you into a poor ecosystem. Very bad QR and you can't use their wheels on any other base but fanatec. They are also well known for poor customer service and quality control. Moza (as well as most other DD companies) is built MUCH stronger and you can use the wheel on any other base (minus fanatec). As someone with a wheelbase from neither company, I'm taking moza 100% of the time, 1nm means literally nothing.

I'm so sad that it's out of stock. I would get an r3 bundle with a clutch pedal, and i would drift with a logitech shifter and an ebay handbrake.

Nope. Fanatec's ready-to-race bundle is the same money but comes with the added benefit of having an upgrade path full of vast amounts of options.
The $400 dollar bundle does not have the wheel compatible for Xbox. So you would have to pay an extra 80 dollars.
I'm holding out for the R1.

I have to ask with the Xbox wheel on say an R5 will the Xbox utilize the R5?
It won't, only the R3 is Xbox licensed.

for me this kills all Thrustmaster belt drive wheels for round the same money, if your new to sim racing you either just buy a low end Logitech or get this R3 why would you even look at Thrustmaster at thus point.

You'll be able to use 2 holes out of the 4 on the wheel deck or you can get the adapter from Moza to secure it with 4 screws.
