I’ve been practicing @totalgrazing for 3 years but with cows and calves. Increased herd numbers, totally eliminated winter hay feeding, but certainly quickly identified unadapted stock even though I’ve been doing MiG for 30 years. In three years, the improvement in soil and grass is astounding. Wish I’d known about this 30 years ago. But my farm is too far away from home to keep up the pace needed to be effective with my small herd (170 pairs), so changes are needed. I’ll be following your progress with total grazing stockers and finishing cattle.

    Cows look good.
I have definitely noticed an increase in grazing utilization when I can move my cows 4-5 times a day on the weekends.

Yes it's much more like herding vs grazing. Plus they eat more and are gaining weight better than ever.

Can someone please explain it simply to me? I've been binge watching Jaime Elizondo for the past 2 days and understand the why, I'm not clear on the how. Sometimes it seems like forcing animals to feed in a smaller area intensely so everything gets grazed down then moving them to do the same elsewhere. Then sometimes it's not as clear cut as that.

No question this takes more time. It's our first season with Total Grazing so we'll be evaluating the work vs reward as we go. Right now we are really happy witht he increased gain.
