  • Gujo town in Gifu prefecture of Japan is the place where technology of making these ultra-realistic food samples used to show menu in Japanese restaurants began. These samples are made out of plastic, wax and other materials, and then painted. It is also possible to try making some simple samples by yourself.

    • @LEETEUKLovesMe
      @LEETEUKLovesMe 10 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      It's science disguised as magic (my fave kind of science haha) ! Hot Liquid wax becomes solid when it cools down. The water is probably pretty warm (which is why the wax doesn't immediately cool down and harden as soon as he poured it into the water) and this enabled him to take his time shaping the wax while it's still in the water.

    • @100blueeyedboy

    In Japan outside of restaurants they have wax plates of the food they serve. You can see and get an idea of what you'd like to order and what they offer without reading a menu. I think it's a great idea and I wish places in America would do something like that.

      the first food display was made of real foods and went bad after a day
      in the 20s or 30s, a man got the idea of making it out of wax
      now, those food displays are made from some sort of plastic materials
      that's why these displays are 5x-10x the price of a dishes

      There are chefs who are capable of putting their hand in hot fry oil, they may dip in an out quickly but sure it would hurt a normal person greatly. Best I can manage is handling the food which just came out with my bare hands, can actually close my hand around it for awhile.

    i wish malaysia have educational place like this where children come and learn instate go to zoo each year. the uncle is so patient in handling kids and get them interested in it. kudos to uncle...all teacher should learn from this uncle

      Japanese people are great which Malaysia could barely match with them :") but yeah I wish Malaysia could stop bringing children to zoo for educational purposes and go for somewhere unique that would be memorable for the kids

    I see these on display all the time in japan - I actually argued with a mate that I believed they must get real food products and cover them with some sort of preservative seal because who the fuck would bother making all that super realistic fake food? Looks like I was the stupid dummy that day after all.

    Some people in the comments need to comprehend this, ITS DISPLAY FOOD!!!! ITS NOT BEING SOLD TO PEOPLE!! I've seen people claiming this is what Japan and China do, selling plastic food but no, this is for display in a restaurant that is hyper realistic so you can visually see how a meal is supposed to look. Get off Facebook for once and do some proper research rather than rely on "real vs fake food" videos produced by corporate companies simply trying to get views from "shock value".

  • @mongtkb

    the first food display was made of real foods and went bad after a day
    in the 20s or 30s, a man got the idea of making it out of wax
    now, those food displays are made from some sort of plastic materials
    that's why these displays are 5x-10x the price of a dishes
