Anyone who's played in a band can appreciate the godlike concentration Linkus showcases by executing 200+ inputs with perfect rhythm while the audience drunkenly claps along at a slightly faster tempo.
This was an amazing run! not just for execution, but also bc Linkus is so good at explaining things, and takes technical mishaps in stride. Bring this dude back next year
Yeah. I think the optimum would be to have the runner concentrate on the run and two or three people who are abour equally knowledgable on the game as commentators. The runner could focus and we would get some bantering out of it. But if the runner does the commentary, I prefer the talkative, whoopsiedoodling runner a lot over the silent nitpicker.
@@WereDictionary Linkus has the benefit of being both the best WW runner and being an amazing commentator. That's why his streams are always fun, he's attentive, active, talkative, but still runs with top-tier quality. One of the best streamers imo
There were a couple points where the game didn't seem to want to comply with being speedrun, but Linkus has an INCREDIBLE presence on-screen. He got the speedrun done and explained pretty much every single action he was taking, which automatically makes this run one of the best. BRING THIS BOI BACK IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE!
Linkus was doing more commentary than trying for perfect execution. This can cause some mistakes but makes the run WAYYYYYYYYYYY better to watch. The 100% try hard very little talking runs are not fun to watch nor make me want to go look at their other content.
Some runs by their very nature have to be done tryhard mode. The execution required to do stuff is too high to commentate over. Linkus could get away with imperfect execution. Not everyone runs a game that forgiving.
This guy is 2nd in the world at 1 hour, 1 minute, and 34 seconds, so yeah he is pretty dang amazing. Also, with him talking and being distracted, his run still makes top 10 lol. These guys are amazing, and it is nice to see people acknowledge this!
For 100% tryhard runners, I expect the couch to take over commentary duty. But if neither runner nor couch will explain, it becomes just another speedrun vid, not worthy of GDQ
GDQ requires in the submission video for a lot of explanation because they want that to happen during GDQ because they want someone who know nothing about speedrunning the game understands whats going on
I've said it before, I'll say it again: we need a controller cam So many runs have really crazy spamming requirements and I'd love to see that insane finger work People would definitely be more appreciative of the runs
I love that Link was in his Outset Island clothes the whole time. Don't be too hard on yourself Linkus, I think everyone watching could appreciate just how difficult all those tricks were, so massive respect to you for pulling them off! As someone who isn't a huge fan of Wind Waker myself, I found this incredibly fun to watch.
worldsboss for sure, I would take a run that is entertaining and we'll commentated over a faster run any day. They got the audience hyped and doing things like the Ganon laugh and the Pausa meme. It made the failed zombie hovers so exciting even.
Plus the crowd reaction when he actually did get the zombie hover was electric! That one in particular is quite an old trick that most people in that crowd were probably familiar with, so they knew how hard it was. But yeah, they did a fantastic job at hyping the run up and showed their passion for that run in particular.
Even in a crowd of speed runners, the group clap still speeds up. There has to be some sort of data on group synchronization and its tendency to increase over time.
This was easily one of the best Zelda speedruns at a GDQ event in a while. I hope they bring Linkus back for more. He did fantastic. Very informative. Didn't get bothered by the crowd or outside commentary.
That barrier skip was AMAZING. Great job Linkus! This was a fantastic run. Bit of trouble early on with the speed swimming, but I'm glad you were able to remain upbeat and keep rolling with it. You seemed nervous with how poorly the Puppet Gannon/zombie slide went, but you still did great and kept your composure. I would have been falling apart if it were me, the pressure must have been enormous. Mad respect. Gymnast was great on the couch too. :D
Listening to hundreds of people laughing along karaoke-style to the main villain on a charity stream is something I didn't know I needed in my life. Thank you GDQ
I use to like GDQ for the runs, but now I like for all the commentary and the knowledge you gain from the Runners and people on the couch. Fun stuff. 👏🏽
Nah the run was already dead in terms of a "good time" after the puppet ganon mishap, I'm incredibly impressed he managed to power through and finish the run even despite the trouble he was having and the nerves he must have had. Huge respect to Linkus for this run
Not really, the run would be already dead since the manual superswim. Then again, it's amazing to see someone speedruns with consistent explanations, even when they focus for hard tricks. im currently learning morth hover and seeing this makes me feel better. knowing that not even top runners get it consistently makes me feel like im not just bad at the game
Skyward sword got similarly eviscerated recently. They skip most of the game by loading link into the file select screen and flipping game flags constantly throughout the run. Even in a crowd of speed runners, the group clap still speeds up. There has to be some sort of data on group synchronization and its tendency to increase over time.
In pro-wrestling the crowd always counts too fast for giant swings. However in fighting games with loop combos the tournament crowd is usually in sync
There's a few frames of delay as the clap input gets sent and the sound wave gets received.
I think at an hour and 20 minutes I was still on the starting island.
