    dollar tree also has rugged pieces of rugs that you can use to cover it, they like to scratch rug and sisal, etc. you can also buy the jute and wrap it around the columns that serve as support. And if you have a video of how it held up to your cats, please share it.

    I would have made the legs in triangle shape, made slightly more room in the play areas. Wrap the legs in jute rope, hang a couple toys in the open areas, then lite catnip spray the whole thing to attract them. My cats trees cost me 80 bucks each. I have 2. This would have been so much more cost effective!

  • @wudgee
    @wudgee ปีที่แล้ว

    Foam boards cost the earth here, Europe. I don’t even have a local supplier. Nevertheless an interesting creation. My cat would want a bigger step, she won’t jump into a hole like that. How did yours get to the very top as there’s nothing much to launch from. I bought a short cat tree then we put it on top of two halves of a pallet. It raised it nicely, stabilised it and she has a natural scratching area.😊

    I am trying to figure out a tree of sorts for my cat. She had one that was cheaply made wth a triangle base and it toppled over all the time until I put a concrete block on it. I had an incident a few years back trying to keep her from eating ribbon and I hit my head on the brick and finally said enough and tossed it. My cat is a 14-15 lb cat and 19.5 in long and I need to feel secure with whatever I come up with. I have thought about putting her litter box below it then build from there but she uses an 18in high rubber made bin for her litter box, because she sprays. So it would be a huge. I am getting my apartment remodeled so I thought about making a temporary one, but I am also trying to rethink her cat box location and even how to feed her. Sometimes I wish had a way to create a room just for her without interfering with the purpose of the rooms I have now. I like the idea. I first saw it then left then I thought I could at least learn and get ideas. I am glad I cane back, because I learned a lot. Thanks.

    • @CatToyLady
      @CatToyLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a vet tech, I would suggest not putting a cat box as part of the cat tree, for many reasons this could lead to inappropriate urination issues.
      My largest baby is 17.5lbs and is the cat that uses this tree. It is still holding together really well after all this time. If you worry about it tipping, maybe try not making the 3rd level (12 inch columns), and just put the tray on the top of the second level (the house part.)
      Would love to know if you make it and how it worked for you.

      I would make something out of cardboard scratchers for them, that way they can learn to scratch and climb at the same time. I wouldn’t give them anything tall for a few months, I’ve seen a few broken kitten legs from them being clumsy and falling. I have a videos of a triangle and cube cardboard scratchers that may be good for them.

And I consider myself a genius 😂 I'm kidding ☺️. I also enjoy the way you do your videos. You talk and instruct, yet you are not too slowww... I'm looking at the artwork behind you on this video, I'm guessing you have kids. Do you do videos with other crafts in mind for the kiddos? You got the skills! It looks great, but I can’t see it lasting very long out of that foam board and glue. My younger cat makes a running leap for the top of his regular weight cat tree and almost topples it sometimes. I like the bowl with the slanted edges; it looks more comfortable than straight up edges like most cat trees have.

I needed room for the newest tower (video to come out in a week or two.) It held up very well till the end, just a little separation between the bottom two sheet, from getting kicked and stepped on by my kids.

    Plus there's a reason cat trees are made out of wood. Vet bills are expensive. If those things fall with them there's x-rays & hurt wrists & paws. My Yog twisted his wrist getting down from a foam core shelf I'd made. 200.00 bucks it cost me for x-rays and a ace bandage for straining his wrist

    The part you made to reinforce the corners at 8 minutes of your video. That's not the best idea for support. Better to cut about 20, 4" squares, split the squares corner to corner, stack the squared triangles you have 5 high with glue, now glue these thick corners in each corner of the inside of your cube, 4 in each corner on top and 4 on bottom. Now your cats will have more room inside and support. Your cube will be more rigid with this idea.

    While I see everyone else here in the comments praising this stupid shit from the mountaintops like it's the best thing ever since sliced bread I guess I'll be the only one to say that this isn't what I'd recommend anyone making for their cat. At all. If you can't afford to make one with SOLID materials or just outright buy one at a store then maybe you shouldn't own a cat. I know that may come off as "dickish" but it's true. I'm sorry but if you can't even afford to shell out more than $14 dollars for your pet on something that will be safe, sturdy, will last and bring your cat happiness and security then go buy a parakeet or something.
    Is the crap she's suggesting in the video a strong, solid, sturdy and SAFE build? Hell no, not in the least. Will it stand the test of time? No way. Does it even offer a variety of scratch posts and places for your cat to explore/hang out on/ sleep on? Nope... and good luck trying to incorporate a scratch post as she's claiming you can do and have it hold up to the force that cats apply when scratching it!
    I realize that yes, times are tough, but making one or buying one isn't that expensive. Don't be that person that puts shit for effort into the care and love of your animal. But hey, if you hate your animal then by all means go ahead and make this flimsy "DIY" garbage.
