It’s about “certain patented mechanics”. It’s kind of a dead end to attack the similarities of any given Pokémon to pal because at worst, palworld loses and they have to remove a single monster from the game, which probably doesn’t entitle nintendo to very much damages. Mechanics are central to the game so Nintendo can argue that some amount of the profit of the game belongs to them. It’s also a lot easier to defend “made up creature looks like one of the 1000 made up creatures in this franchise”
