  • The 2025 Scooter Cannonball is only a year away, so all of the riders are already making plans. I signed up for my spot a couple of weeks ago, and it looks like a new friend from Romania will be joining us!
    ‪@RideWithAlex‬ purchased his spot, so he's committed and his plans are underway. He plans to ship his scooter from Romania to my house in Katy, TX, and then we'll ride across the USA twice for the 2025 Cannonball! We will coordinate those shipping and customs/import details over the next several months. Wish him luck with his monumental challenge and all of the logistics surrounding his upcoming trip! 👏😉
    Time indexes:
    0:00 Big announcement today from RideWithAlex about his 2025 Scooter Cannonball plans!
    1:56 Shipping and import logistics for motorcycles/scooters vs cars?
    3:37 Fallback plans to ride one of my small-bore bikes
    5:17 Sustained cruising speeds and fuel range for group riding
    7:44 Possibility of running with a dedicated (private) chase & support vehicle
    9:39 No route plans yet for the trip up to Seaside, OR
    11:39 I'm a terrible tour guide, my ideas on "tourism" don't involve crowded places!

    I met Alex few days ago, when I picked up my Sym scooter. We briefly talked about Cannonball. I would make my contribution to supporting him to accomplish this dream he has. Hope other friends, fans and even SYM, would do their best to send him and Donnie to USA.

    Hey Quasi! I'm registered for 2025 and I'm pretty excited. Since you were so "successful" on your PCX I'm taking mine. However, I've learned the value of OEM parts thanks to you.

    I have been watching both your and Alexs channel for some time now and to see you do the cannonball together is a welcome surprise! Looking forward to hearing more about your plans on which bike you are taking:)

    In 1988 Goldwings got a reverse gear. Today they’re all electronic. In a decade they’ll be self-riding. 😂

      I've owned 4 Goldwings, but they were all the older GL1100 and GL1200 models before Honda added the electric reverse. I don't miss trying to back those heavy beasts out of parking spaces, especially uphill! 🤣👍 --QM

    Just thinking out loud here. The company Granger makes heavy duty belts. Should look into them to see if they make a belt. That’s the size of your scooters belt. It would be longer lasting and you won’t get stranded on the side of the highway with a shredded Belt.

    Because its a temporary trip. Importing and using a bike from Europe is fairly easy. Insurance is probably the hardest part. I see travelers with European plates in New England on occasion.

    My 2012 Honda Goldwing had a reverse. They actually showed a movie of the bike going backwards up a flight of stairs at 1 mile an hour.

    might reach out to @itchyboots as she shipped her CRF300Rally into South America, but then rode up to Alaska.

    You should reach out to SYM USA. Maybe they would sponsor you since you have a reasonable following and combining with SYM Romania publicity. They have 4 scoots here that would be good options. Only 1 with ABS I think though. At least one has combined front rear braking though. 😳😬

      That's a great idea! Maybe they'll be interested in sponsoring a couple of loaner scoots for both of us to ride across the USA?! 🤔 --QM

    Hi Quasi, I was seriously looking at coming over from Australia to do the '25 Cannonball, but couldn't make it work time wise mainly because I would want to stay over around 6-8 weeks to allow prep time before and to do a bit of touring after the event. So 2027 will be the year. I did do quite a bit of homework re either taking a scooter over vs buying one over there. It was no real drama bringing a scooter over, a Broker will do most of the hard work required at both ends. You do need to apply for an EPA temporary exemption re emissions compliance before shipping, as well as temp import permits etc. Cost wise, it is cheaper to get the help of someone you know and buy a new ADV etc in the US, use it and sell when you are done. Even if you take a bit of a bath on the sale afterwards. There are advantages in bringing your own fully prepped scooter over but from Aust at least, the 2 way trip is pricey.

      That would be great if you could make it to the States for the Cannonball. Personally, I think the shipping logistics and costs would be too difficult for such a short event. I'd rather buy/borrow/rent a machine for the event. The "comfort factor" of using a tried-and-true scoot is already blown out of the equation just by traveling to a strange country. So, why not add mechanical uncertainty into the mix?! 🤣👍 --QM

  • @ytr8989
    @ytr8989 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    It’s really not that expensive to ship a scooter from the UK to the U.S. The biggest hurdle and expense will be the EPA compliances.

  • @talega1
    @talega1 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I don't know........shipping is very pricy now.....plus dealing w customs....... Buy a new one US, ride it , then $ell it; probably cheaper?

    Anyone see any USA reviews on the Honda Adv160 scooter ? Lack of US reviewers is troubling as it may indicate that it may be a very “lemon” prone production run from Honda. Has any Adv160 done the Cannon Ball Run?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The ADV160 was released too late for the '23 Cannonball. However, there were a few PCX160's that rode the event. As far as I know, they didn't experience any problems other than CVT belt failures or unrelated problems due to non-OEM parts. The ADV160 is based on the same engine, so I would assume the two share similar issues, if any. 🤔 --QM

    ok i have been looking and can not find the video of what GPS you have. i'm ready to buy one now and want the same one you have because its proven to be good. so i need the info on what one to get unless you think their is a better one out there. and i know now as bad as i want to there is no way i will be able to do the 2025 cannon ball. but maybe i can meet you somewhere once you it Texas and finish the ride with you. i have to get another truck.

      The Garmin Zumo XT is a fantastic GPS unit if you can justify the ~$450 price tag: amzn.to/3Oai7Ba . I purchased mine on sale closer to $400, so you might watch for price drops. You can also get it certified-refurbished at a lower price: amzn.to/4eRsp5V . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Good video! I'm still trying to figure out. What I'm going to do for the 2025 SCB. Ship the scoot or ride the scoot? Either way I'm just going to ride, but not for points.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hell, yeah! Riding on a small scoot is great you're still eligible to participate/compete for points. It also "enhances" the experience because you're suffering along with the slow speeds and relative uncertainty of being able to reach the other end! 🤣👍 --QM

    Where would you even buy a Piaggio MP3 in Texas?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      That's a good question! They are rare to see on the roads here because Piaggio doesn't sell well here... not enough dealer network for parts and service, so most people stay away from the lesser-known brands. I've ridden the MP3 250 and 500 a few times, and they are interesting scoots... but I wouldn't want to own one. 😉👍 --QM

    Does Suzuki Sell a Burgman 200 in the USA

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, the Suzuki Burgman is availabe in the USA: suzukicycles.com/scooter/2022/burgman-200 . They can still be hard to find because there aren't as many Suzuki dealers as other Japanese brands, and those dealers are usually reluctant to stock scooters due to their poor sales. 😉👍 --QM

    Wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier to buy a bike in the states rather than ship it ?
    Buy it, ride it, and sell it.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I suggested that option to Alex, but he has sentimental attachment to his Sym scooter. He's determined to ride THAT scooter across the USA (twice), and then try something different for the next big trip. 😉👍 --QM
