Laughing to myself as I realize I've always told Drew to put up or shut up.....That's why he never talks!! I love you son!! You make me proud everyday!
How did Drew not win first place, not only was his playing and chops amazing but he freaking stabbed his snare head at the end.. thats about as epic as a solo gets.
I love this guy !! Amazing ! I took one lesson from Scott Johnson and studied with Ron Ziebart for about six months..I love where this guy has taken it !!
My brain just stopped funcioning, and my heart just freakin skipped a beat. I was speachless the whole video. THIS DUDE IS A LEGEND!!! Ladies and gentlemen the new casey brohard.
I've never been so impressed by a snare solo in my life! 2:22 made my jaw drop and so did the ending. But why did he get 11th place, i didnt see anything wrong in his solo? He deserves 1st! Mad props to you Drew. Hopefully i could march with you before your age-out.
No, I believe they're "blooing." He was from the Bluecoats I heard, and fans of the Bluecoats "bloo" to show appreciation and so on instead of just clapping.
soooo....i havent seen any of the other I&E's from this year on youtube yet, but, um....this is awesome and i really dont understand how this guy placed so freakin low!
There was no penalty and there was no scoring of the drumhead to make it easier to bust it. I saw the drumhead personally and now have it in my suitcase. If there was a penalty three snares on Sunday wld hv gotten them as well. Thanks for the support of Drew and Bluecoats this year. We have had an amazing summer!! Go Blooo!
@mavericksnare42. Sorry there is no sheet music. @numbernile BC battery always does left sleeve hike for HYPE!! Thanks everyone for supporting MY HERO! I love you Drew!! Bring it Blooo!!
The judges took an airplane before they got to where i&e was held and they all managed to sleep in the first class. They woke up from a dream in a dream in a dream in a dream telling them that Drew Guy deserves 11th place, and one of the judges is a Japanese guy.
@joshuaccz actually the corps gave him permission to, since they were changing heads the next day or something. Disrespecting the corps?! Drew guy has stayed with them for six years in spite of other corps offering to pay his tour fee. No
@wvhsdrumline53 no. he didn't score it. He was at rehearsal that day before leaving, and it sounded/looked fine. Its impressive that he did it, because you can't practice an ending like that.
@advancewarsaddict i think you're right. he plays the same lick 2:12-2:22 & 2:34-2:45 which is from their show this year. and I cant remember where i've heard the lick at 3:33-3:37 from.
Guys I think flammaster might be right...I mean, Blue Devils soloists ALWAYS have a classy introduction, & bow after they finish. The fact that drew portrayed an extremely laid back product may have effected they way they scored him...Not that it matters to me at all, because it absolutely doesn't, but I wouldn't doubt it if the judges were turned off to "sup" as opposed to "good afternoon". These days, people take manners too seriously & are way too easily offended with even the slightest thing
@treythedrummer1 wel another big part i how well they are tensioned. If You just crank the drum head as tight as it'll go right when you put it on it'll snap pretty quickly. You have to give drumheads the chance to stretch out before you krank them to the desired tension.
@melvinThEDrkLord1 kevlar snare heads are like 1 layer of kevlar weave, a bullet proof vest is made of about 100 of those layers all interwoven haha, its not the same thing, its still hard to do, but not that hard.
I don't see how he was cocky at all. He looked like he was just having fun while playing it. He's from bluecoats and they always have fun while playing. It's inspiring to me.
@crazyuki13 I was reading around and found out that I&E this year was a two day event and not that many people went the first day, including Drew Guy. The first people who go are usually judged the hardest because there is no one to compare to. Maybe the judge was high off a joint or something.
This was the actual I and E solo.Drew was the only drummer in front of this judge on Saturday. Dci didn't even give him the courtesy of posting his score with the other scores on Sunday. FYI....he has not been disqualified..new rumor today. That wld hv been a stab in the back along with that slap of the face score!!
@notar3alaccount. The only cameras are those of spectators-which were very few on the first day. This happens to be mine and my first time on the Flip. I was nervous for my son! Sorry!
@bballerken167 oh ok. know wonder ive seen alot showstyle lines use them. since most of them use strpas there's no need for them to drill anything into the drum. but if you want to hear a good sounding dynasty drum look up norfolk state university drumline. they use dynasty drums and they sound pretty good
is there a reason he got 11th place? like everything he plays is perfect or near perfect. and he was pullin out a lot of notes and he still managed to make it extremely musical.
Still one of my favorite solos ever, I just wish there was a better quality video somewhere! :(
"Play through the drum," said the instructor...
Laughing to myself as I realize I've always told Drew to put up or shut up.....That's why he never talks!! I love you son!! You make me proud everyday!
Would of been really awkward if he didn't break it .
Now play it off the left.
How did Drew not win first place, not only was his playing and chops amazing but he freaking stabbed his snare head at the end.. thats about as epic as a solo gets.
The true 2010 snare I&E champion, folks.
He deserved a higher placement. The stuff he plays is incredible. Also his dynamics are pretty sick.
I love this guy !! Amazing ! I took one lesson from Scott Johnson and studied with Ron Ziebart for about six months..I love where this guy has taken it !!
I would like this video a thousand times more. period.
Wicked wicked solo... holy hell. And what an ending! Very passionate.
I loved the MCM 2010 opener at the end. Awesome show.
My brain just stopped funcioning, and my heart just freakin skipped a beat. I was speachless the whole video. THIS DUDE IS A LEGEND!!! Ladies and gentlemen the new casey brohard.

I love Drew's expression after the stick goes through. "well... shit. I did it. thats kinda sweet"
That's and ending you can't rehearse
every time I watch this video I see something new...amazing player
the most innovative thing ive seen in a long time as far as tricks and ability. badass.
-love your pulse friends :)
This dude is awesome. Don't know how 23 people thumbs downed this..
the last 30 seconds of his solo was the MCM opener from last year sped up. rad.
without a doubt the best solo at i&e this year.
wow, absolutely spectacular...
simply amazing.
that part when he plays with 3 stick is unbelieveble!!! WOW
@snareplaya15 Drew was NOT disqualified for drumhead stab, nor did he receive a penalty for time. Thanks
Not lying, this is the guy who taught me how to play drums, That was seven years ago and I still can’t play like this
Sounds like a great teacher!
@snareplaya15 Drew WAS NOT disqualified for drumhead stab, nor did he receive a penalty for anything else. Thanks.
this guy is a beast, hes one of the teachers in our marching band
he used to be the center snare for the bluecoats' drumline and fans always cheer "BLOO!" for them
?
They always chant bloo
No, I believe they're "blooing." He was from the Bluecoats I heard, and fans of the Bluecoats "bloo" to show appreciation and so on instead of just clapping.
I'm pretty sure the Kevlar they use for body armor is a little thicker than a drum head. Just a little.
He definitely made that up on the spot
i heard the part from god bless america in there.... very nice job btw..... u killed it, and the drum too...........
I COULD NEVER HERTA SNARE LIKE THAT (pun intended) :)
soooo....i havent seen any of the other I&E's from this year on youtube yet, but, um....this is awesome and i really dont understand how this guy placed so freakin low!
Adding to favorites.........

i love the bluecoats
and i love this solo
BLOOOOOO!!!
i like the mystique book in it
Soo... this is what it sounds like to compress an entire show into four minutes?
I wish the recording was so boomy. Great solo.
has anyone else seen any OTHER videos from this year? Im really curious as to how Andrew Odello's solo sounded.....
@mavericksnare42. Sorry there is no sheet music.
@numbernile BC battery always does left sleeve hike for HYPE!!
Thanks everyone for supporting MY HERO! I love you Drew!! Bring it Blooo!!

He killed it!....literally
My life is complete.
@joshuaccz actually the corps gave him permission to, since they were changing heads the next day or something. Disrespecting the corps?! Drew guy has stayed with them for six years in spite of other corps offering to pay his tour fee. No

I attempted to write this on sheet music for everyone. It ended up looking like this:
FRICKING BADASS.
i wish i could hear that rim stuff live. the camera doesnt really capture it well but it seems pretty sick
Woooooo.
Do it up Mr. Guy!
@Blogdude87tx He's wearing part of a uniform, It's the part that sort of goes underneath the top part of a full uniform.
@FlamDragon69 DO you know that most dci cores switch out heads every week? O.o
ps i love that the name of his solo would have to come with sheet music if the full title were ever really written down
@treythedrummer1 wel another big part i how well they are tensioned. If You just crank the drum head as tight as it'll go right when you put it on it'll snap pretty quickly. You have to give drumheads the chance to stretch out before you krank them to the desired tension.
I love you.......
teachers hated him..he was that one kid always beating on the desk lol..this is pretty sicc.
@melvinThEDrkLord1 kevlar snare heads are like 1 layer of kevlar weave, a bullet proof vest is made of about 100 of those layers all interwoven haha, its not the same thing, its still hard to do, but not that hard.
when he stabbed that head at the end i couldn't stop laughing and watched it over and over again
ME TOO LOL MISS U PAT ITS BEEN TOO LONG
god fucking damnit, this is the coolest fucking solo i've ever seen.
I don't see how he was cocky at all. He looked like he was just having fun while playing it. He's from bluecoats and they always have fun while playing. It's inspiring to me.
very artistic title.
He got 11th
because the judge wrote 1 twice for good measure
was that two sticks in his right hand
@melvinThEDrkLord1 that kevlar is a little thicker.. like only about 20 times thicker.. nothein big.. but still amazing
@Jerahmeel some corps do not allow their members to do I&E to focus on the show
I like how after he stabbed the drum, he's like, "Should I pull the stick out?" Then he's like, "Fuck it."
@Excapted where did you find the judge sheets? I'd like to look at them if possible
@08Pearldrummer actually with as tight as you crank a marching snare, it's not as hard as you would think.
those VISUALS >_>
@charliegfrenz wheres the winning video at?
BEAST!!!
@percussiontech1 They're the judges who gave him 11th place.
What did this guy get? and who won the snare I&E?
@crazyuki13 I was reading around and found out that I&E this year was a two day event and not that many people went the first day, including Drew Guy. The first people who go are usually judged the hardest because there is no one to compare to. Maybe the judge was high off a joint or something.
I was watching a bunch of BC videos, does the battery always hike up their left sleeve? Just wondering
who won that year i am dying to know
This was the actual I and E solo.Drew was the only drummer in front of this judge on Saturday. Dci didn't even give him the courtesy of posting his score with the other scores on Sunday. he's....remarkable.
Where does he tech?!!
anyone else recognize the end of MCM's opener at the end of the solo?
@bballerken167 oh ok. know wonder ive seen alot showstyle lines use them. since most of them use strpas there's no need for them to drill anything into the drum. but if you want to hear a good sounding dynasty drum look up norfolk state university drumline. they use dynasty drums and they sound pretty good
@FOSSIL13drums HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!
@Diachi26 amen. Drew Guy is a freakin beast
HOLY MOTHER MARY HAVE MERCY!
Do the acoustic EQ rims make much of a difference?
How does one get to this level of Pro?
@JoeyxReetz they have to transcribe it for the judges so they dont improve for like 4 minutes, so its already been done
so what place did he get?
i wonder who was judging and where can u find the score sheet? Nice Job Drew
Why were people booing?
He totally went off the wall with this lmao
is there a reason he got 11th place? like everything he plays is perfect or near perfect. and he was pullin out a lot of notes and he still managed to make it extremely musical.
Stabs drum. Keeps on playin'.
@drumboy1313. I don't think so. There was only one judge. Drew was the ONLY battery percussionist that day.
Is it that easy to break a Kevlar head?
@madjical. AMEN! I like your style! :)
Does this guy march Bluecoats or Cavaliers?
