  • Explaining the causes for the most common symptoms patients experience when having pulmonary fibrosis: breathlessness and cough.
Both shortness of breath and coughing can be caused directly by the pulmonary fibrosis (lung scarring). However, these symptoms can also be linked to other causes as well, which sometimes require separate treatments. For example, cough may be also related to untreated acid reflux, postnasal drip, asthma etc. Breathlessness may be linked to heart failure, pulmonary hypertension or blood clots causing a pulmonary embolism.
Treating symptoms in pulmonary fibrosis generally requires a holistic approach, where several conditions need to be treated at the same time.
I encourage you to talk to your healthcare team about all your medical problems and how they tie in to pulmonary fibrosis care in your case.

Thank you for the information, my husband has pulmonary fibrosis he had a single lung transplant 2017 he was doing great but the cough never stop his cough is horrible that he has broken his ribs, after 5 years with the transplant and doing great in January he had a rare parasite in his lungs he was treated for that but now he been showing that his oxygen levels has been going down and rejection of his transplant lung, I feel so bad for him can’t believe that he had 5 years without oxygen now they might put him back on oxygen 😢

I had my first covid infection 2 years ago and since them 3 more covid infections. Since my first infection I had breathing issues which the doctors identified as pulmonary hyperinflation and said the bottom of my lungs became hard but it will heal. I now breathe easier which is good but since a few days ago I have been experience vibrations in my one lung when breathing in..my own research points to lung rales...what could cause this? I am not sick at all or experiencing any breathing issues, no fast heart rate ect. Just the vibrations (rales).. maybe do a video on rales?
