  • We head back into Southern California to explore Death Valley National Park. We're just going to keep it real here, when we first drove into Death Valley it reminded us of a rock quarry. Needless to say, our first impression was not one of unsurpassed beauty. But it didn't take much exploring to discover the beauty of Death Valley - hikes through Desolation Canyon and Mosiac Canyon, scenic drives through the 20 Mule Team Canyon and Artist's Drive, enjoying the salt flats at the lowest point in North America at Badwater Basin and the vistas at the highest point in the park at Dante's View. It's also a park of extremes - in addition to being the lowest point in North America, it's also one of the driest and hottest places on Earth, and the largest National Park in the lower 48 - this park is unique and has a lot to offer!

    You are both great videographers! VERY professional and a pleasure to watch. I am 68 years young now, but haven’t been to Death Valley since I went camping with my parents, as a child. The colors there look fantastic...very interesting rock formations. Hopefully we can visit there in our motorhome next winter, as I don’t tolerate 125+ degree temperatures! Continue with your wonderful videos, and stay safe wherever you’re self-isolating.

    The one thing that I remember about Death Valley is how quiet it is, no birds, no leaves, no traffic, just the sound of you walking and breathing.

    Hi kids. We were there just a couple of weeks before you and also experienced a huge wind event. The power was out for several days making for some interesting times. We also got lost after coming out of the tunnel at the lodge, but the cleaning staff helped us find our way to some adult beverages. All in all Death Valley NP is an amazing park unlike the others. great video!!!

      Haha, I know, right?! I’m sure getting a jumping cholla cactus stuck in the end of my foot in Organ Pipe a couple of months ago is part of the concern... but there were no cactus in Death Valley!! I honestly never imagined the my shoe choice would get the attention it has, but I do appreciate everyone’s concern. And thank you so much, we’re glad to have you along for the adventure 👍😊

    Nice summary of DV. We intend to visit DV next winter. The coverage of your hikes are invaluable to judge what we can tackle, thanks for that. However, I cringe when I see the misses hiking in sandals, climbing up drop offs, slick rocks, etc. I thought you would have learned a lesson in Tucson, with the cactus encounter. Please, please, if you intend to hike, buy some hiking shoes.

      So much more to do in Death Valley than we ever imagined - we actually missed the sand dunes and the crater which are both main features of the park. This is also the place where the rocks race (you can see their trail where they slowly move across the desert floor), but it’s extremely far down a very bad road to get there which was why we decided to skip it. Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks for watching and commenting, Lucy!

    Another interesting fact about Death Valley, as you said it has the lowest point in the USA, but it also sits only 80 miles from the highest point in the lower 48 states, Mount Whitney in CA.

    I had no interest in visiting Death Valley...until I watched this. Thanks for showing a different kind of beauty. Now I have added a place to my "must visit" list. • @EmbracingDetours
      @EmbracingDetours  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Death Valley is a must see! It's funny, before we hit the road I (TJ) very rarely drank beer. I find I really enjoy the experiences at craft breweries we find in our travels. As far as favorites, that's a tough one... I like everything from dark beers to PBR 🙂One of my favorites from our travels was a Burnt Marshmallow Nitro Porter in Petoskey, MI. I don’t know of any TH-camrs that make better videos than you guys!😊 I really think the NPS should loosen the restrictions on dogs, I mean as long as they’re on the leash why not? Soooo many people bring their dogs with them on vacation. Awww, you’re making us blush ☺️ As always, thank you Loran 🤗 We look forward to your comments every week, they bring a smile to our faces! I understand both sides of dogs not being allowed on the trails in National Parks. Unfortunately, not all dog owners are good dog owners... actually, there was a very bad dog fight in the campground while we were there and the Ranger had to get involved and determine if action needed to be taken against the attacking dog. It was a crazy situation made much worse by a bad owner. As with a lot of things, everybody ends up paying the price for the actions of a few. I was just stumped why that particular paved trail was not dog friendly as usually paved trails in National Parks are.
