    Add to your Long Term Food Storage with a Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer. In this video, I'll show you how to vacuum seal food (like hamburger) with a Foodsaver.
    Buy meats when you can find them on sale, then vacuum seal them for later use... it's easy. When you store food using a Foodsaver, it can last several times longer than food that has been stored in zip lock bags.
    Take care,

    What I found is that if you flatten out the hamburger loaf, after you have sealed it, it stores much better in the freezer, and thaws really quickly. When I first put the flats into the freezer, I make sure the are laying horizontal, but once they are frozen, I stand them up on edge.

      That's a great idea! You probably could "smoosh" it flat after getting it in the bag & sealed. Handling the food and actually getting it in the bag neatly seems to be my biggest issue. Your idea saves space too. I like it! Thanks for sharing that!

    • @Starbuck7280
      @Starbuck7280 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree with Kevin. Flattening is the best way. You can even score it so you can break off a chunk to make a quick burger.

    After you seal the meat in the bag, take a rolling pin and flatten them out. It saves space in your freezer.

    I love our FoodSaver. We raise our own meat chickens every year (about 130-150 of them) plus how ever many deer we get each year that we process and package with our FoodSaver. Plus grocery store sales and finds, FoodSavers are really worth the investment. We bought ours from Costco. Great video thanks.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      raisingarrows4him You process THAT many each year... ? Wow.. Do you skin or pluck? Do you put the chicken in the bags whole, or cut up? And... do you have any videos on that? I will be processing some in a few weeks.

    • @LifeSewCrazy
      @LifeSewCrazy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we sure do. The 10th member of our family will be here end of January so we feed a lot of tummies. Our 20ft cu. chest freezer is 2/3rds filled with chicken lol. We bought a plucking machine for about $450 which pays for itself after 2 years of not paying a processing place. I cut them up and then packaged them. I saved all the backs and used them to make chicken broth and canned it as well. Used the livers and hearts to feed the 4 barn cats also. Not much went to waste. We watched videos made by backyardmeat and found them to very useful. God bless.

    Date: 06/17/2016. Review-Sometime back I purchased a FoodSaver 3230 and
    although it did last awhile, it was not as long as I felt it should of
    lasted because I only used it on projects and not all the time. It
    started smoking and would not seal, so I decided that I would purchase
    another Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer since I was in a bind and that is what
    they had in stock at WM. When I got the new one Oct. 2015, I felt like
    something was wrong but completed the project I was doing and went on
    to all the pressing things I had going in my life. Off and on I would
    use it for little projects and mostly for vacuum sealing jars. I
    recently used it and I'm feed up. It quickly over heats when heat
    sealing. Went online to contact FoodSaver and had a heck of a time
    getting a hold of someone. I originally submitted an email on 06/03/16
    which came back saying they would respond in 3 days. As of 06/15/16
    absolutely no response from FoodSaver. After jumping thru hoops for
    them, I find out from them that the newer FoodSaver models overheat
    quicker. FoodSaver tells me if I want a black color replacement like I
    had, then I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks and then they won't send it to
    me, unless I call them back and then see if they happen to have any in
    stock. They refuse to go ahead and take the information and send me a
    black one when it come in which is no way for customer service to do.
    Tried of dealing with this worthless company so I took the White color.
    Watch out... after they told me I would get a New replacement and I
    mailed it back in, they tried to say that I was going to get a
    re-furbished one, but I put a stop to that. I wanted to alert every
    one... you don't want to spend $90 on this piece of junk and a company
    like this.

    if you want to flatten the meat but don't want the juice to come out, put a paper folded to catch the juice then seal again below it

    Excellent video! Our FoodSaver vacuum sealer has become a corner stone in the way we do our long-term storage. We use it to store all of our dehydrated fruits, vegetables, eggs and meats, as well as use it to vacuum seal most everything else in our long-term pantry. Cereals, cake mixes, side dish mixes, most anything that comes in a bag (that we want to store long-term) gets vacuum sealed.
    We feel that the cost of the bags is far outweighed by the savings on food we get by buying items on sale and storing for later. We also use the canister sealers, too.

      If the meat has a lot of liquid in it, there will definitely be some sucked into the machine.
      That's why they have a tray... to catch the liquid.

      My wife likes it. The 93% hamburger was $3.50 I think, it was packaged in large 10 lb plastic clear tubes ready for the freezer. The chicken was loose packed in plastic bags and required repackaging before freezing.

      TexasPrepper2 We have purchased 120lbs each of boneless chicken breasts and ground beef from Zaycon ... good stuff. We generally vac-seal half and pressure can the rest (raw pack the chicken, brown + dry can the beef). The chicken comes butterflied so some separation/trimming is required. The ground beef (93/7) comes in 10lb tubes which makes one pound portioning easy. Suggest placing the chicken breasts on cookie sheets in the freezer for about an hour before vac-sealing ... and flattening the ground beef in the bags prior to vac-sealing for better freezer stacking. Yes ... we will order from Zaycon again.

Regular price for 100 quart bags is $23.99us. And free shipping. I also wrap my burger or loose sausage in saran wrap before putting in bags so it doesn't suck out blood, but I don't have a selector on my vacuum sealer for wet/dry.

      But the seal on the ziploc or other zipper bags is not air-tight. It will leak and eventually fail. I find vacuum sealing keeps meat free from freezer burn and drying out for months and months -- even years. I use zipper bags for short-term storage only. (You can still remove most of the air by zipping the bag almost closed and using a straw to suck out the air.)
