I know this was eight years ago, but I just found a Food Saver at a thrift shop for $3.99. You gave me the courage to order bags for it and try it out. I love your humor. The video is priceless! Thank you!

Thanks so much for this. I just found a FoodSaver V2480 at a thrift store for $4. Wifey and I have wanted a vacuum sealer for a long time, as we buy food in bulk much of the time, and do a lot of big pressure cooker batches. This looks like such an awesome way to preserve our hard work.

Just got my second sealer, first was awful and I returned it. New directions on the foodsaver did not even properly describe which way to place the roll into the machine, but watching you video showed me how to use the machine properly, so thank you for the time you took.

As an Astronomy and Astrophysics graduate student these are some of the coolest kitchen tools for me aside from fridges and stoves lol
I have a new one that I 3-d printed a mount with metal (thanks to my school lol) and mounted it my fridge to make it flush, so it only protrudes 3 inches from my fridge, the sealer bags are right next to it so you pull it over through a slot I made and it makes putting vacuum sealed meal prep in the fridge 1000% faster than baggies, or the traditional plastic containers, I love it lol easy to bring to school and throw in my offices fridge too😂

    Thanks for the video!
I was with you till you did the soup. There was no reason to take it out of the container it was in (not a particularly valuable container, rather the type that more food at the store comes in) and put it in the bag.
As long as you fill those containers to the top (but allowing for expansion of water as it freezes), it's also negligible difference in storage space, plus if you have several of the same size container, they stack quite nicely and provide a flat vertical surface for labeling the food in a uniform stack so it is easy to see at a glance where what you want is, instead of fumbling through bags to read the little label patch on them instead, letting all the ambient heat and moisture from outside, into the freezer in the process of keeping the door open longer.

Well to be honest, we just got a Foodsaver 250 deluxe, and yours was the 3rd or 4th video I watched, and YOU showed me how to actually use it. And I got a few chuckles. I feel a lot more comfortable about using it now. Thank you.

My food saver broke so I found the same model you have on FB for 20.00. Thanks for the video 👍🏻😁 You are definately unique (in a good way).
Those were good ideas at the end. I also found that they make great ice packs (no leaks) and if you add air and seal it makes a good packing bag like the ones that come in the Amazon boxes to take up space in the box. Also we like sealing/waterproofing camping stuff. My only question is will it hold a 50' roll?
(update/edit) I answered my own question after I picked it up. It will not hold a 50' roll. I just cut the roll in half and it fit.

So grateful for this. Where do you buy your replacement parts? Specifically the upper and lower gaskets? I'm having a hard time finding one that i can CONFIRM is compatible with my model which is technically not the same as yours but is very close. Do you find any of them compatible as long as you replace foam with foam or rubber with rubber?

Thanks Claudia, I have wanted a vacuum sealer a long time. I just found a Foodsaver V2000 at a Bargain Store for
$30.00. It looked new or little used in box with all accoutrements it is supposed to come with.
I was very excited ( yes, i lead a boring life ) and when i got it home I broke out my 5 gallon bucket i am storing my home made MRE food paks, currently using Ziplok bags, in to give them a better vacuum sealed home.
I hooked the Foodsaver up to power. Sealed one end of a sleeve to make a bag. I transferred contents of one
Ziplok enclosed MRE to my Foodsaver bag and put it in the V2000 correctly and pressed Vac & Seal.
    BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
    Nothing!!!!!!!! No Vacuum.
I was so let down. sniff sniff
Being a guy....I was about to start ripping it apart to find what the problem was. Then the non ape side of my brain tok over and i thought...." Lets do some research first " I found You Tube vid by MITEEman who had similar problem.
He took whole thing apart then he found the problem. Air leaking by the gasket seal,
I removed my seals carefully and cleaned em with warm soapy water and patted dry.
Re-installed seals and Yay....it worked great now.
    I still have one problem.
Trya as I might.......I just can not get my Foodsaver V2000 to make the Cricket Night Noises or the " Yay!!!! "
    that your machine makes.
    Any suggestions?
ps here is link to the repair video for anyone who has similar problem

    Date: 06/17/2016. Review-Sometime back I purchased a FoodSaver 3230 and
although it did last awhile, it was not as long as I felt it should of
lasted because I only used it on projects and not all the time. It
started smoking and would not seal, so I decided that I would purchase
another Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer since I was in a bind and that is what
they had in stock at WM. When I got the new one Oct. 2015, I felt like
something was wrong but completed the project I was doing and went on
to all the pressing things I had going in my life. Off and on I would
use it for little projects and mostly for vacuum sealing jars. I
recently used it and I'm feed up. It quickly over heats when heat
sealing. Went online to contact FoodSaver and had a heck of a time
getting a hold of someone. I originally submitted an email on 06/03/16
which came back saying they would respond in 3 days. As of 06/15/16
absolutely no response from FoodSaver. After jumping thru hoops for
them, I find out from them that the newer FoodSaver models overheat
quicker. FoodSaver tells me if I want a black color replacement like I
had, then I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks and then they won't send it to
me, unless I call them back and then see if they happen to have any in
stock. They refuse to go ahead and take the information and send me a
black one when it come in which is no way for customer service to do.
Tried of dealing with this worthless company so I took the White color.
Watch out... after they told me I would get a New replacement and I
mailed it back in, they tried to say that I was going to get a
re-furbished one, but I put a stop to that. I wanted to alert every
one... you don't want to spend $90 on this piece of junk and a company
    like this.

    • @OfftoShambala
      @OfftoShambala 10 ปีที่แล้ว

That is an awesome idea! I have a huge bag of sweet potatoes to do this with.... I had not thought of this. If they are already cooked, you wouldn't have to worry about them sprouting... so I am assuming you would still keep them in the pantry if you vac seal them raw... I have heard that it is not good to store raw potatoes (and probably sweet pototoes too) in the fridge... maybe frozen once they are cooked. What do you think/know about that?

I have not tried using ziplocks... just worry that they might melt when you seal them?

I live in Taiwan. I have been here 9 years now and I have grown tired of teaching English and started making American cookies. The Vacuum Foodsealer that I bought from Costco.......... came with only Chinese instructions. Umm, thanks, but 我看不懂這個 (I can't read this!!!!) I was wondering how to use it, so thanks for your very helpful instruction video, it really did help in my overall understanding.
but there is still some little plastic pipe attachment thingie which I don't get. What is that for? Somehow I thought it had something to do with the vacuuming process, but you've shown me that I was wrong about that.

hi...can u vacuum liquid? like stew or soup? would it damage the vacuum part of the machine when it is vacuuming?

    • @claudiastastybits
      @claudiastastybits  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't believe you can vacuum seal liquids, but what they recommend is that you freeze the soup or stew overnight in a container, release it from the container and then vacuum seal it. I have done it. It is a pain to have an extra step, but it works.

do you have to freeze the cooked meat after you vacuum seal the bag. All air has been removed so bacteria couldn't grow. Trying to be able to store cooked meat in an rv cupboard rather than the fridge , to save space

I just picked one up with 2 rolls of bags and a lid contraption for 25.00 at a second hand store . I tested before buying with a hannah montana dvd and the box crushed down so I would say it worked . Mine doesn't have a place to put the bags it is a v 365 . Do you have any tips for bag useage I mean to get the most out of your bags . I have to think there are some techniques that get one the most out of there bag,s I was thinking by cutting bags bigger than needed initially may in some cases allow for more uses . Versus make a bag say big enough for a sandwich then after the bag is opened the bag is hardly big enough for any other uses . I have only owned this for 2 hrs and have not began to use it yet so I guess I am rambling a little and over thinking everything . Any tips and or advice will be greatly appreciated and put to good use Thank You & God Bless

Return it. Doubt you have a Kohl's in Montana but Foodsaver.com is offering 20% off free shipping. V2400 series. Don't pay attention to last 2 digits of a unit. It's just a number FS uses to track units at different retailers. That unit wastes little bagging material and holds the rolls with a cutter for an ease of making a bag. Reusing bags rarely works well and not a good idea with contamination if used for raw meats and such. The foam gasket around your V365 comes out but they go bad. I don't believe the G-2 gasket fits that unit it's so old. Unfortunately the only gasket that's replaceable.

$131, actually $106 after you take that back will give you a hands free unit and comes with a handheld unit for refrig products, deli trays, zip bags. Things you get in and out of on a daily basis. Hope that helped.

When selecting the size of the bag be careful and not to waste those bags. They are expensive. It takes practice to ensure your bag is the right length and size.
