Hello, I consider myself an advanced prepper and recently found your channel. I find it very useful information without a lot of fluff that others stuff into there offerings. I am a FF/Paramedic/ 37 yr Florida State Certified exterminator here. Excellent advice concerning freezing of flour in the freezer. This should kill any weevils in your flour, same goes for rice weevils or any stored pantry pest including spices as well. Great advice as well as to using a paper bag when sealing. The only recommendation I could possibly add is an oxygen absorber in the bag, probably over kill, but we are talking about food you and your family are relying on to survive. The Bay leaf idea somebody mentioned I would have never thought of but any grandma's recommendation carries solid weight in my book. Just my "10" cents (hyper inflation) anyway. A food grade silica free diatomaceous earth can easily be added to any grain to easily kill any insect by the way. The trick is finding food grade diatoms free of silica. Diatoms work as a desiccant, cutting an insects cuticle thereby dehydrating the skeletal mass. Smooth edged diatoms such as pool filter diatoms will not work. There is NO pesticide ingestion action here so no worries for humans. There are inhalation issues when using non food grade or pool diatoms or any diatom that has silica in it. Silica cannot be expelled from your lungs so it should NOT be inhaled!
How do you store rice without causing botulism? Apparently things that have the least little bit of oil in it can cause this! ? Flour even has a tiny amount.
Wow! Thank you so much for this video. I just bought a better vacuum sealer to do this. I'm in Germany and it is getting nearly impossible to get flour. I went to 3 stores today and was only able to get 1 kg of pizza flour. I want to preserve every bit of my stock pile correctly. Again thank you! Please take care and keep prepping! We did the lunch bag vac seal's, each paper bag is pre-measured with enough flour to make 2 loaves of bread for long term storage, we also have a bucket with a gamma lid for daily use
I tried this out this morning. Works like a charm. I actually had a new 5# bag of bread flour I hadn't opened yet, froze it over night, took it out...nice and dry later this afternoon. Put it into a gallon freezer (sealameal) bag and vac'd it after I'd opened and taped it. Worked like a charm. Thank you so much!!

I vacuum seal flour in mason jars. Put a cupcake paper in the top so it doesn’t go into the vacuum. Use the food saver sealers for wide mouth and regular jar and the food saver cordless vacuum sealer. It saves wear and tear on my big food sealer . Also I freeze the flour too and sometimes I put the bay leaves in also
been re-use my vacuum seal bags now for about five years and never had any problems. I turn them inside out throw them in a small batch in washer, turn right side out and hang on line till dry. I roll around an empty wax paper roll, use rubber band to hold.
Ooh I bet this method would work well for dry pastas too, especially the kind that tend to poke through the food saver bags. (I’m looking at you pointy ended penne!!)
Thank you! I'll try these methods for the KETO replacement flours that I use, such as plantain, coconut, cassava, almond, etc. After reading the book Wheat Belly, all regular flour was banned from my home and my health improved dramatically. Thanks again for a good video.

I like your frugal reuse of your bags. Ive been washing storage bags and tin foil for years (I'm a granny) i think doing that saves money but also keeps it out of our landfills. Great tips, thank you!
Yes, I learned lots of the tips from my granny! 💕 I hang the plastic bags to dry from the kitchen window curtain with a clothes pin so it can drip in the sink. 😀
I do it similarly, freezing, then using cheap dollar store ziplock to hold flour, and I put that filled bag into a vacuum seal bag, leaving about 2 inches open to release air. I also add a bay leaf. Bay leaf prevents bugs..
I recommend that you cut off the the vacuum seal bags (if they're ziplock) keep the top sealed/zipped. That way, when it comes time to use the stuff in the bag, you can just use the ziplock opening - and potentially just cut open the bottom again, reseal, and keep using the same bag. That makes vacuum sealing bags a sustainable storage method.
I have celiac disease. I make my own flour from various things. I store it in glass jars. I just watched your video on how to vacuum seal jars!!! THat's my next plan!

I've been buying the two-pound bags for the ease of vacuum sealing. Same with Sugar. Sealing Minute Rice for ease for future preparation. One cup boiling water to one cup rice, wait 5-7 minutes and consume.
You just solved a problem for me. I found I can eat bread without causing digestive distress. I bake sourdough with organic, unbleached flour. I have been drying and storing sourdough discard. I can store 450 grams, plus 8 grams kosher salt, in each bag, plus 50 grams dry starter. When unsealed and dumped into 310 grams water for bread plus 50 grams water for the starter= I loaf sourdough. 😎

You can store flour you buy off the shelf because they remove the germ and bran to make it shelf stable... Which it what would spoil if they didnt... So they add synthetic nutrients that are shelf stable back after removing the germ and bran. If you are grinding your own flour, you need to store it in the freezer once you grind it... But if you keep wheat berries stored air tight with oxygen absorbers... It will last years.
Amazing! thank you so very much for this. We have been buying flour as we could, whatever kind it was when we found it. Just bought a vacuum sealer and am putting flour in the garage freezer right now. Will do as you say and leave it there for a few days before doing this with the sealer. This is such a useful piece of knowledge to have.....thank you for sharing it with us! Take care, be safe and remember to breathe!
For over 20 years I have been vacuumed sealing flour ( with a bay leaf between the wax cereal bag of flour and outer bag, works great , no weevils ) also vac seal sugars with same method minus the bay leaf. If u live in a high humidity area, save the small silicone packs n add 1 to each of the bags before sealing .
You might want to research the adhesive on the tape. Some tapes the adhesive can be unsafe or toxic. I put the label on the vacuum bag to keep the adhesive as far from the food as possible.
Thanks for the paper bag tip, never did this before, thought a partially closed zip lock within the vacuum bag would work but this way I think Is better.
Bugs are already IN it... but by freezing it for at least 3 days after you bring it home from the store..... the larvae will be killed... bring to room temperature... then put in sealed bags...

Thank you for this video. I’ll have to try this. I typically freeze my flour bags for 3 or more days then put in plastic ziplock baggies inside of a 5-gal sealed bucket. For rice, I bake it at 200 degrees for two hours, let it cool in the oven, then place in Mylar bags inside 5-gal buckets.
I don’t have room in the freezer, but I put mine on cookie sheets in the over on 225• for 30-45 minutes, let it cool completely on cooling racks and store in Mylar. Just another trick for those who are short on freezer space.

It's just hubby and me and I have never bought 20, 30, 50 pounds of rice or beans. I stick with the 1 and 2 pounds and it works just fine. I even put more than one bag of rice or beans in a food saver bag to save space.
@@oohyllab, white rice.
I've been wondering how I was going to save the 15 lbs of flour I have. So glad I found your channel.
So glad it helped!
Liebe Gruß aus Der Eifel Jacqueline 😊
Omg...thanks for the tip about tucking the bag into the little tray inside. I was getting so frustrated. It doesn't tell you that in the instructions! I almost went and bought another one...thank you so much!!!
I use mylar potato chip bags to store flour, cornmeal, etc.. A bag of flour just fits an 8 oz chip bag.. They are easy to vacuum and seal.. Your method is great for smaller amounts..
We did the lunch bag vac seal's, each paper bag is pre-measured with enough flour to make 2 loaves of bread for long term storage, we also have a bucket with a gamma lid for daily use
Thank you so much. I did this yesterday and got a bucket full done and no hot kitchen oven canning. More to do!
Great job!
I have been using mason jars to seal dry goods for years. Got a jar top attachment. Works great.
Fantastic!
This is genius! We were looking for a way to store flour long-term that didn't use up a bunch of jars and this worked flawlessly! We were able to put up 50lbs of gluten free bread mix in under an hour. Thank you!!
Liked and subscribed done! Now I agree with Sabrina, best video ever for storage of flour. And thank you for your information on any flour, I use so many types, almond, coconut, rice, you name it! I use it. I finally found a simple and useful video. Will binge watch your videos. I'm a 67 year cook, with 60 years of experience. Now I'm a prepper. I'm in my element. 💞
I absolutely love this method. It helps with portion control and perfectly package if you need to barter.
I vacuum seal flour in mason jars. Put a cupcake paper in the top so it doesn’t go into the vacuum. Use the food saver sealers for wide mouth and regular jar and the food saver cordless vacuum sealer. It saves wear and tear on my big food sealer . Also I freeze the flour too and sometimes I put the bay leaves in also
So I was just wondering why everyone goes to great lengths to store flour. This is so simple and appreciate the paper bag tip!
Thanks for posting this! An easy and simple way to store flour. We just bought a food saver a month ago. We stored 36 pounds of flour this way!
been re-use my vacuum seal bags now for about five years and never had any problems.
Awesome idea using paper bags...i know what im doing tomorrow! Ty, Deb (fellow western Maine girl)
After freezing I disinfect an ice chest and put the flour in for a few days to allow the moisture to dissipate.
Thank you! I'll try these methods for the KETO replacement flours that I use, such as plantain, coconut, cassava, almond, etc. After reading the book Wheat Belly, all regular flour was banned from my home and my health improved dramatically. Thanks again for a good video.
Do you know how long cassava flour lasts?
Just be careful on long time storage as things that contain oil spoil quicker
Check on how long those flours last. I'd hate to see you depend on something that may have gone bad, especially when you really need it
Thank you for both the genius-ness and simplicity of this paperbag method. Definitely a facepalm moment for me :D
Glad I found this video again! Got 20lbs to do👍❤️
So great to find you! I'm in upstate NY and looking for a small homestead (have had gardens all my life, but would like to expand with chickens) Happy to find a homesteading channel with the same seasons I deal with! Yay!
Found you trying to figure this out..lol..Yeah for this video. New to stocking up, the last 2 months. Bought a sealer and been fighting for an hour, to figure out why they wouldn't seal. I was rolling the bag down and it would not work. Thankful to come across this video. Now onto sealing my flour.
Thank you so much for this. I have 80lbs of flour and I've been looking for a way to food saver it without ruining my food saver.
Another tip us to put AP for all purpose or B flour for bread flower or SR for self rising. I know if I don't I will get them mixed up
4:36 is real talk. You’re only being wasteful if you waste things. Seems simple, but most folks lost track of why simple things are often better things.
i just bought 100 bags. thank you, and God bless you:}
Just found your videos this morning and love them. Thank you for the effort you put into them.
Thank you Barb, happy to share! 💕
Oh wow I'm an Aussie grandmother and really need to do this asap
I was wondering if you put it in the freezer, and a minute later you answered my question. Love the idea of using the lunch bags.
I just bought a food saver! This is great! Thank you!
This is my second sous vide cooker th-cam.com/users/postUgkxK2YRU9uBOXzuIEV660Qo3sX7dJDJLg72 and I don’t know why you would cook meat any other way. This model is more compact and quieter than our older version that this one is replacing. We have done creme brûlée, cookie dough and tons of meat. They all come out perfect every time. I recommend this to EVERYONE. The app is great and easy to use. It stays at a consistent temperature. This model is extremely quiet. I just love it. We also have the anovo sous vide cooker 16L box thing and this fits inside that which is great because I can store them together. I just love that I can set this and walk away to deal with the rest of dinner.
And i who was thinking jars, mylarbags etc etc, and looking for jar sealer! How simple isnt this!!😍👍🏻
Thank you for the thaw tip, I always wondered about condensation.
I learned the hard way. I have to put all my vacuum sealed products in a 5 gallon bucket because my cat bites into my bags. So I was glad you said to put them in a bin. Great video! 👍❤💕
After I watched your video about stocking up before fall, I began making my order and placing it to pick up.. It got pretty pricey but I k now I need to go ahead and get those things while I can. This video on vacuum sealing the flour for long term is very handy. I will use this way for sure. Flour was one of the items I ordered. Thanks so much from your newest subscriber. Love your interesting and very useful videos but have only watched 2 since I found you...God Bless you.
Thank you so much. Things are getting crazy. Love and light from Malaysia.
This is how I seal my flour but I love the tape idea.
works great, helps hold the flap down and doubles as a label.
Can you also store flour in Mylar bags witn oxygen absorbers? I'm hispanic and want to store Maseca for tortillas and tamale 🫔. But not sure if that type of instant corn masa mix will last long. Can you help me?
Rodley E Riffe I need to dry my sourdough starter! Thanks for info!
How do you dry starter? I don’t have a decent dehydrator.
@@lja000 I spread mine on parchment (like icing a cake), on a cookie sheet. I live in CO so it dries on the counter in 3-4 hours. I originally grew up in NE OH. There I would put the oven on warm, turn off, then place in oven with door cracked to allow moisture escape. The oven light is sufficient heat after oven is warm. I dry avocado pits powdered (lot's of vitamins and minerals). TBS in stews, etc. Also organic plant food, avacodo pit, onion skin, banana peel, rice, and Epsom salts. God bless 💛
Thanks a million, I need to start my storage.
Awesome video, thank you for showing us how to vacuum seal flour! ❤️😊
Thanks great tip I also heat all flour, corn meal. Grits in the oven to kill bugs, eggs. Before I put it in my sealed bags with a couple of bay leafs..put in oven for 30 min on low heat stir it after 15 min if you like you can google how to dry can it will give you direction .
I buy the rolls of vacuum seal and make my own bags.
This method works great. I have 100lbs packed away. Thanks
Painters tape IS the official canning and vacuum sealing label !
Masking tape too I prefer the white tape
Yep and for freezer containers for leftovers, though I use masking cause it's pale
And yet another BRILLIANT idea!! Thank you!!☺
Thank you! Great information and just in time. Bought a 25 lb bag, want to seal it, didn't know to freeze it first. Thank you. 🌻
I did this today. 18 cups of all purpose flour, 9 cups of sprouted rye flour and a bag of all purpose einkorn into the freezer!
Stop one: Buy vacuum food sealer. Step two: buy more flour. Step three: follow the steps on this video. Thank you!
Freeze it for 3 days in the freezer before you do that. It will kill any weevil or bugs in flour.
I see them at second hand stores all the time....
Step four vote for someone giving to us, not other countries.
Good tip on re-using the bag!! Thanks!
I like the 8 inch x 50 feet rolls of sealer bags at Amazon for 18 bucks. You get 2- 50 foot rolls.
What brand?
I’m so happy to have ave found this. I bought wheat to grind because I thought you couldnt store flour. Thank you so much.
Thanks
Amazing! thank you so very much for this.
Thank you so much for this. I was always wondering how to store flour and protect it against bugs etc. I will definitely use this from now on.
Glad it was helpful!
Bugs are already IN it... but by freezing it for at least 3 days after you bring it home from the store..... the larvae will be killed... bring to room temperature... then put in sealed bags...
I used this method for storing oats when I ran out of mason jars. Thanks for the tip.
Wonderful!
The tube must know that tomorrow I’m vacuum sealing flour because you showed up lol
I am new to you, it was scrolling and came a cross your video and had to watch it, I haven't been buying large amounts of flour because I was real sure how to store it for long term, I have been freezing it but I had enough to do 4 bags, it worked WONDERFULLY, think you so MUCH, I am now a new follower and have some great videos, God Bless
Thank you so much for your brilliant ideas!!! I used to make a lot of bread, but now I tried to cut down some carbs. So now I have a way to keep my flour fresh and longer!! Thanks!
Thanks for your hard work. Putting flour in the freezer for three days thanks. As soon I get off this going to load up my freezer with flour 😊🤗
Thanks for your informative video! I was doing it this way except I folded the brown paper bag over and then later the flour got soft again. So, I will give this a try and hopefully it will hold its air-tight vacuum seal. Thanks again and have a great day. I subscribed!
katie vallette welcome to our TH-cam family! 💕 so glad this helped!
I just bought a lot of flour and put it in the freezer. I was wondering the best way to preserve it and I found your video. Thanks for the info!
I don’t have room in the freezer, but I put mine on cookie sheets in the over on 225• for 30-45 minutes, let it cool completely on cooling racks and store in Mylar. Just another trick for those who are short on freezer space.
