I have the AWD V6 Challenger. I live in MN where the AWD is very handy and I can't afford a separate winter car. Been thinking about supercharging it to get more HP, but we will see.
You don't even need an AWD model for winter conditions; just offer a rear differential upgrade package for RWD models with a limited-slip/torsion diff . the only reason the vehicle cant maneuver in slow is that is has an open differential; so once one wheel spins, thats it.
I have a 2011 R/T AWD max and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! It’s saved my life twice! I have never had a traction issue and it’s an absolute blast in an empty ice covered parking lot!
When i found out there were canceling the awd RT in 2015, i traded in my 08 awd RT for a 14 awd RT. AWD is just not for snow, its also great for handling. Audi, BMW and others have been doing this for years, awd drive really helps the car corner better and more stable. Just my opinion, but when it comes time for a new car, sadly it will not be a charger, which i love.
I don't live very far south of you in ND and I love my 2010 AWD R/T. My first winter with it and so far haven't needed my truck yet. Always had FWD cars for commuting, never again after owning my charger.
I have a 2014 Chrysler 300S with the 5.7 Hemi and AWD and love it. It's great in the snow and has plenty of power. I had a RWD Challenger for 10 years before buying the 300 which was great, but I got tired of storing it in the winter and switching out to my winter beater truck. For myself, these AWD V8 300's and Chargers are the best of both worlds for summer and winter driving.
I have a '14 Charger R/T AWD Max.. It eats up the snow, will drive pretty much normal in the winter. I specifically went looking for this vehicle, not expecting to find the Max edition in 2015. I first looked at 2015 300's, then found out they didn't offer it anymore, so I went looking for a 2014, and found the AWD MAX Charger with 16k on it, the original owner had to trade it in for a new truck because his business was needing more trucks.. The happen by, actually looking another R/T AWD at a Chevy dealer and saw this, and the rest is history. I love it.. Will get a tune on it soon to improve performance. Updated fogs to led.. They need to bring it back, so I can buy a new one!
Currently drive the 2014 rt awd. Love my car, no issues in 7 years. Only thing that has broken was my sunroof alignment sensor. Living in northern us. We get a lot of snow, but I didn’t like the idea of a suv nor did I need a truck. This car really is the best of both worlds without breaking the bank like the Germans do
I'm thinking of getting a 2015+ charger police package. Basically the only way to get a hemi with awd. I also want to swap front and rear bumpers to make it look like a scat pack.
2011 R/T AWD with all options except adaptive cruise control. Handles Colorado winters like a champ. I can take almost any car off the line or from a roll. Burn out are pretty impossible as you have to manually drop to first and get really aggressive with the car. Anyone with the 7th Gen body type that spins donuts in powder snow knows that the leading side turn into a giant snowplow with 0% visibility. Thankfully I have leather and a few good towels, so I just roll down my window and let the snow in. I know... sacrilege. - I managed to jump my wife’s Honda Pilot AWD upon hitting a patch of ice and going into a shoulder ditch. I feel that if I were in my Charger, I wouldn’t have had a problem with the ice. Again, in my wife’s car, this time a Honda Pilot AWD that was from the previous year to the one mentioned above, I hit a moose because the car wouldn’t respond to fast handling. The car was totaled. Hence the second Pilot. And again, I feel like the moose would still be alive and I would be considering it a close call if I were in my Charger. I also take a solo road trip from Denver to Las Vegas every non-COVID year. I can drop the back seats, flatten the front passenger and throw down an inflatable mattress and stay in the car overnight in different rest stops. Decent room for someone that weighs 280 & 5,8”. Big guy. Anyway, the car slips into Eco mode for of the drive and it handles mid-May Vegas traffic just fine. I’m going to stay in the 7th Gen as I like the meaty body and grill. No major problems, except for factory recalls. But they have taken less than a day to address. I did replace the breaks with Brembo (?sp). I get a nice aggressive stop. Well, that’s it. My Charger is 10 years old and still an impressive machine.
I too replaced my brakes, but I used Power Stop, and kept the calipers stock, replaced at 33k, the stock rotors warped. Next time I'll upgrade the calipers. Rotors are slotted & drilled.. Stopping power is almost doubled with the stock calipers.

I remember AWD being an option for the V8 but I just couldn't afford it at the time. Fast forward to present day making more money and having good credit, I'm sad to see that AWD is no longer an option, that's the one thing that has kept me away from the car as where I go a 4x4 truck or AWD car that's more than an inch off the ground is required.
Last night here in upstate SC bunch of snow started coming down. We were expecting flurries. Man it was literally the end of the world. Dozens of cars stranded and trucks couldn't get friction. And the rolling hill terrain didnt hell. I saw a car in such a deep ditch the rear bumper was the only thing level with the road. Meanwhile I'm giddy that my 4wd 4runner is doing something as I went to go save my mother. 4wd / AWD isnt always needed but so helpful when ya need it.
I have to say I am very happy with my 07 300 AWD, it definitely feels different than my 06 Limited and my 05C. I just bought it for my wife for Christmas. I like the fact that it pulls itself right up onto the ramps rather than trying to push them out of the way. Did anyone else notice the 5 speed is still the choice for severe duty AWD police cars? Telling me the NAG1 Mercedes transmission is the more robust of the two, plus the slap stick is nice too.
My son recently bought a 2016 AWD 5.7 V8, ex-highway patrol. Awesome in the snow. And during the driver's ed class he had to take recently when he got his first speeding ticket, the state patrolman noted the Charger & said it is the best vehicle in the snow bar none, including SUVs. Even with 154k miles, the Charger still has much energy.
Reminds me to start watching for old highway patrol awd chargers... thanks for pointing it out ... want something with some more hrsprs and a little more room than my Volvo S60R.
Marspeed: Your clips of The Awd Charger doing cookies in snow look so similar to me and my buddy doing the same in his grey Sport Edition at night time in a snowy lot, and you have a slide of his exact car. I like the current Charger front and rear treatment, but I think the 11-14 Charger is one of my favorite looking full size muscle sedans ever styled.
2 weeks ago I got a 2015 Charger AWD 5.7. Got it from NC state police. And has been great up here in cape cod, ma with snow. It was a “street” pursuit model. But had to find info
I have a 2014 Charger R/T Plus AWD. I live in IA. I love this car in the snow. The biggest downside is finding parts. I would love to put the Limited Slip 3.09 gears in, but no one makes a set of front 3.09's. I believe the lack of aftermarket support hasn't helped as well. PS Buy a Tazer for the summer.
@@finneyz24 right, and the difference between 3.09 and 3.06 is tiny. If anything that tiny difference would be a good thing. LSDs are also rather pointless on these cars. The brake lock differential(BLD) does everything you'd want a LSD to do and more. It has a torque vectoring effect, an effect a LSD would get in the way of. You're also not going to drive with the BLD off because turning it off would also turn off the AWD. But you can turn off the AWD without turning off the BLD if you want to do that whole RWD burnout drift thing.
@@snek9353 Interesting information. I will look more into it. I do have a tazer that allows me to shut off the AWD for messing around and saving a little fuel when it's cold, but clear. You may have just saved me a bunch of money to put toward something else. Thanks for the info.
@@finneyz24 No worries, I went through the whole 'do I want a LSD' for my '14 Hemi AWD 300. I landed on no, A LSD just doesn't make any since in these cars. I too have a Tazer as well as other toys. I keep mine in force AWD most of the time though. When you have a safe opportunity throw your car into a tight corner with your foot on the throttle, the AWD on, and the ESC in partial off. Something like a left turn from a light works well. If you pay attention you'll notice a series of things happen. The first tire that'll want to spin will be the inside rear. The computer is very good at predicting this and will clamp down on the brakes on that wheel. Because the differential is open this transfers all the rear torque to the outside rear. This is a very good thing, not only does it have most of the weight on it, but it also needs to be turning faster than the inside wheel. This also applies more torque to the outside wheel providing that torque vectoring effect and helping to turn the car. A LSD would prevent this, with a LSD clamped down it'd prevent the outside wheel from turning faster than the inside wheel under power. If you've turned in hard enough and am still on the throttle that rear outside will then start to slip, with the ESC in partial off the car will let it. The ESC in this mode will let it step out about 15deg before doing anything with the front brakes to straighten the car out. But before that happens it engages the front drive, it'll clamp on the clutch in the transfer case applying power to the front. If you haven't spun it around this will hook hard and it'll shoot right out of the corner.
I love my 2013 RT AWD Blackout Sport Baby! I always wondered why they canceled the style, and this was the perfect explanation. If you need more photos in the future of this car, I'll always have my Wraith! (His name)
I just got a 2013 awd 300s with hemi for work, and it is amazing so far. I also have a 2018 durango rt for the family. I drive them both in pretty extreme cold (-40c) and snow (foot or so),... the performance is remarkably similar, with the durango feeling just slightly more confident. I bet if they do bring back some kind of awd performance charger or 300 it would be some kind of hybrid electric.
As a Minnesotan who uses a charger year round, AWD is must. I’ve looked for eight years and have seen literally ONE R/T AWD for sale in that time(had almost 150,000 miles on it, so nah). I finally had to give in a buy a GT AWD last week.
I like to think I know quite a bit about car knowledge and had never heard of these until I saw an AWD charger near me and came across this video when looking it up. Can confirm that marketing was poor. Now I really want one! Great video, thanks!
Love my 2010 R/T AWD. I live up north and I have a truck as well but nothing beats the look on a jeep owners face when you can pull on them from a red light in the slush and snow in what they presume is a RWD sedan.
Loved the video and couldn't have been more relevant to my life atm! Do you know if the '07 SXT 3.5L V6 has an AWD system similar or identical to its hemi counterpart? Would one theoretically be able to take the hemi from a junked charger of the same year and mesh with the same drivetrain with all that extra power? Already upgrading my suspension and i keep seeing chargers of the generation appearing for parts locally.
07 SXT owner! Sitting at 40k so the car was practically new when i purchased it! I was almost disappointed as a previous owner of old volvos, but i very quickly learned how quirky and as reliable as you treat them type of cars. I'm a mechanical sadist and empathize with cars like I do natural locomotion (i would treat a horse like i wanted it to outlive me if this was 1821, not 2021.) Anyone here own one? Do you like them? I live in NY and this weather has saved my life already from a collision on 9w (3 ft from a 250ft cliff for those who are from the rest of the world) I loved my volvos, but there is a reason i always took the train in winter months
I got one of the last ones 2014 with the Dr Dre beats system I’m trying to make it faster and get a tazer so I can put it in forced AWD cause when the AWD is on I gap a lot of people easily
Great video. It would be awesome if you did a video on the 2012-2014 Charger SRT8 car and do a full break down of cars produced, colors , variants like the Super Bee etc.
I just picked up an AWD RT max last month. I wanted a daily winter driver with a hemi. And suvs are too top heavy for me when it’s nice out. I didn’t buy it new, because I got a challenger instead. But any muscle car “feeling” guy hates driving a winter beater. Nothing worse than the “I miss my v8”. I do agree with the transmission change being an issue with the awd system and room. Hence the 5 speed still in the police package. I suggest to anyone who wants one, don’t wait too much longer. The mileage is going up and so are the prices. Took me a few months to find one.
Great video. I think small families under 5 people that live in hillsides or snowy terrains would benefit from a charger or chrysler awd sedans. I like them but I live in a flat sea level valley where most of the year it's dry, so a awd sedan wouldn't benefit me much. And yes I have been wanting a suv more and more over the years. I can understand their growing popularity.
Everything you point out makes sense from a business standpoint, but as a hellcat charger owner, whenever I spin the rear wheels with a slight touch of the pedal I wish I had an option to enable AWD. I don't even both racing people from a dead stop on the street - it's pretty much pointless in a hellcat with nothing to gain and everything to lose (i.e. the WRX owner saying he destroyed a hellcat off the line). I'm hoping they address this in the future with an in-axle electrification option to provide launch power to the front wheels rather than a full-fledged AWD system.
I got a14 charger r/t awd and love it and I pulled out the relay for the awd and tried to doing a burnout it started then stopped then started again idk why
5 years ago I helped a friend install a magnussen SC on his 2011' Awd RT Charger and that thing could launch like a catapult. SO fun spanking just about anything to 100mph.
I had a 2011 Charger R/T Max and just upgraded to a 2014 Charger R/T Max. As a daily driver in the Denver-Metro and the surrounding mountains, I can’t think of a better sedan. I learned quite a bit about the system so I want to make that video for sure! First challenger awd and then that one
I can tell ya, ask your questions.
I think FCA dropped the ball on advertising and marketing. I’d like to find a retired R/T AWD police vehicle and build one.
Goonzquad did that (although wrecked ), then supercharged it after fixing it.
I have one for sale
@ FCA does exist
I love the look of the old chargers
I have a 2011 R/T AWD max and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! It’s saved my life twice! I have never had a traction issue and it’s an absolute blast in an empty ice covered parking lot!
When i found out there were canceling the awd RT in 2015, i traded in my 08 awd RT for a 14 awd RT. AWD is just not for snow, its also great for handling. Audi, BMW and others have been doing this for years, awd drive really helps the car corner better and more stable. Just my opinion, but when it comes time for a new car, sadly it will not be a charger, which i love.
Totally agree, even more so the type of system these use is superior to the Audi, BMW, and most others in regard to handling.
Being from Winnipeg where we have winter conditions 4 to 6 months of the year, would definitely like the AWD option on any Charger or Challenger
I have a 2012 300c awd,it’s amazing in the snow I just love passing other cars stuck in snow
I sold my RT , I found and AWD Charger 5.7 pro charged and I’m going out next week to pick it up in Texas 💯
I have a 13 RT awd and it's an absolute beast in snow. I love it! After I got the mds problem fixed the car, it's been a great vehicle to daily
Mds 🤷🏽♂️
Can somebody answer why they got rid of the heated and cooled cupholders I love those when I have my 2011 charger RT
And why they got rid of one of the groceries hooks in the trunk in 2021 (or between 2019-21)?
Currently drive the 2014 rt awd. Love my car, no issues in 7 years. Only thing that has broken was my sunroof alignment sensor. Living in northern us. We get a lot of snow, but I didn’t like the idea of a suv nor did I need a truck. This car really is the best of both worlds without breaking the bank like the Germans do
I'm thinking of getting a 2015+ charger police package. Basically the only way to get a hemi with awd. I also want to swap front and rear bumpers to make it look like a scat pack.
I got a awd hemi charger and it’s a beast in the snow. Just keep an eye on your control arms and sway bar links they tend to go bad
Good looks just got one a couple months ago

"Car wizard shows everything BROKEN on my AWD HEMI Charger"
I've thought for a while now that a AWD Hemi 300 would be Hoovies ideal daily.
Yep. Can see it comin'.
Hoovie isn't a big FCA fan.
It’s funny bcuz I have the AWD 2012 V8 and mine just got the twin turbo kit. We on the way to being a fast sleeper

The Charger hemi AWD were the best “all-around” muscle cars on the planet
Ehh close, two problems...
1. The modern Charger isn't a muscle car.
2. The Chrysler 300 is a better car.
Yes please do a video explaining the awd
I have a full script that I made for that one while doing this one so it will be coming!
At 8:18. That is my charger at the dealer that I bought it from. Great video!
I didn't even know this existed 😄👌🏽 greatly appreciate the video. Can't wait for part 2
my 2014 charger r/t is an all wheel drive
2 weeks ago I got a 2015 Charger AWD 5.7. Got it from NC state police. And has been great up here in cape cod, ma with snow. It was a “street” pursuit model. But had to find info
They changed transmissions it wouldn't fit in the existing transmission tunnel
I remember reading an article that covered what you are stating. Wish I could remember where it was.
Personally own a 5.7 awd (2014) 120k miles, only thing I’ve had to get fixed is the sunroof sensor failed
There is a police version with the 5.7 currently

I have a 2014 Charger R/T Plus AWD. I live in IA. I love this car in the snow. The biggest downside is finding parts. I would love to put the Limited Slip 3.09 gears in, but no one makes a set of front 3.09's. I believe the lack of aftermarket support hasn't helped as well. PS Buy a Tazer for the summer.
But the car has them stock.
@@snek9353 Mine came with 3.06's

Good Video. Impressive car I didn't know existed with Hemi and awd
Is it a coincidence that the video length is 13:20???🤔🤔🤔
1320 feet (quarter mile)...
Managed to secure a 07 charger rt awd
Nasty pickup 🤩
I'm not a Mopar fan, but the V8 AWD is awesome. That'd be worth a look for me.
Please do the awd system
Love my 2010 R/T AWD. I live up north and I have a truck as well but nothing beats the look on a jeep owners face when you can pull on them from a red light in the slush and snow in what they presume is a RWD sedan.
I been waiting for this video, thanks for the upload marspeed👍
Awesome glad to hear it!
I'm a mechanical sadist and empathize with cars like I do natural locomotion (i would treat a horse like i wanted it to outlive me if this was 1821, not 2021.)
Anyone here own one? Do you like them? I live in NY and this weather has saved my life already from a collision on 9w (3 ft from a 250ft cliff for those who are from the rest of the world)
I loved my volvos, but there is a reason i always took the train in winter months
I got one of the last ones 2014 with the Dr Dre beats system I’m trying to make it faster and get a tazer so I can put it in forced AWD cause when the AWD is on I gap a lot of people easily
The 2021 police version also canceled the v8 AWD option only v6 for AWD and only v8 on rwd.
this video was perfect, looking at a AWD hemi from 07 with 124k miles on it and it’s mint still. absolutely sold on this car
This was a really cool video
How dose the different awd system work
Great video brotha!
I didn't even know these existed till about 5 months ago. Now I want one.
Love the AWD I have so much, it's made me pause on replacing it since I can't get a newer one.
Love my awd 2012 rt, comes in good use in New England winters
Everything you point out makes sense from a business standpoint, but as a hellcat charger owner, whenever I spin the rear wheels with a slight touch of the pedal I wish I had an option to enable AWD. I don't even both racing people from a dead stop on the street - it's pretty much pointless in a hellcat with nothing to gain and everything to lose (i.e. the WRX owner saying he destroyed a hellcat off the line). I'm hoping they address this in the future with an in-axle electrification option to provide launch power to the front wheels rather than a full-fledged AWD system.
Where did you get the clip of black rt awd with wisconisin plates? Looks and sounds just like mine.
I bought the 13 rt awd a few months ago and I love it
Thanks for making this video! Maybe dodge will see this and add it to next generation of chargers.

I had a 2011 Charger R/T Max and just upgraded to a 2014 Charger R/T Max. As a daily driver in the Denver-Metro and the surrounding mountains, I can’t think of a better sedan.
