I fished skinny water up there. It was awesome. And you are right... It is a freaking adventure up there. Never been anywhere like it. I had a hard time choosing between casting again or taking pictures or just being in awe of my surroundings. Stayed at my brother's in iron river. Wish I would've visited your shop. I'll be in there one day.

Finally caught you live. Lotsa good stuff, tough to beat skinny water trout in the back country! I was doing some tying while watching/ listening so I never got a chance to drop a suggestion, but would love to see some fly tying videos of some mid-range pike/ small mouth flies.
thanks for giving very helpful information. as much as i love places like the Au Sable, Manistee, and such, ive never had the sense of awe and adventure that i get chasing 8" brookies in small "creeks" in the U.P. ive spent alot of time in the Rumley area. i hope to get back up and do alot more exploration in the future!
I’ve been hitting the Two Heart in May. Been doing good on steelhead (euro nymphing with mops). Would the mouth be worth a look with spey/heavy tips? Every time I go there, I get lost and there’s no reception. I love it!
If you go back to the 40s, 50s and 60s just about every river, stream or creek in the UP was being stocked at one time or another, and Brook trout were among the most stocked.
Phil Cleven, do you have any resources to this information? I know a lot of stocking took place on various rivers. However, one of the reasons the brook trout is our state fish, is because it’s native to our watersheds. There are a few rivers up here that hold Brookies that from my research have never been stocked. Very intriguing subject. Thanks for the comment.
Speaking of log jams. Planned a trip on a lake Michigan trib east a bit from escanaba. Looked to be probably 4/5 log jams we would have to portage or navigate... No big deal. Actual jams on the float was probably in the mid twenties,absolutely exhausted but still looking back was an adventure.
I fish at 5 wait with a 7 and 1/2 rodin skinny waterand I lay out my streamersin the holesand I put on my long tidbit for the small stuffI just don't tangle nearly as much as the other guys that go with meand they go too long

Tight quarters, skinny water, I’m thinking like a 6’ two weight? Enough to pitch a bushy #14 dry ten or twenty feet? Sounds like heaven.
