I do think I got lucky with it. Mostly it was the seller being an awesome bloke. So many people were chasing him, but he was still willing to sell it to me and even take a substantial amount off the asking price in the process without me having to throw a lower figure at him. Do that with good maintenance ant the Turbo will see huge service and put a big smile on the face every time you turn the key . Hey, remember me? I was the bloke who purchased the Ford mobile office table for my AU2. Lovely car mate. My friend bought a BA Mk I 5sp in Phantom new from the factory. Sounds like a great choice EXCEPT he sold his concourse condition E48 Charger for $24,000 to fund the purchase :( A car that would fetch well over $100-200,000 now. I guess nearly every older car enthusiast has a story of a muscle car that they sold for peanuts. Oh, and the ECU would not allow him to fan the clutch and lay rubber. Protecting the driveline, I guess.
Anyway, I am so glad that you got a manual one. The turbo Barra is like all other turbo engines in the sense that it responds well to modifications - if that is what you are into. Even as stock, they are fun to drive. My uncle has a later model Tyfoon sedan, and that thing pulls quite hard. It is just a shame that it is an auto. Because the Tyfoon is a large, 4 door sedan, it does not handle as well as the two Nissan 200SX's that I have owned. That is just Physics.
As far as prices go, hopefully, it will appreciate in value. Sadly for owners, if this virus drags on, we may see some bargains come up for sale. Time will tell. I am sure that you will enjoy your new purchase-all the best with it.

I've always been more of a Euro car guy, but I do find these very appealing. Really show that there was some serious design and engineering talent here in Oz If you want a very affordable big sedan that's a great drive, it's a fine choice. I'm not surprised demand is through the roof. It was fairly obvious that when they stopped building Falcons, it was going to do great things for the value of used ones. Especially the hot ones like this. You keep this in good nick (as I know you will), and I've no doubt that its value in coming years is going to go sky high. Especially being a 6 speed manual. Good luck with it mate. I like your style.

I’m 16 and on my L’s with my first car, a ‘99 Toyota Corolla AE112R Levin, which is semi rare on our roads. But what makes it more rare is it’s a Japanese import, so its value may potentially inflate over time. I love the car to bits, especially with it’s factory head unit (which is a cassette player AND CD player as it’s the higher spec Levin model), but Sean you got me set on getting a mighty BA Falcon next (next as in pretty soon after I reach my P’s). A few people I know have Falcons and I strongly feel that I need to own one before they all shoot up in value, which is already happening. My plan is to try and find a really nice example of a BA and just enjoy it, respect it, and truly acknowledge it for what it is. I’ll be one of those very few P platers that own a Falcon and haven’t modified and thrashed it to pieces. I love stock vehicles.
Great video man, beautiful car great buy. That’s how I want my XR6 to look like, stock, clean, and shiny.

Good to see you got a fairly straight example that hasn't been messed around with. Don't know much about them so look forward to your future videos. Be careful with that clutch, I burnt one out on a manual turbo car. It was starting to slip like yours and I ignored it for too long and was left stuck at the side of the road. Avoid flooring it in high gears that puts the most amount of wear on it ... trust me I speak from experience ...

I had picked up a 5 speed mk1 about 18 months ago. The usual opened marketplace at the right time, seller had originally intended to part it out. Asked him if he'd sell the whole car, he said 1500, was down there within 30 minutes of the ad being posted. Threw registration on it online and drove it home, albeit without a working clutch pedal. Really only needed a small list of work that I completed in my shed, biggest being dropping the gearbox to replace the concentric slave cylinder. Threw on some series 1 AU Tickford 5 spoke wheels and that was it until I sold it after doing a few interstate trips in it

One upgrade I would definitely recommend is the F6 / Typhoon / GT Brembo & PBR brake kit. They’re factory, so it’s an easy fit. Trust me - you won’t look back!

Being a Holden man, I like the XR6 turbo engine & I'd be happy to throw that into my VY S ute any day. The BA is what the AU should have been when released.
When you get the chance, go to an automotive paint supplier & buy these 2 products: Juice Super C cutting compound & 3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish 06068. The Fords of that era suffer horribly from paint fade due to the harshness of our weather. Clean the car first to get rid of any grit & contaminants, use a machine polisher for the Juice Super C & then hit it after with the 3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish 06068. The results will astound you & you only need to do it twice a year to protect the paint & metal. It'll keep it shiny & perfect.

Awesome video mate. Love the manual gearbox. I have had the same conversation with some of my mates about auto vs manual. Manual, for me just makes them drivers cars. Nothing like the feeling of moving through the gears and making the decision for yourself. I currently have a manual FG F6 and wouldn't have it any other way. Absolutely love the B series, and after owning a 6 speed BF N/A XR6 for around 2-3 years now, any other car just doesn't feel right when I drive it or even consider buying. I love how it handles, how it takes bumps in rough roads, how quiet it is, the practicality of it, and how it just eats up the miles and loves to cruise. Not to mention decent fuel economy and a fair amount of grunt to tow stuff. The only car I could upgrade to without regretting it would be a BF Turbo. Even going to a F series Falcon would be kinda sad due to nostalgia from my first car being a BA XR6 upon getting my licence many years ago.
Also, nice buy! Watch out for the rust around the fuel cap. Looks good at the moment, but I'd still check that out ASAP and get it fixed before it develops too far, if it is there happening behind the outer panel. Also not sure if the manuals had the milkshake issue but I'd def look into that too.

Before you do anything remove and clean out the factory turbo oil feed line. Inside the oil fitting connected to the block under the intake manifold there is a small filter inside held in by a circlip that clogs up. This starves the turbo and cooks the bearings, also worth cleaning the banjo type fitting at the turbo itself. Definitely worth looking into and getting done

What a great find mate. I actually wanted an xr6 but was lucky to get the 2002 fairmont ghia. That manual is a real treat and would have loved to have got a manual version of my car. But next time I'm after a car I'll def get one of them. The ghia I bought shares a lot in common with that one the front end is less rounded and looks more like the xr6 its a shame you have to replace the clutch mate. After having to replace one on a honda it was one of the most expensive things I've had to fix on our manual. If opportunity presents itself again I'll def consider upgrading to a 6 speed manual xr6. With that car modernizing the head unit would be a breeze and would suit the car well as it did in my honda. 02 ghia though that's another story ;)
