What do you think of the IC7 install in the AU? Aside from now being able to see coolant temp, it'll be really helpful later once the car is turbocharged - being able to see boost pressure and monitor the trims. The buttons can also be customised to do anything I like, such as setting up multiple boost levels and switching between them.
Can't argue against it's fit, form and function of the device, but I wish there was a retro version that comes in green digital rectangles, similar to the XF Fairmont Ghia my dad use to have back in the 80s. It's the equivalent of having a Fox body mustang gage of that era.
Function over form for some I suppose, I would personally find a spot to put it (maybe in replacement of the ford cluster) and then 3d print a fascia for it. Worth the extra effort
One of the growing challenges keeping older cars on the road is the lack of good quality spares. It's even affecting aviation now. Where we could once spot cheap stuff by it's cheap price nowadays it's an expensive lottery.
My new Repco pump lasted 6 months on my AU....🙄. Never knew about the metal pully mod option. Ill be doing this next time it fails. Another great video. Thank you
there is a fairmont option for the fairmont ghias where there was a satnav screen with the stereo below it. Would have been sick to have made something like that with the IC7. But I really love your setup, itll be really cool for the street and especially for the track. Cant wait for the turbo to be put on.
Sean, personally I would prefer the second sensor to be installed, keeping the build factory as possible. The IC7 is a give away once you peer into the interior. The second sensor is unnoticeable under the bonnet and less intrusive. Otherwise great job. Cheers
Your custom bracket for the IC-7 is awesome, brilliant work! I personally like the IC-7 located where the standard instruments are; I'd go so far as to replace the standard instrument cluster and run the IC-7 alone if possible, but that's just me. Also, I feel you on what you were saying about the plastics, the AU Falcon plastics are pretty good; whenever I mess with something in my VX Commodore I'm forever worried I'm going to snap yet another silly little plastic clip. My dash fascia is just about held in with nothing but hopes and dreams, it's kind of hilarious.
Very nice job! Back in the day Repco used to be a serious auto-parts producer. Shame the quest to make everything to a price-point means enshittification.
Happy New Year Matey!! I am off tomorrow morning taking the V8 BeaXT south 500km to the family farm! New motor does not have 2000 miles yet so looking for a nice drive!!! Looking foreword to this years videos!!!
Hope you had a nice New Year, all the best for 2025! Just did a radiator and water pump change in my FG. Replaced the tensioner and changed all the pulleys to metal. I got the water pump from Repco here in NZ, so nice to see from your experience the pulley swap to metal is worth it.
Hahahahaha Sean lmao...the shifter. Scotty Taylor would love that one haha. As for the install of the IC7, it's a novel idea of mounting it, however, one thing to be mindful of is when driving it around like that, especially with how you have the display on an angle and un-shaded by the dash surround itself, sun glare can be a thing off it. Might want to watch out you don't get blinded by sun reflection off that screen. I personally think the install in the XR6 is slicker to be honest. Have you thought about removing the factory dash and getting a custom surround/mount made for the IC7 for the car? Don't get me wrong here mate, I'm not shitting on your work at all, I very much love the work that you do, just giving you some honest feedback. Love to see how the AU is going to turn out, living vicariously through you haha. Keep up the great work mate!
It's actually really good - no reflections on the screen and even if the sun shines down on it through the windscreen it's still nice and visible. Replacing the dash fully would be a huge job, as you'll need wiring for every single warning light or dash feature so the IC7 can see/use it.
@@MotoringBoxTV Ahhh yeah, fair call, sorry, hadn't considered that. Good that it doesn't reflect on you though!! That was really my main concern for you...bloody wouldn't want your face to get blinded while cruising haha.
Love how projects can change so much from the original vision... Didn't you originally say that you wanted this build to be "how ford would have build a AU Turbo"? Don't worry, I 100% get it though, if I had the money, I would be turboing my AU with all this cool technology!
It still will be engine-bay wise. The issue with the dash is it'd be useful to have a few readouts of various things - like boost pressure, coolant temperature, fuel trims, etc. So do you start throwing gauges in various places, or solve it all with a screen? The good thing is I can always take it out if I find a better option.
@MotoringBoxTV it's definitely a requirement in my landcruiser with the 1HD-FTE. Temperatures and pressures are basic necessities for the modifications to improve off-roading and towing, but mechanical dual gauges are all I could find that would suit the vehicle. This project is one of those 'feel good' stories, even though the end is still a fair way off
Hey sean, just a heads up about that pulsar turbo, i hope you have the Wastegate ported? Also i run the exact same turbo in my car, with the gate ported boost was perfect at 10psi until after a year almost exactly the gate died and is leaking vacuum. Personally i ordered a iwg75 because thats what the tuner recommended
All my water pumps were brought from eBay $50 dollar items with plastic pulleys never had an issue with one .i seen on eBay as well the under drive pulleys they were all alloy I want to try that set up because my Ute has a bad habit of slipping the clutch in second gear ⚙️ and doing burn outs and hitting 3rd gear and wrecking rear tyres and the AU donk hits quite high revs in the mayhem of fun under drive system slows the pulley drive down in the higher revs saves water pumps alternators power steering pumps and ac pumps
ED Falcon i6 - was running fine and could start up fine but stalled out started back up fine 3 times after that and idled fine for 5 minutes then stalled out and now when turning key to accessories throttle body clicks once loud, brown relay clicks then 1 to 2 seconds later clicks again and possibly the throttle body clicks again fuel pump relay clicks and starter relay clicks but fuel isn't getting to rail lines filter and pump are all working but isn't going to rail when priming and cranking doesn't start, smart lock / shield turns off, was running fine then stalled it can still go to fire with starting fluid but doesn't stay running as fuel isnt getting to the rail even though it was running fine before hand and before stalling out and start up fine 3 times after that then stalled out was idling fine for 5 minutes and revving fine then stalled out still has spark air and will jump up with starting fluid but doesn't run as it isn't getting fuel to the rails even through it was perfectly fine and running just before have disconnected the battery left it disconnected for a few hours charged the battery fully, if I touch the brown e.e.c relay with a screwwdriver or tap it with somthing it'll make something in the engine bay click and also clicks the relay and when I wiggle some wire not sure which wire or what but somewhere near the dizzy wiring or near the air intake or throttle body area somthing powers up sometimes basically the same sound as the fuel pump priming for 3 seconds but it's louder and it comes from somewhere in the engine bay. - Also When I turn the key to accessories the brown relay e.e.c clicks once then about 1 or 2 seconds later you hear another click and 1 second later click again but those 2 extra clicks from the Brown relay, fuel injector relay, e.e.c relay are alot quieter then the first initial click anyone had this exact issue?
15 years ago, Repco was virtually the _only_ place to get OEM quality, aftermarket parts for Aussie built cars. Now it is a crap shoot; got 2 FG power steering pumps through (brand new), both whined like a 2002 Commodore pump that was blown. Bit the bullet & found a place that rebuilds them with OEM quality parts (cost $200 more), no whine, no issues and they installed a steel pulley from the get go! Defs looks more subtle than the BA, looks neat & kinda sleeper-ish tucked away

if you're worried about bits in the sump, fill the sump from the turbo hole and drain it till bits stop coming out
You are truly the plastic bogan welding master.
I agree. I was thinking he bought the kit, but when he mentioned he made it, I was very impressed
Plastic pulley on Repco part ... Yeah nah ... Haltech screen looks great though. Looking forward to the turbo install 👍
Convenient that it lasts about a year before it fails so it's out of warranty too! Bet they spent some time making sure that would happen.

Next time try some Knead It from Bunnings. I really like it for stuff like this because it sands and takes paint like a champ.

Good job looks great better infront of you than off to the side like the ba

Hey we still can. It would be great to have a boost gauge in the near future though, so I'd end up with at least 1 gauge somewhere.
@@MotoringBoxTVit would have been a lot cheaper too.
Agreed. The dead gauge bugs me for some reason. LOL

Looks good Sean, dash location will be much better when driving the car.
Very nice job! Back in the day Repco used to be a serious auto-parts producer. Shame the quest to make everything to a price-point means enshittification.
Great work on the custom Haltech fit 👍
great work mate!
I love magnas and AUs
Nice work
the best part about the fairmont is the dash
Ford must of forgotten the durable plastic technology when they made the ba/bf with the top triangle dash piece though
super clean install, definitely will be handy having the ic7 in the car as opposed to the 2nd coolant sensor
Happy New Year Sean. 👍
Happy New Year!

Hope you had a nice New Year, all the best for 2025!

Hey, cool to see you again
Nice car tech preview!
Looks great Boss 💯🔥
For the sump, are you just gonna pick up a second hand sump, get that modded, and then just fit it?
Hahahahaha Sean lmao...the shifter. Scotty Taylor would love that one haha. Is it possible to remove the factory ford dash cluster and replace it with the hell tech dash?
Can the sump plug hole or dip stick tube be used for turbo oil return with the right adapter "no drilling".

Don’t they have custom ic7 dash mounts for several models now?
They do, but they completely replace the factory dash.

If FORD Australia still makes and sells the OEM Motorcraft products, then use them on the AU.
All Tickford VCT's took super fuel (98 leaded)

Personally, all those flicking numbers would be distracting as hell, but nice job.
There's adjustments to slow them down, which I've been playing with. I also removed the decimal point on a few as it's too much info.

Using a $2500 ic7 vs an extra $60 coolant sensor isn't what ford would do. And it's not very budget friendly!
I just about an AU ute off family member for 200 bucks, 177,000 ks, good condition except for a bit of rust, my other car is KL Verada.
Repco sells inferior products and the tools to fix them? 🤔🤔.
Something something scam.
