While I was at the Tulum ruins, I saw people crossing over the ropes just to get that perfect “shot for the gram”. We were told by the guides not to touch the turtles, however that rule was broken as well....it’s important to listen and be respectful. It’s always important as guests in another country to travel with intention rather than for attention.

Shame. I was there for a wedding this place definitely has a special "vibe" to it. Unfortunately the streets are flooded with trash and the stench of poop especially when it rains.
Human beings are forever developing beautiful natural areas and destroying them in the process. What we should be doing is not developing the area but developing outside of it the people can go see it without it being destroyed.
That happened already. It was Cancun for years. Then too many people so it started to move down to Playa del Carmen. Now it has moved further south to Tulum. Everyone who is familiar with the area says Bacalar is currently what Tulum was a decade ago. So I assume Bacalar will be the next stop of development.
This is why i don't vacation in 3rd world or developing countries. It's almost always exploitative, no matter how you look at it. The only exception i would make is if I went to the developing country my dad was born in. I'd probably still feel uncomfortable though.
Portapotties much?? I mean how hard would it be to install them everywhere in the jungle?? And hotels should just have composting toilets with cat litter.

Why would a toilet ever flush right into an aquifer.. jeez
Im trying to understand how it’s the tourists fault that the buildings don’t have septic systems. They probably don’t even know about that.
Once they do however, THEN it’s their fault.

I’ve traveled to Tulum and was an experience of a lifetime. I learned so much about the Mayan culture. I was so excited to see the ruins and get a better understanding of the culture!
Such beauty must be preserved at all costs for the future generations to enjoy!
Vice is like a journalistic steamroller that leaves casualties all along the road, from eco hippies and cellphone goggling bikers, to developers and drug cartels. All the while delivering balanced reporting and valuable, necessary insight to us internet folk. Fantastic!
Oh Tulum, prices like Monaco, streets like Senegal, and security like Gaza
You know 40% of phytoplankton has diminished since 1950. Its just a matter of time before we lose all phytoplankton, phytoplankton is almost 70% of our oxygen. Most of our oxygen, 90% comes from the ocean and phytoplankton.

How tf they don't have a proper sewage system in 2021?
Because it costs money and takes organization.... do you really think that a corrupt country like Mexico is going to do it? Why do you think that only 10% of facilities are hooked up to the sewage system?
Thank you so much for doing this film and highlighting how drug use and this form of partying can effect the environment we mean to connect to.

Thank you so much for exposing this. It breaks my heart that such a gorgeous sleepy town has turned into a tourist trap. Corporations and other money interests are killing the environment.
I lived in Tulum, and its the perfect example of humans trashing nature,.. and yes, there is cartels fighting over.. I was in a beach club and gun fires in front of my eyes.. in no time I was running away carrying my two toddlers.. scary moment..
First time I went to Tulum was about 12 years ago, crazy what's happened since then.
I went down there in 2018 with my wife, and I spoke to a taxi driver who said he likes the business tourism brings ..but his town is growing too fast for it to be able to be sustainable, and he regrets it became such a hot spot.
Ok... but as a Mexican economist there’s no waaaay 80% of GDP comes from here
I know, when I heard that I almost burst laughing. That woman is probably the biggest drug user in town, or her brain has been severely damaged some other way.
Although she didn't say from there, she said from tourism. But, still ridiculous since it really is about 8%
I'm sure the local wildlife loves pounding bass music
Shame. I was there for a wedding this place definitely has a special "vibe" to it. Unfortunately the streets are flooded with trash and the stench of poop especially when it rains.
The same thing happened in the Galápagos Islands. Heartbreaking.
Vice journalism has gotten so much better recently
This is why i don't vacation in 3rd world or developing countries. It's almost always exploitative, no matter how you look at it.
The only exception i would make is if I went to the developing country my dad was born in. I'd probably still feel uncomfortable though.
Portapotties much?? I mean how hard would it be to install them everywhere in the jungle?? And hotels should just have composting toilets with cat litter.
They need to treat their sewage, then they can put it back into the natural water system or continue to use the same water as long as it’s clean and safe
How are these Hotels allowed to be built without their own water treatment facilities? Maybe the Cartels should go into Construction Permits and Enforcement and do something good for a change... geez heartbreaking
I've always wanted to visit this place. But if the water is polluted, I won't visit. The whole point of going are the cenotes
Right? It's not like Mexico was ever known for clean drinking water.
@@samanthab1923
Thats not how it works Sheila. In Mexico tap water is used to clean stuff, for drinking water you use Garrafones. The infraestructure needed to have your tap water be purified before it reaches your sink is too expensive for the majority of Mexicans thats why tap water isnt used for drinking or cooking in most homes. I know your racist mind wont change at all though.
Good, one less polluting tourist.
Does this come as a surprise to all of you?

Responsible tourism means not flying anywhere. That's the very worst part of all this. Flying is the most destructive single act that people do
And no one, NO BODY wants to acknowledge this. Even my family who are otherwise extremely educated, self-aware and environmentally conscious people, especially in comparison to the "average" person, they refuse to acknowledge that the emissions for a trans-atlantic flight for ONE person is the equivalent of driving a car for an entire year. And buying "off-sets" doesn't make that just go away. This planet needs a massive die-off in human beings if it has any hope in being saved.
Wait wait ... if I visit a place and the toilet system flushes to the aquifer, that isn’t my fault. That’s YOUR fault. YOU built the plumbing with shortcuts and incorrectly from the start. There needs to be oversight and laws, rules, penalties.
It is heartbreakingly devastating how much we humans have damaged our precious planet 😢💔🌎
Stop destroying our home. It's all we have.
Muscles off the coast of Oregon tested positive for cocaine and opiates about 2 years ago😲
We really went and built a new area before we had proper infrastructure for sewage? Truly most people can't think half a step ahead.
It happens in most places.... that's why strong government regulation is needed, but you won't see that in corrupt countries like Mexico and most of the world.
I can’t blame the tourist in this instance it’s the developers and the owners of the hotels. How can you build a whole hotel with out a sewage system. They should have never been cleared are able to open without that.

Your last video said it was the trash and raw sewage that was ruining it

Bitcoin's fall was expected for some time because nothing goes in just one direction according to my mentor Robert C. Yet many people are seeking for stability in an unstable crypt0 space and A lot of people are wondering if now is a good time to buy or sell because of where the price is at right now, let’s not forget volatility is the sole nature of the market and hence there is nothing to be perturbed about. In fact, it's a very healthy correction and market participants should utilize this correction to buy more cryptos, with b!tcoin testing the 61.8 Fibonacci support level at $38,000,we expecting to see massive Bull run in the coming week, to Newbies and investors who want to get first hand analysis on trading the correction this coming week.
