How to answer: Why this firm?

  • "Why do you want to apply to our firm?"... This is one of the most common questions in the application form and it's one where I think a lot of aspiring lawyers could make their answer much better.
    It's easy for your answer to end up repeating all of a firm's awards and achievements back to them - but that's not what they want to see.
    A good answer to this question can show off your personality as well as demonstrating the research you've done into the firm.
    While I can't tell you why you want to work at your preferred firm, I'm going to go over a strategy that I'd recommend for you to use when you're faced with this question... to make sure you've got a well-reasoned and tailored answer for the firm every single time.
    I hope this video will help you out in your applications! Use the comments section to let me know your thoughts and what topics you want me to cover.

    Thanks so much for this. I’ve done a few apps last cycle but this year is the first year I’m really focussing on it, and I can definitely see that I was just regurgitating facts about the firm back to them previously!! TC apps are a technique to learn like anything else.

      Yes - like any other skill in the world, you'll get better over time. Hopefully from the videos you can learn from some of my mistaks instead of making your own!
      Good luck in the apps!

    I really appreciate the way you give example answers... its just enough to make me think about my experiences and how I would tailor them to my chosen firm. Thank you so much!
    Could you do a video about virtual work experience and how to tailor them to applications written for a firm different than the one that provided the virtual work experience?

    thank you very much!, what different areas did you talk about in your application ? e.g. diversity, innovation, etc,

    • @IdinSabahipour
      @IdinSabahipour  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to make it specific to the firm as much as possible, which meant that the answer differed across applications.
      For example, in my CMS application, I spoke about the firm's innovation a lot more because it was a quality I found that was quite unique at the firm.
      My latest video's about how to "tailor" your application answers to a firm, which might help you out with what to write for this.
