Great idea! I will pass this on to friends who don't sew and are looking for a quick and affordable option to change their couch. Only down side to covering the darker-colored couch and pillows with the lighter-colored dropcloth is that you can see the original fabric underneath. An easy remedy for that would be to first pin an old white sheet (or cheapie new one bought at the dollar store or thrift store) to the couch/pillows first, and then pin the dropcloth in place. The white sheet will usually hide the original fabric, no matter how dark or bold. Great job!
I should also say I’ve seen many tutorials on others peoples methods of the no sew pinning technique, and not to put them down but they made it over complicated. Your process simplified it -especially for someone like me with no upholstery experience. So thank you!!! I may actually be able to give this a shot
I love your technique of covering the couch. My daughter has a sectional and she wants the Cloud Couch look. THIS technique of pinning is EXACTLY what she needs. TFS
Doing this as we speak. By far the best no sew cover video! I have four kids, 3 boys 16 on down to 6, and a 3 year old girl, and I’ve had the same sofas for like 10 years probably. Dreaming of the day it’s safe to get my pottery barn slipcover sofa ❤️😂
Your method is elegantly simple. And it is beautiful. Years ago, I attempted something similar, but I didn’t know about Terrierists! Both our rescue terriers have been incredibly attracted to pins on our sofas, and delighted in disemboweling the store bought stuffed quilted sofa covers. Returning home from work, I would find wads of the fluff dotted around the living room rug. And, pinning spare sheets onto the sofas gave them their next thrill! They located, chomped to flatten, and yanked off all the pins they could, thankfully not eating, but only spitting the mangled pieces onto the floor. The struggle is real!
I love drop cloth projects! I use to do this when my kids were small but with bed sheets and upholstery twist pins. It would stay on even with all the jumping they would do.
I’m a sewer and I’ve discovered that sometimes we sewers go toward the most complicated method possible! Thanks for showing a simple way to accomplish what it has taken me many hours to do- and for inspiring me to, at least sometimes, go “KISS”
Get one...go to.estate sales and nEver pay more than 30 bucks cause walmart has basic one for like 99 bucks...then get a baby serger...usually about 99 bucks too...i wore my first one out...buy new only...they may be 150 now but worth every PENNY...i made so much stuff and a lot of money ...and i mean a lot..
This WAS my exact couch too! I just bought new furniture because ours was about 13 yrs old and well worn. I probably would have tried this before buying new had I seen this first. How crazy we all had same couch! The arms were even stained and well worn like this one. Gave to my nephew and should pass this video onto his wife. 😊
I just found your channel and I’m soooo glad I did! My sofas are 10 years old and the color doesn’t go with my decor. Like you, I don’t want to spend the money for new sofas and the sofa covers are so expensive. I never thought of using drop cloths! 😱 I’ve made my kitchen curtains out of them and now will use it for my sofas thanks to you!!! Thank you!!
Lucy knows she's just adorbs times a zillion! She gave perfect 😲 I wasn't prepared to be on camera today, my perfect fur is just a mess😘 She's a total ⭐
Honestly I can’t see either. I use to in high school but have forgotten how to do this is perfect for me. Our sofas are just a few years old but they are grey and I want to change up the colour a little so this is a great idea to change up the look. Thanks for sharing this video!
A little late to the drop cloth party! I bought 2 on a whim months ago. This is exactly what I will use them for. I have a sectional. I love it..the color no longer goes with my design style. Fingers crossed this works on fluffy arms! Thank you for your awesome channel!!
never thought of using pins, but I have used hot glue, which enables you to pull it smoother and tighter. It is more permanent than pinning though. Great idea!
Thank you for the tip's. I've been looking at new couches. But with everything going on. I thought maybe I should not spend that money right now. That's how I stumbled on to your channel. Boy, am I happy I did. I'm ordering the drop cloth today. By the end of the week I should be pinning and folding away...

I love using drop cloths to cover furniture ! However your tutorial made the whole project so much more simple ,even I can do that and come out with a neat looking couch 🛋 ! As you say we live in our house and the furniture is well lived on ! oh and I forgot we have 3 cats 🐈 also ! Love this video ! Don't know if anyone knows but family dollar stores actually have exactly same cloth drop cloths same color as Lowe's or anywhere for only a dollar each !!! Just a tip to get the drop cloth cheap very cheap ! I love this video though so easy I'm definitely using your method for my over expensive sofa I can't afford the slip cover replacement on my sectional so I'm doing drop clothes from family dollar for a dollar each I hope looks as good as your sofa
Thank you for sharing your brilliant ideas! I had done something similar a few years ago and I had forgotten what I did. I want to do this with two very comfy wide arm chairs that are so ugly!
Loved this! Thank you so much! I have a sectional that has seen better days, I have the drop cloths but have been putting this task off, thank you so much for the inspiration 😊💯
I definitely recommend using stitch witchery or a no sew bonding tape. You can even add an elastic with no sew on the skirt for around the bottom. You could do the same with the seat cushions so you don't have to pin. Go a step further and add double sided velcro cut your fabric to the exact shape as the front of the arms then stick them on last. Plus it would make it easier for when you wash them and have to put them back on. Great idea though. Especially if you love the shape of your furniture and it's still comfortable.
Love the look! I’d love to see a similar tutorial for a no sew recliner sofa cover- although this tutorial may have given me enough ideas on how I could try to do it myself. Enjoy the videos, please keep them coming when you can!
Thank you for this...I was just about ready to drop $150 for 2 king size quilts ( the 2nd 1 basically for the 2 matching shams...) I wanted grey's & yellows so this will be a perfect canvas for the corset I may be in the mood for at the moment. Ordering drop cloths now!!!.(& pins!)
Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what I wanted to do but all I saw on TH-cam was people taking the couch apart and I just knew it wasn’t necessary. So thank you for the video❤️❤️❤️
I wish you were able to bring the drop cloth down ( back rest area ) tuck it under and staple gun it down. I like your idea, great money saver, yep your a mom. I may use Velcro and make the cover for the pillows, like a pocket. You have given me so much idea 😉 Thank you.
I've done this with couches, but have a hard time with the wing back chair. I've been trying to avoid buying slipcovers for them because the fabrics dont seem nice. I made a pattern, but it just got too cumbersome. I'm gonna try again with the drop cloths :)
On my God that dog is so fricking cute! Please make a video of you making and fitting any kind of material for Lucy so she can prove she's a star. Or just get her to make her own videos...have for bones, a hat a Lucy scarf and a special soft pillow sweater bed cover.
Awesome job, I am duly impressed! I always admire anyone who can come up with great DIY ideas on a budjet. LOVE IT. That being said, I just subscribed . Love your sweet dog Lucy, she is beautiful. Thanks for sharing, look forward to next one. Cheers:)
I did try this method on a love seat. I live alone so I'm the only one that uses the love seat. I will say that at first it looks nice but over the months it does not hold up. The pins do not hold the fabric in a stable fashion. I will say that this gave me the idea that I could cover my love seat with this fabric but I will use a staple gun for some parts with a little sewing instead of safety pins.
Hi Laura! New subscriber. Love this tutorial. I will be checking more of your videos. I really like the way you use the drop cloths to cover your sofa. Blessings and take care. Mary
I can't help but notice the mural behind your dining room. Do you have another video on it or show it better? It looks really beautiful from what I can see. I'm so glad I saw your idea. This is exactly what I want to do. Thank you.
Thanks for this. I have really nice furniture that I have to cover up because of my cat. I don’t know why they haven’t invented a heavy stretchy kind of fabric. They are either too stiff or too thin. I have covered with drop cloths, but they look messy. I’ll give this a try!
What are awesome video thank you so much for showing how to do this. Your video deserves more likes than what it has at the moment, im sure you will have more. I'm definitely going to use your method is the best one I've seen so far on TH-cam
Not to hijack this wonderful video, but I have made a cover for a sectional before and it worked out great. Before I knew about drop cloth material, I bought exactly 15 yards of 60” wide quilted muslin. It amazingly was just a fit for my sectional. What I did was drape the fabric over the sectional wrong side out. Then I pleated and tucked and pinned where I needed it to fit. I sewed those areas where I had pinned. Turned the fabric right side out and worked it to fit. It was huge as one big piece but I was able to wash in the washing machine and dry it pretty good. I also want to note that washing it and drying it makes it softer so it helps. It amazingly comes out wrinkle free from the dryer. I don’t bother to bleach the drop cloth. I like the natural color.
@@SusanWymolaArtrepreneur how long to sew? Did you use a heavy duty needle? Heavy duty thread? Trying to think this through before investing time & money. Pinning onto cushions not an option with leather sectional. It's in great condition; just hate the color😖

Hello! Sorry, I don't knoow your name. I loved watching and learning from this great video. I used this technique on my own sofa. It turned out great. I am subscribed, but notice that you have not posted in about 2 years. Did you choose not to film videos any more? If so, I, along with lots of others will be disappointed, as you are very talented. If not, I wish you and your family all the best. 😇

You could make this easier to change in and out by adding snaps or velcro in place of the pins. That way you can take it on and off as much as you want, to wash it or whatever, and you don't have to constantly redo all those folds and pleats each time, you'd just have to match up the snaps (or velcro). It would also give the fabric a little more leeway so it won't rip. A lot of repeated force on fabric that's pinned can cause it to fray and rip, but snaps and velcro allow for more movement on something where people are sitting or laying. Especially on your inside out method, velcro would lay smoother than pins would and would be super fast. You could also go the opposite direction to make it more permanent. I know the whole appeal of this is "no sew" but you could tack the fabric in the spots where you pinned. It'd stay put and hold really well, closer to a reupholster. It's technically sewing, but it's literally just putting a few stitches in the same spot over and over with needle and thread, no sewing machine required. Super easy! Either way, this was a great, creative solution. You did a great job!
Love the look of the drop cloths. I wish I could do this with my couch, but it doesn't have removable cushions at all. I may need to try sewing and I really want to avoid that.
Just found your video! Thanks for the tips! I needed this! I'm about to cover a sofa and loveseat and I don't mind a little DIY. I do them all them time on my channel, but I've never done slipcovers. I like your results...both methods for the arms. New supporter here. Hope we stay connected! Take care and be blessed!
I am trying to cover my mother's sofa I inherited from long, long ago. Your idea and demonstation was so helpful. I am not certain which size dropcloth or how many. My mother's sofa is about 8 ft long. Would you be able to recommend how many and what length drop cloth? It has two cushions. Thank you for posting the video!
Excellent turorial! I am going to try this on my porch sofa cushions. Your dog Lucy is so cute, she loves hanging out with her Mom. I am subscribed but have not received any notifi9cations (must be a TH-cam issue?) I will continue to check out your videos anyway. Thanks for sharing, you have great ideas! Blessings to all
I would love to see this done on a sofa that has a stuffed camel back, instead of one with a flat back and removable pillows. I use the slipcovers that are sold in stores but they're pricey and never fit right. They're also often too thin. Thanks for the tutorial.

Great video! I definitely want to try this on my old sofa. I'm curious how many panels did you use for this project?
Same here, also what size panels?
Jennifer Skaggs in earlier comments she responded 4 x 15 panels
I was waiting for the panels or heavy rod to hold down the underseat part.
Cant wait to do this
Just found your video!
Thanks for sharing, I have been wanting to try this!
I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial! Very clear🤗
Blessings to all
Your channel popped up in my feed. I love it! Will subscribe looking forward to more 💖
I would love to see this done on a sofa that has a stuffed camel back, instead of one with a flat back and removable pillows. I use the slipcovers that are sold in stores but they're pricey and never fit right. They're also often too thin. Thanks for the tutorial.
Great video. PS I love you, Lucy!
You did a good job.
This is brilliant.
Looks amazing!
