If I remember correctly, the close-up of Adrienne on the ground covered in blood was not from the actual bridge but shot later, using the driveway of the house she lived in. They felt it was needed to show a close-up of her so the audience would know for sure that she was dead. This is mentioned in the extra material on my old dvd, but it's been a while since I last watched it. 🙂
Wow! This is incredible. Escape From New York is my all-time favorite movie. I am a massive fan of John Carpenter and think EFNY is among his finest work. I have never visited any of the locations this was filmed at so I appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this video. I don't think I would have ever picked up a camera if it weren't for John Carpenter. I owe so much to him. I even wrote him a letter when I was in sixth-grade. Ha ha. Anyways, thanks again for putting this video together. Great job!
Great video! 👍🏻 I live near St. Louis and was shocked to learn Escape from New York was filmed there! The brewery you passed was the Schlafly Tap Room--fantastic beers. Thanks for visiting St. Louis! ✌️❤️
Great job on this love this movie I'm from St Louis my mom met a bunch of the Crew as she was a waitress they came in and ate many times making the film .
The firearm Snake was carrying as his primary weapon was a MAC 10 chambered in .45 ACP. It was equipped with a Sionics suppressor. I shot one and it was an “interesting” gun to shoot. Side note; I hope to see you at SpookALA Tampa in October, my friend.
As a resident of Illinois living not to far from the bridge we’re they filmed .. absolutely loved your video in fact loving your St.Louis video’s phenomenal work. The detail and information you showed about the St Louis video is off the chart. Great job. Also if you. Ever get the chance you have to come to Alton IL just a little north up the river from the bridge. Alton is considered one of the most haunted towns in America and has been featured on several TV programs charting all of the haunting in the town. Alton has an amazing history and an amazing haunt history. Again amazing video series👍👍👍
Good video lads...love this film...Did you notice the similarity of the colour of the car sitting at the side of the road at 11.22 to the station wagon in the still of the movie...😀
That lot. When it wasn't vacant. The building caught fire. I met ch4 news woman Robin Smith covering the story. A year later I seen that plane on the lot. I passed it on the bus.
Brilliant video guys. My dad got this for us to watch in 1981 on our very first VHS video recorder. I was 10 years old and absolutely blown away by the film and watched it over and over again. Still fsscinated by it now. This video goes some way to feeding my fascination. One day ill get over there myself. Thanks again for this. Amazing !
Awesome video, Jay!! So happy you are covering things in St. Louis!! This video was very informative. I need to watch it again. Loved all of the locations you went to which I live near. Loved the coverage of the Chain of Rocks bridge and Union Station. 🤗❤️🤗
I grew up there and my father worked downtown at the time Escape from New York was being filmed. He went to a local hotel to pick up a visiting executive and saw Ernest Borgnine in the hotel lobby with another man and shook his hand and told him he was a fan of his and how much he loved Poseidon Adventure. Apparently the man Ernest was standing with was aggravated he didn't recognize him also and later dad realized it was Donald Pleasence. He still tells that story.
Wow! What a fantastic location video! I knew that the film was shot in St. Louis, but I think you’re the first person to do a filming locations video. Escape From New York is my favorite Carpenter film. The character, Romero is named after George Romero and the character, Cronenberg is named after David Cronenberg. Thank you so much for making this video. I truly appreciate your hard work and efforts with your filming locations videos (especially the horror film ones) I put you in the same league with Sean Clark’s location videos. Thank you Jay for such an interesting, entertaining and enjoyable video.
Excellent job on this! I thought I read or heard that the plane cash area had a massive fire throughout that left that area abandoned. It sure would have made it look realistic. Thanks for making this. Escape from New York is by far my favorite childhood movie.
Awesome! What a memory, I watched this on VHS, lol. My favorite Kurt movie is The Thing!!!! Can't forget Kurt's 1st movie. It happened at the World's Fair. He kicked Elvis Presley in the leg. As always thx 4 taking us all along on your adventure
The Chock Full O Nuts scene was shot at Indian Dunes studio set in Valencia CA. Great video Tampa Jay! My source is the commentary of the film by John Carpenter and Kurt Russel they did in 1994.
I’m definitely planning a trip to St. Louis to do a vlog on the filming locations of this movie! One of greatest action/scifi movies of the 80’s! John Carpenter is the goat! Kurt Russell is amazing as Snake Plissken! Thanks for the video!
Great work, gentlemen. Snake Plissken is a personal hero of mine and my daughters. It was a hoot to see those movie locations today, even though they look more dire now. God bless!
Excellent job! I immediately watched the film again. Very cool to see all those filming spots. I just found out when 🐍 Plissken was written in the 70s, Carpenter had Charles Bronson in mind. But then Kurt came along. Again, Great upload!
Bernardi suggested East St. Louis, Illinois because it was filled with old buildings "that exist in New York now, and [that] have that seedy run-down quality" that the team was looking for.[15] East St. Louis, sitting across the Mississippi River from the more prosperous St. Louis, Missouri, had entire neighborhoods burned out in 1976 during a massive urban fire. Hill said in an interview, "block after block was burnt-out rubble. In some places, there was absolutely nothing, so that you could see three and four blocks away."[14] Also, Alves found an old bridge to serve as the "69th St. Bridge". The filmmaker purchased the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge for one dollar from the government and then gave it back to them, for the same amount, once production was completed, "so that they wouldn't have any liability," Hill remembers.[14] Locations across the river in St. Louis were used, including Union Station and the Fox Theatre, both of which have since been renovated,[16] as well as the building that would eventually become the Schlafly Tap Room microbrewe
Kurt has often said Snake Pliskin is his favorite character that he played. I remember when they were doing local casting and were looking for people to play "The Crazies", as they called them. In the end credits of EFNY the strip club PT's Centerville just across the river gets a special thanks. Now we know where the crew hung out!
This was a a badass video man. I saw this a long time ago as a kid along with LA and it's been a favorite of mine since. Recent saw it on Freevee and man what memories it brought. Sweet movie. You did a great job doing locations along with your friend. Both did amazing jobs covering it. Tampa j is A Number 1
@TampaJay amazing job with this video man. John Carpenter is a legend and this is one of my favorites he did. Also, I want to say the Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr reference with the helicopter numbers was hilarious. 😆 I'm a big Nascar fan and it made me laugh. A couple of the best drivers in Nascar! 🤘🏽🏁
48:06 Saw a notification flag on your phone that Yahoo said Romero's sequel "Twilight of the Dead" starts production late 2023! That's the best easter egg seen in any of your videos!!
Not to long ago Union Station was a shopping mall...with a giant food court and the hotel was there...they would have concert's under the old train shed...was a cool place to go to and check out.... Then it closed up and kshe95 did broadcast from the old power house for the train station.... not sure if it's still there... Awesome video...i knew about the filming on the bridge but not all the other locations...you mentioned a murder on the bridge... My girlfriend at the time her dentist was the father of the Two girls that got thrown off the bridge by some asshole...i think there last name was Kerry....a real tragedy... Back to the video... It was very informative a pleasure to watch... Thank you!
i would hope you do an "ESCAPE FROM L.A.", next on your list of to do location videos, i so much love yours...i believe i have this movie on DVD, AND..Looking for the sequal on E-BAY..ALSO...there was brief talking about a sequal to the first two movies, but i have since heard any more hints to making one recently, it would be cool to snag "RUSSEL" for another round of SNAKE!
They had Cirque du Soleil at the Fox Theatre, if you've never seen them you should, they're amazing, all kinds of different acrobatic shows. Sarah Guyard-Guillot and Yann Arnaud died during live shows and Oleksandr (Sacha) Zhurov died during practice falling off a trampoline, makes Broadway seem pretty tame by comparison.
Wow, they've really fixed that place back up since it was set in 1987! And glad to see they clean out all the criminals too! For your sake anyways!!! lol
Wow that's really cool. I did not know that was the filming location. Neat how they took those streets and made them look like they did for the movie! It amazes me how you find all these details! Thanks Jay! Do you think you will go see the Rays play the Marlins in Miami later this month?
So an episode of ScyFy channels Ghost Hunters with the two Roto-Rooter guys, did an episode checking out the train station for Paranormal activity. It was a cool episode and they referred to filming Escape from New York there as well.
I met those two guys at a ghost hunt at The Stanley hotel in Colorado, where Stephen King got the idea for "The Shining". I asked them "When are you guys going to go to The Lemp Mansion?" (A very haunted location in STL). Grant looked at me very surprised and said " We were just there! ". They weren't allowed to say anything because the episode had not aired yet. They did capture quite a bit of activity. Nice guys.
Cool video but that's not the Capital building... hahaha... That's the old court house (where the Dred Scott case was heard). The Capital building is 2ish hours away in Jefferson City.
I've seen Queen laser shows at the Planetarium but that looked awesome on the ceiling too. It was only 5 minutes, you should have recorded the whole thing.
Interesting, a classic film, brilliant commentary , you must do hours and hours of research. Flamingooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooos
Kurt Russell tells the story how, when they were filming one night, he decided to walk a few blocks to the next scene. This was not a good idea, very crime infested... He became aware of people around him- so he turned, and snarled "What?". Supposedly the toughs took in the rough looking character with the eye patch and loaded down with big ass weapons and said " No man, we cool"
either dvd commentary or on youtube shows the makers talk about the movie. i remember the wall was made and assembled. the top of police command was a dam in los angles. they said only live scene in new york was the beginning with staue of liberty then it went to another set where police chief first seen. choc full of nuts was filmed in the dessert. the morning shot was at new york ealry moring
in the mid 80's Union station was turned into shops, restuarants, movie theaters and entertainment. The whole stations was jammed packed. And just like that poof, it went to hell. Its nice that there is some stuff to do there certainly not what it was.

I was just about to write the same thing. It says in the commentary track that it was filmed in Carpenter's garage way later.
You deserve a heart ❤️ from @Tampajay for that correction..
Don’t forget John Carpenter’s 5th movie with Kurt Russell was ELVIS. A 1979 film. So that would be his first with both working together
that was nuts! :-')
Not the Capital under the Arch, that’s the Old Courthouse, capital is at Jefferson City MO.
Wow! This is incredible. Escape From New York is my all-time favorite movie. I am a massive fan of John Carpenter and think EFNY is among his finest work. Thanks dude
Great video . Ernest Borgnine is one of my favorite actors.
I love you guys that do the Filming locations. Keep up the Good work.
Thank you

This is awesome 👍
Loved Kurt in his movie Used Cars! …he was also a very good Elvis in a version done in the 80s👍🏻
he did that movie right before EFNY.
Actually it's 5 Carpenter/Russell collabs. You forgot ELVIS (1979)
St. Louisan here, so glad you did this! Great stuff man
My father worked secondary as security on the film at The chain of rocks Bridge. He was a St.louis City Police officer.

The Chock Full o' Nuts was actually a set filmed in the desert, so it never existed on the actual street. Great video!
Thanks for the update I was wondering about that
Lived in the STL area for 20 years been to union Station many times when it was a mall. And driven past many of the places.
Cool filming locations Jay!
48:06 Saw a notification flag on your phone that Yahoo said Romero's sequel "Twilight of the Dead" starts production late 2023! That's the best easter egg seen in any of your videos!!
"You are the Duke.. you're A number one.."
💀 Thanks J, great volg. Enjoyed it 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you
Adrienne's death was filmed in the garage of her house in California. It was a pick up shot.
That’s amazing

great vlog of a great cult classic
Carpenter from DVD commentary: "We were filming in summer 1980, mostly at night. It was so hot. In fact, one night, it was 106 degrees."
Nice!
And where's the final point with the president and Snake climbing the wall? Nice video man. 😊
i would hope you do an "ESCAPE FROM L.A.", next on your list of to do location videos, i so much love yours...i believe i have this movie on DVD, AND..Looking for the sequal on E-BAY..ALSO...there was brief talking about a sequal to the first two movies, but i have since heard any more hints to making one recently, it would be cool to snag "RUSSEL" for another round of SNAKE!

Wow, they've really fixed that place back up since it was set in 1987! And glad to see they clean out all the criminals too! For your sake anyways!!! lol
1997 not 87.
38:00 The Adrienne Barbeau lying dead shot was actually filmed in her drive way after principal filming had wrapped.
That’s amazing
Wow that's really cool. I did not know that was the filming location. Neat how they took those streets and made them look like they did for the movie! It amazes me how you find all these details! Thanks Jay!

Just watched this last night lol
The water scenes were filmed in the sapovida basin in Los Angeles!
in the mid 80's Union station was turned into shops, restuarants, movie theaters and entertainment. The whole stations was jammed packed. And just like that poof, it went to hell. Its nice that there is some stuff to do there certainly not what it was.
❤😊
The dead Maggie shot was filmed in Carpenter's garage.
Don't Forget Jamie Lee Curtis Does The Voice-over At the Begining
My neck of the woods
Frank Doubleday who played Romero daughter is an actress!
Dale Earnhardt Jr was 7 years old when this movie came out. I don't believe John Carpenter knew he would be number 3 in the future.
I was definitely joking but wondered how old he was when it came out, thank you!
Right at the beginning you mentioned the Arch and then the Capital building. What capital? The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City.
my fav is actually big trouble in little china
Union Station was the main east west Station for troops during WW2.
the theater scene features roger bumpass, the voice of squidward, as one of the dancers..
I forgot about that. I remember Roger telling us that at SharkCon haha
The bridge scenes were on the opposite end of the bridge. The Missouri side
