  • In this episode Matt speaks with Scott Blackwood about healing their traumatic pasts. They talk about the impacts of relational and attachment trauma on their lives and how this led to Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), shame, low self-esteem and social isolation. They talk about how the unresolved trauma impacted their relationship with themselves and others and the steps they are taking to overcome this.
Here are some of the concepts they explored in this episode:
    1. What is trauma?
    2. What is CPTSD?
    3. The Neurobiology and Nervous system impacts of trauma
    4. Exploring how trauma shows up in us (trauma responses)
    5. Our personal stories of relational/attachment trauma
    6. The impact trauma has on the gay community
    7. Ways to heal past trauma
Most humans experience relational/attachment trauma over the course of their lives and it is important to be trauma informed so we know how to be sensitive and compassionate towards ourselves and others as we navigate our own trauma healing journeys.
Our hope is this episode will normalize trauma, and release any shame or stigma around having unresolved trauma because it’s a lot more common than we think.

Thank you Matt and Scott for sharing your experiences. I feel that I can relate 100% to everything you talked about. I am now experiencing the effects of trauma and trying to work through it. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a suitable therapist who can guide me but I am still searching.

It took me many years to find a good system of modality and people to heal my trauma. Still working at it actually. You are not alone and keep moving forward and the exact people and experiences you need to heal will show up when they are needed. Sending love to you on your healing journey ❤

I wish Scott had better active listening skills. Towards the latter part of the interview he cut matt off just to talk about his own experiences and other people in his life. There was no presence. It felt like he wanted matt to finish asap so he could talk again about himself. Clearly in his own process not Matts
It would of been nice if he could of showed more empathy to Matt thus allowing him to go deeper in his sharing.
In contrast Matt held space well for Scott.

Anyone else deal with male rage and queer meekness working hand-in-hand.
Please don’t get mad I said it like that. I just don’t know how else to describe my masculine upbringing with my queer trauma.

      Add on:
I’m describing the impotent feeling of not being able to fight back, despite the fact your mind has made a fist. It’s like flight and fight mixed together.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's valid to explore and express how different aspects of identity and upbringing intersect, even if it's challenging to articulate. Your honesty opens up important conversations. Take care. 🌈
