I came here after seeing your reaction to BTS - i like how you pointed out that Halsey and SUGA were having some kind of conversation on the very serious topic - about being an artist and all shadows that come with it.
I love that the song tied into BTS’s concepts at the time with Interlude: Shadow (also by SUGA), and Black Swan. The trio of songs spanning across multiple albums and artists is unique and I think will always put Halsey in a special place for all Army’s. It’s my favorite concept from the boys
that spoken line at the end of "Ashley" is actually a direct snippet/clip from the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004)
^^sorry forgot to mention, the movie is actually important in regards to the album because there's a character in that movie named Clementine...hence the song that comes after lol
The song clementine is about her battle with Bipolar depression, which explains why the emotional lyrics are all over the place
Halsey has endometriosis. It was extremely difficult to get pregnant for her. “More” killed me and still does. I could not be happier for her baby! Especially after that.
you don’t know how much it means to see you appreciate her with this level of honesty. she truly is a lyrical genius who’s survived so much. idk if you’ve been told that Without Me is also about how she was continuously cheated on (she does an incredible performance of it on SNL where she literally has all the things g-easy said to her written on the walls behind her) I hope you dive more into her work
Halsey and Taylor are actually really close friends, so I have reason to hope for a collab. It would be a lyrical destroyer.

Unfortunately yes Halsey did have a misscarriage when she was with g-easy(that’s why she says I’m so glad I never ever had a baby with u) and she was actually on tour at that time but her manager made her keep going because the show was too important to show, and she has endometriosis which makes getting pregnant really hard and painful. But I’m so happy that she’s having a baby with a man she loves now she truly deserves all the happiness in the world

The show that she talked about was for vevo on 2015 when she was dating the producer lido (also who produced more), she had 3 misscarrieges before this pregnancy
Her miscarriage was not with G Eazy it was before she dated him
She had 3 miscarriages (that we know of) before this pregnancy, yes the first was when she didn’t even know she was pregnant and had to get on stage for VEVO because she knew it would kick off her career more (Interview and her women’s March speech talk about it) and if you listen to her rendition of Solo, it sounds like one of those miscarriages was while she was with Gerald.

She has a book of poetry called “I Would Leave Me if I Could” that I believe is pretty devastating.

Honestly manic needed to get more attention then it got when it was released. People need to stop sleeping on her music
I think Covid affected the album. They had to cancel their tour. I was so depressed! It’s the only tour of Halsey I didn’t get to see. Can’t wait till Firefly festival! I was at the cursed Maryland show, and they are giving everyone who was there a free ticket to see them at the festival in September. I think it’s pretty cool that they are paying for everyone to see them, plus we get to see other artists all day. I don’t know many artists that would do that.
She’s criminally underrated because as soon as she wanted to be an individual artist and not rely on her newfound commercial success she was overlooked as any other women in or outside of the industry would be when it comes to speaking raw truth and telling her story. There’s a lot you missed but I’m sure you figured that out over time, a little piece to her puzzle. She’s gone in on a lot of situations and it’s intricate and it exists around a the medley of her life.
I just came here from your reaction to BTS' BE album. Halsey is a genuine fan of BTS. Halsey met BTS before BTS became big BIG in 2017 at the Billboard Music Awards. BTS is also very deep in lyrics.

And they are friends since Chainsmokers inroduced Halsey to BTS, because Chainsmokers did collaboration with Halsey earlier

Could you do a reaction to her recent album 'If I can't have love, I want power'? I would really love to see you react to it. Her lyricism and poeticness and just her overall growth, it's hundred-fold even more beautiful and captivating. I still kinda cry listening to that album
About “Forever is a long time”, she said it’s about this constant pattern that she goes through while dating. The first part is her excitedly gushing about this guy she’s currently dating. How she feels she can achieve anything when she’s with him amd he loves her so much he’ll bring her the moon. But by the time she reaches the “get the colors just right” part, her insecurities kick in and she starts thinking- this is too good to be true. It’s not true. When she says “just right” 3 times, it’s to signify her doubting herself . Then her entire mindset changes- along with the tone of the song and she’s like I need to dump this guy before he hurts me. Hence “talk to your man, tell him he’s got bad news coming”.

The Without Me lyrics are actually talking about how her ex wasn't having any success and she helped him achieve it and then he just explored her/ was an unthankful asshole about it
At the end of ‚Ashley‘ the speaking part isn‘t her, it‘s Kate Winslet‘s voice from the movie „eternal sunshine of the spotless mind“ which is Halsey‘s favorite movie. In the movie Kate Winslet‘s character‘s name is Clementine, which is the reason why the next song is called Clementine, it got inspired from the movie.
I’ve been obsessed with this album since it came out, and this blew my fucking mind. I don’t know how I never connected the title ‘clementine’ with the snippet at the end of ‘Ashley’ I even knew where it came from 😂

it's definitely an personal and exhausting album. it absolutely got me through my life when it came out when i wasn't in a good place so i get what you mean when you say it's hard to listen to when you're not in that place. hadn't listened to the album in full in ages until now lol!

She deserved Grammy noms for this - at LEAST for Without Me. It was one of the biggest songs of the year. This album in general didn't get the recognition it deserves.

A beautiful haunting dark and vulnerable album. Liked her previous albums but I feel like I know Ashley as a person more with this album and for that I personally like it the most. The voicemail of John Mayer talking about her best song yet tying right into the song he’s talking about (without me is a masterpiece) is such a nice detail.

When this album came out, right away my TOP favorites were “Forever…” “More” and “Still Learning” (excluding Without me because it’s been out for a while), this is probably my 2nd favorite album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is my favorite album. Cant wait to see you listen to that! Also, I appreciate you take time to listen to the lyrics and analyze each song, all while being completely honest!

Dominic's Interlude actually really is more of his style, his music has those kind of sounds and influences. I'd love for you to check out some of his stuff someday or his album. I loved his album (debut) it's honestly one of my most streamed albums ever. He's awesome and him and halsey are really good friends.

About SUGA's Interlude yes he is a bts member, one of the rappers, he also produced the song and wrote his parts, which are related to one of his solo songs, both bts and halsey are amazing with lyrics, they have an amazing friendship and they also have one song together called boy with luv from bts ep map of the soul: persona, it will be great if you can check it out🥺

It's great you have started listening to BTS! Halsey said that she was a longtime fan and their musical philosophy meshed well with hers. She introduced herself and brought 7 genuinely good men into her life. (Broke the ice with food, which was super smart. 😊) She has acted a little as a champion as they navigate the US press. They are close friends now - and they definitely didn't use her for a b-side feature and throw her away.

I listened to this last year for the first time, while in quarantine. I was very much not having a great time, which I feel made me connect with the álbum that much better. Ashley's vulnerability, the way she can outpour every insecurity in her soul just like that, it's even kinda healing for me. I only had think about it as self-deprecation, but I love the You call it accountability.
Yes, her raw honesty about herself it's probably her trademark as an artist. She's awesome
Maybe thats why I’m so attached to Manic. Because it came out right before Covid. I was going to buy tickets to the show, but then Covid hit., so I was majorly depressed because I’ve seen Halsey live since Badlands. I’ve seen them 4 times. I was so bummed to miss this concert, but grateful there are halfway decent videos here of the Manic tour in Europe. I’m seeing them for free at Firefly this year because I was at Maryland. No artist pays their fans to see them when a show is cancelled! Such an awesome gesture to their fans!

Me too! I’ve been a serious fan since Badlands. Saw them in Philly for the Badlands tour. They are incredible live! I get to see them for free at Firefly this year because I was at the cursed Maryland show! Not only to I get see Halsey live, they are gracious enough to pay me to see them. No artist does that! Just checked that you havent reacted to her previous albums, since you're in Manic, you're listening to an album that describes the tip of the iceberg, all her albums have connections to each other that Halsey fans would recognize when lyrics are comprehended thoroughly. I recommend you to listen to the albums in chronological order; Room 93 - BADLANDS - hopeless fountain kingdom - Manic. Idk if you'll get the same experience as i did, but hopefully you do since you mostly comprehend the lyrics and make connections
