You're a lifesaver, man. Did everything in this video and it fixed my heater and now it's running like a dream. Saved me money and a headache. Thanks so much.
This was my exact problem. Tube was clean and the switch would open and close. Wiggled a piece of wire into the base, reconnected the tube and started working again. TH-cam to the rescue again.
I'mma be honest, I don't even know why this worked for me, but it did. I didn't notice any clogs, but something about performing these steps got my heat back on. Thank you, brother
If the jumper is in place when you turn on the power you will get an error code. The pressure switch must be seen to be contacts open at the start of the sequence. It's actually the first step in the sequence of ignition and it prevents anyone from bypassing the pressure switch which is a safety switch that informs the circuit board that the vent motor is turning and that the venting is free of obstructions. Bypassing the pressure switch will give you one cycle. Once the thermostat is satisfied it will not start again until the bypass is removed. This prevents a wayward technician from killing his customers by trying to be a nice guy by circumventing a safety switch. By inserting a wire in the vent motor port you cleared the rust or scale that was blocking the orifice. Testing a pressure switch should be done with an inline manometer. This will determine if the vent motor is delivering sufficient vacuum to satisfy the pressure switch setting in wc. Very good tutorial for anyone who has a pressure switch error code just be mindful that the pressure switch is a very reliable component and the cause of the problem is usually something else... rusted vent motor blower fins, weak blower motor capacitor, blocked venting, etc.
Thank you for great input and your knowledge! And thank you for being awesome at delivering your knowledge in a professional way! I’m no expert by any means but my fiancé is pregnant and I was trying my best to get some heat 🙏🏼
When we taught this to our students one of the faults we deliberately installed in a furnace was to block the vent motor port much like you encountered. By splicing in a digital manometer the technician can see precisely what pressure the vent motor is delivering to the pressure switch. Testing a pressure switch by sucking on it is not representative of real world conditions. A small tear in the diaphragm can be easily missed as lungs can develop a much stronger vacuum than the vent motor. We stress that while a pressure switch can fail it is a safety and therefore inherently reliable. Safeties usually trip when an underlying condition exists. You demonstrated a very good troubleshooting aptitude and found your problem. Always good to have a happy wife.
Jim thank you for more knowledge! It makes absolute sense to test the switch with a manometer but most people probably don’t even know what it is. You make a very solid point that the lungs can develop more pressure than the switch and some diaphragm issues can be overlooked by this mechanical “test”. And it makes sense that the switches, being a safety device, are reliable units. My thought was that if you don’t hear the clicking, then it’s an indication that the switch is damaged inside more than just a crack in the diaphragm. You bring back great memories of discussing things with my college professors who often elaborated on things in great detail so I could understand, in depth, the concepts and mechanisms. It’s a pleasure to chat with a knowledgeable individual like yourself 🙏🏼 thank you! Happy holidays to you and your family!
I doubted this video after reading my control signal, just seemed too easy, figured id try it because ive got a 150$ service call coming anyway. Took the hose off the fan and the whole orifice was plugged with buildup. Cleaned it out and the furnace is back on. Amazing fix, super easy, couldnt be more thankful. Wife didnt even have to call my father in law. Great job!
This video helped me. When I lightly blew through the tube opposite the pressure switch, I heard the debris release and it working fine. Thank you so much.
Great case! I was scammed by a "good" contractor, who told me that I need a new control board. Actually, it's the blockage of the hose to pressure switch. He charged me $600 to replace the board, AND he cleared the blockage of the hose. He wanted to take the old control board away, but I refused. I later on figured out the board was good because I put the old board on and it worked! He never answer my call after that. I also heard that he scammed a lot of people around locally.
They all do it. The HVAC industry is one of the most corrupt out there. Better yet, just call your gas supplier first. Their calls are free and are part of your regular billing. I'm with Atco Gas, they would have cleared the blockage for free.
Yes they all do it SCAM people. One company s technician charged me $300 dollars for a capacitor. Probably goes for $5 dollars and probably didn’t need it. This was during a seasonal maintenance. It’s how much they can scam .

Thank you Leo. Thought that the pressure switch was the culprit and replacement the remedy, but after watching your video, and clearing the flow path to the pressure switch, Viola! The furnace is operating normally. I literally couldn't have done this without your step-by-step description of the potential causes of the a faulty pressure switch. Leo - We woke up this morning (Colorado) to 55 degrees in the house. My husband spent 8+ hours troubleshooting everything he could think of. Your video was the fix he (and our family) needed. God Belss you!
Bro you have no idea how much I appreciated this post. Mine was not the pressure switch but it was where the hose connects to the exhaust port. The port was completely blocked. Had to drive a small nail in there to open it up and bust through the hard crust since a wire wouldn't budge it. Now working smooth. I have no idea how it got so blocked. Go Dawgs.

Replaced and cleaned out dang near everything and still got the three light code until I saw this vid. Cleaning the pressure switch port worked like a charm! Fantastic job Leo!
Leo can't thank you enough brother! That was exactly my problem. The inducer motor nipple was clogged. It's almost 12:30 now and I been freezing my ass off since waking up cold at 6 am trying to figure this out. I'd pretty much given up until I thought about the pressure switch and then I found your video. You are THE MAN! ty so much!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. After replacing the pressure switch, cleaning the chimney, testing gas pressure, a paper clip and 6 seconds and my furnace is alive ! I appreciate the well explained procedure.
Thank you! Between you and another guy I figured it out. I cleared the pressure switch hose and cleaned out the other hose where the condensation drains and it kicked on. The pressure hose seemed clear so it may have been the other one. Thanks again!
Historic sub-zero temps in Denver this week and furnace wouldn't heat and my landlord is out of town. Watched 20 videos and tried lots of basic troubleshooting with no success before coming across this one. 3 min later my furnace is working like a champ. It was all about the clicking!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you!! You just saved me $180. I had a guy come by last month and do this for me and it took him all of 10 mins. I am gratified I was able to fix it tonight myself -- I just noticed it wasn't working at 10 pm, so now I wont be freezing overnight. Many thanks!
this video saved me $100's avoiding a service tech. I thought it was the flame sensor went bad. Ordered a new one and it did not keep burners going. The next step was learned from this video. I took the hose off pressure switch and blew into it to make clicking sound. Once I took hose off the nipple that goes in the inducer motor fan housing. There was a noticeable blockage of crap in the nipple. Took a wire and shoved it in and also blew thru hose into housing. After that, furnace burners kept working and heating the house once again. This video helped troubleshoot my furnace problem!!!!!!
♥🙇♂♥ You saved me more than a hundred dollars with this video 😭 - my furnace had the same error message on the panel with the same number of blinks; blowing through the tube and sticking a thin metal wire into the valve was enough to resume working condition 🙇♂ thank you for all the details and for explaining how you worked through the problem - I learned how to debug better 🚀
I'll add my thank you's to all the others. Just at dark on a cold Saturday we noticed the house getting cold. I knew it probably wasn't serious but didn't know where to start. Your video was exactly what I needed. I followed the steps, put the hose back on, flipped the switch back on, the flashing code went off and the furnace fired right up. You showed and explained everything perfectly. Thanks so much!
Today, I was able to pull off the hose from my pressure switch and see corrosion or just accumulated dust within the nipple that lead into the furnace. Using a thick needle I was able to clear the obstruction and reattach the hose. The very moment I restarted my furnace the heat came pumping through my house. This video completely helped me save a bunch of money and it literally took me 30 seconds to troubleshoot thanks to you... Seriously - Thank you!
This video saved me bunch of money. I had started replacing parts and nothing was working and I was getting desperate. But the paper clip trip actually works. Thanks !!!
This video is FANTASTIC. I had the red light blinking twice. Did what you told. But at first it didn't work though I could hear the diaphragm clicking.. Then took the second tube out and blew into it. Heard a gurgle. Sucked on it and a lot of water came out, obviously condensate which was blocking the tube. Sucked and drained all the water out till I could blow in and out without any resistance. Attached it back, the furnace went through the cycle, red blinking light went off, green light came on and now it works perfectly. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Ive told my wife not to call me an old fuddy duddy anymore.
My furnace went out last night, was 55 degrees in the house this morning. I came across your video and fixed my furnace. Thank you for the awesome video!!!!!💥💥💥💯

No idea what was wrong with furnace and getting a repair tech on a weekend is very painful $$$. So found this video which made sense and gave it a try. Ya!! Fixed issue and now got heat! Thank You so much for sharing this tip!
I had this error code today. Was afraid that I would need to call for technician. Did what is instructed in this video. Fixed the error code and my furnace is now running. Glad that I found your video. Thank you.
Thank you SO much for this video. Helped me understand more about the furnace's operation and correctly diagnose and fix the issue. You saved me a call the HVAC technician!
I can not thank you enough! Woke up to a cold house, furnace wouldn’t turn on. Did a little troubleshooting of my own, found my issue, found your video. BAM! Running like a champ again. House is nice and toasty! Thanks so much!
Thank you for showing where to look for the Indicator light and walking us through troubleshooting. I applied your advice and was able to get my furnace working again, thank you for making the video.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽! HUGE THANK YOU! I jumped right to the checking hose, pressure switch and inducer motor. The hose let out a little debris. The switch was stuck and clogged with something. I was working for a little bit until I finally heard it clicking. I used the hair pin to clear and debris in the inducer fan motor port. The area seemed gravely at first then it became clear. I put it all back together, turned it on and noticed that the inducer fan motor was slightly seized, then it broke free and the unit went through its process and kicked on. Know I know what to keep eye on and plan for replacements in the future. Really appreciate you sir!
I can't believe this worked. So grateful. I was freaking out and was watching many videos on TH-cam. I saw this one and tried it. My Lenox furnace fired right up. Thanks for the video. On my furnace three flashes indicates ( Burner failed to light, or lost flame during heat demand). Not sure what that means, but this did the trick.
My man! Thank you thank you thank you. Mine was stuck and the tube wasn’t long enough so I got a straw attached it to the tube and exercised that diaphragm like you said. Now I have heat for my little boy.
You are the man bro my wife and I got 3 kids and my youngest is 6 months old aswell as my sister came up for the weekend, man my house was freezing at 67 degrees i figured out it was the pressure switch searched for a video came across yours and it saved my ass thanks Brother God Bless!!
Awesome video, woke up this morning to a cold house 59 degrees, blowing into the switch was all it took, did not have to go as far as trying to use the paperclip for blockage, service call on a Sunday would have been pricey.
Blew through the hose, could hear the clicking, took the hose off, put the pin in the orifice to clear anything that might be there. Hooked it back up - heater is working fine thanks for the video. Just saved me a couple hundred bucks.
Legend. My heat had failed recently. I even did the initial investigation here showing the error codes and called an HVAC guy who just blamed my smart thermostat. When it failed again I came here and fixed it with your help.
Again you saved my ass Leo! Furnace was throwing up the code and not running. Took off the hose blew and sucked on it a few times to hear the clicking. Put er back on and voila! Thanks again man! You rock!
Thanks, man. This absolutely worked for me. Have goodman furnace. It was showing E0 code (Furnace locked out due to excessive retries). Tried your method, and it's working now, God bless you.
Thank you so much man. I’m in Michigan.Usually me and my wife use the fireplace but tonight it’s freezing temps (October). Turned the furnace on no luck. Tried flame sensors all that stumbled across this video and thanks to you me and my wife will be sleeping in a warm home tonight. Thanks again brotha
Thanks for the video. I’ve had this problem too and have been clearing like you demonstrated by blowing/sucking on the hose that connected to the pressure switch. My problem seems to happen on windy days. I’ll have to try cleaning out the inside.
We have also noticed that the orifice seems to get clogged by the build up when we go without using the furnace. Perhaps cleaning inside of the motor housing and ensuring that orifice stays clean would help.
Somehow, one end of my hose got disconnected. Fine, easy fix...it still didn't start. Cleared the hose and reset the switch by sucking and blowing. That worked!!! Thanks for the tip!
A great video sharing the furnace problem fixing ! Really appreciate your video and fixed my heater quick and save the money. You deserve a honor title of electrical tech !
Leo, you’re a genius! This fixed my problem. After doing a lot of diagnosis this was the last thing I did before calling a technician. Thanks for sharing this information!
Thankyou for this video. I was getting a similar issue with my furnace this evening. After checking the exhaust vent as that's what several google searches turned up for a probable issue with mine I stumbeled across your video. Took the vaccum lines off, cleaned them and re-installed and the furnace fired right up! Thanks again!!
Even though they tell you not to do this as it may ruin the bladder in the switch. I did it just like Leo said and it worked! Love saving money and NOT getting hosed for a service call on the weekend! Thanks a bunch Leo!
As Jim said in the comments, the switch is a crucial safety component and even though it’s working, I’d still replace it with a new unit. It will cost you about $35-40 and you can replace it very easily. Glad that the video was helpful!
Leo! All I can say is thank you and God bless you. I was about to order a pressure switch, igniter or igniter sensor. Did what you said and the furnace is up and running. Shout out from Ohio!
Thank you Brother you saved me from a cold night and a lot of time! I’m pretty handy found my code really fast and tried blowing the tubes but I didn’t know I needed to keep one side on and blow moving the valve! Thanks we fixed it! now my wife and kids can sleep with a heated house in Minnesota!
This seriously worked. Furnace was throwing a pressure switch error, so I took out the old one, blew on the tubes and the switch, used a paperclip to clean out the intake, and the thing fired right up. Thank you sir!
Leo, thank you for this! I had the 3 blinking lights and quickly ordered a new pressure switch then found your video, I did your step of cleaning the valve with a pin and that cleared any clog that might have been there. Same as you I could feel a little blockage give way when I slid the pin back and forth. Connected everything back and everything worked perfectly after this quick fix! Going to cancel that pressure switch order now!
Thank you !! That blowing in the switch thing worked! Tried everything before that and watched a ton of videos and you were the only one that added that. I appreciate you taking the time to make a video!
Thank you, Leo! So thankful for people like yourself who take the time to share knowledge to help. This was my problem and it's fixed now, sir! Thank you so very very much! Stay Awesome! David

Thank you Leo ! Great, to the point video with simple explanation. I was able to get it to work in 5 minutes. (I did not remove the wires). 1) Removed the tube and blew into it, 2) then blew/sucked after connecting the tube to the pressure switch and 3) cleaned the nipple using the pin and connected the tube back.
@@DrVJ-med awesome! Enjoy the heat!
My furnace went out last night, was 55 degrees in the house this morning. I came across your video and fixed my furnace. Thank you for the awesome video!!!!!💥💥💥💯
Fix works like a dream! Beginning of cold season in nashville tn area when I woke up to very cold house and no heat on a Sunday morning.
Thank you.
As a new home owner my stomach sank when the furnace went out and threw a code.
This saved my wallet! Thank you so much!
Great job. You helped me save hundreds. That was exactly what was wrong with mine. Thank you for taking the time.
Thankyou very much from Alberta, Canada! It was -5 Fahrenheit today here and this 5 minute fix solved my problem. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
@@tonykennedy1615 you’re very welcome Tony! Glad it worked out. Happy holidays to you also!
Thank you SO much for this video. Helped me understand more about the furnace's operation and correctly diagnose and fix the issue. You saved me a call the HVAC technician!
This worked! The simple instructions you provided allowed me to “exercise” the pressure switch which got the furnace running. Thank you!
I can not thank you enough! Woke up to a cold house, furnace wouldn’t turn on. Did a little troubleshooting of my own, found my issue, found your video. BAM! Running like a champ again. House is nice and toasty! Thanks so much!
Brother, you are very welcome!! Enjoy the heat! :)
Had the exact issue!
You are the best!!! It totally worked! Just blowed the tube out and plugged back in then turn it on then done! It worked!
Awesome!! Glad it worked!
Man I’ve been watching videos since yesterday, it’s 50 degrees in my house right now and this video just got my heat back kicking thank you🙏🏽
I can't believe this worked.
@@KingPhoey awesome job bro! Stay warm!
This video was perfect. The pin cleaned it. & now I have heat. Thank you!!
Glad it helped!
You are the man bro my wife and I got 3 kids and my youngest is 6 months old aswell as my sister came up for the weekend, man my house was freezing at 67 degrees i figured out it was the pressure switch searched for a video came across yours and it saved my ass thanks Brother God Bless!!
@@PatrickLettig awesome news man! Sincerely glad it worked out and y’all got warm! Happy upcoming holidays
Awesome video, woke up this morning to a cold house 59 degrees, blowing into the switch was all it took, did not have to go as far as trying to use the paperclip for blockage, service call on a Sunday would have been pricey.
You are the man. I am literally sitting here right now with a working furnace after watching your video. Thanks man
Blew through the hose, could hear the clicking, took the hose off, put the pin in the orifice to clear anything that might be there. Hooked it back up - heater is working fine thanks for the video. Just saved me a couple hundred bucks.
@@burneycreek3577 stay warm my friend
God bless you Leo. Trying to learn as much as possible from these videos because I just don’t have the money to pay a repairman.
God bless you brother. You saved me hundreds of dollars with this easy fix.
Legend. My heat had failed recently. I even did the initial investigation here showing the error codes and called an HVAC guy who just blamed my smart thermostat. When it failed again I came here and fixed it with your help.
Brother, happy to be of help. Enjoy your warm and cozy home :)
This actually worked!! I bought a new fire sensor and everything only to stumble upon this and it worked!!! You the man
From an hvac contractor for 30 years: nice work you are a smart man
Again you saved my ass Leo! Furnace was throwing up the code and not running. Took off the hose blew and sucked on it a few times to hear the clicking. Put er back on and voila! Thanks again man! You rock!
I cleaned the flame sensor. Then I did what you said. It fired right up. Thanks a three hundred man. LOL!!
Same situation in South Carolina. This video saved me a bunch of money since the HVAC contractor said I needed a new draft inducer motor
Thanks, man. This absolutely worked for me. Have goodman furnace. It was showing E0 code (Furnace locked out due to excessive retries). Tried your method, and it's working now, God bless you.
Glad I could help! Stay warm :)
Thank you so much I was able to fix my furnace it was the exact problem like you showed
Awesome! Enjoy the heat!!
Thank you, brother! Bless you for helping poor people like me.
This video just saved me a $70 hvac visit! Many thanks!
Thank you so much! I followed the steps and it started working again. You saved us from a very expensive service call on Christmas weekend!
Merry Christmas :)
Your video is a lifesaver! I blew into the switch, and that fixed the EE1 error code I was having. Saved me a HVAC service call.
Leo, you’re a genius! This fixed my problem. After doing a lot of diagnosis this was the last thing I did before calling a technician. Thanks for sharing this information!
Same for me! Thank you!!
It's crazy how many of us are commenting that we had this same exact issue. Thanks for posting the video. Def saved me some $$
Thanks for your video!!! The tip about exercising the pressure switch diaphragm saved me from having the contractor come out. 😊
As Jim said in the comments, the switch is a crucial safety component and even though it’s working, I’d still replace it with a new unit. It will cost you about $35-40 and you can replace it very easily. Glad that the video was helpful!
Will do.
Hey bruh, I know it’s been two years but your video was so so so so so helpful and it worked lol. Thanks and may Father God bless you
@@twonpaul1719 awesome bro! Enjoy the heat!
Thank you Leo! I was planning to buy a new switch until I watched your video. It was exactly my problem and I am now up and running! Much appreciated!
David
Furnace wasn’t putting out warm air the other night and did the paper clip method and worked! Thanks for the video was very helpful
Thanks.....this fix worked great for us and our furnace is working great......was just about to call an HVAC repair guy to come out after checking igniter etc and came across your vide......thank you again
Fellow GA person here. Good job on the presentation!
Solved my problem! Had to get my suck on for 10 minutes, but the exhaust vent melted out and solved my problem. Thanks so much!!
That was the exact problem with my Lennox ML 180DF furnace. It looked like some old bug bodies were clogging up the port. Thanks for posting up this video!
Awesome video! Just fixed my furnace watching this was 52 in my house and a low of 31 coming tonight. Appreciate it!!!
holy cow!! I have tried just about everything and was just about to call a repairman when I saw your video. And it worked!! thank you so much Leo!
Happy to help Darryl! Stay warm!
i had a slight blockage in my hose. Great video explaining things.
Voila ! few seconds after I turned it on the error is gone and it started working. THANK YOU !
Thanks a ton, friend! ❤
Your detailed step by step procedure of troubleshooting worked for me. There was gunk in the orifice as you showed.
