I so badly hope you read this!! I'm a single mom with 4 children, it was such a bad week and to top it off the furnace wouldn't get hot!! I checked the door, watched the light blink, then watched YOUR VIDEO and cleaned a possibly clog port (and yes gently blew into the little hose to check the switch without damaging the diaphragm) and SUCCESS!!!! I'll be honest I she'd a couple proud tears. Thank you thank you thank you. Not only did I solve the issue, you taught me so much about my furnace and that's invaluable.
I did see this comment! 🙂 I'm very happy for you!! Glad to hear the video helped you find and fix the problem! Stay warm and God bless you and your kiddos! 🙏🙏
thats awesome and yes. this dude is awesome....always always check youtube on videos first before calling a tech (watch multiple videos on same subject to get the best understanding of it)...you can at least rule some stuff out or confirm certian things are cracked, broken etc...
@@WordofAdviceTV Same tears I shed like Amanda Davies☝😭. Thank you so very much for your video. I saved money that i didn't have. I Lost my job and having to sell my house asap. Thermostat message read "low pressure switch open when heating" . I was wondering why i felt cold while painting 14.5C 🤦♀️. I exercised your advice and all is well now. Thank you so very much. Merry Christmas and God Bless you and yours sir!🙏
Same issue here. It’s 1 AM and I have a 3 year old and an 8 month old in the house. It was steadily getting colder and in 20 minutes I was back up and running. Thanks a million! Couldn’t imagine paying that weekend service bill so close to Christmas. Merry Christmas and thanks again!
One person who knows the behavior of each furnace from different vendors. A well articulated diagnostic method to identify the problems. Thank you very much for educating someone who doesn't know anything about furnaces.
You just saved me like $700+ and a freezing weekend and potential damages. Boom. Again this is the best video ever. Jay you make the best videos. You saved me before a few years ago. I don’t understand why your work is so under the radar. Bless you
I have an old system that has no codes. There was a crazy wind storm last night with 60+ mph gusts of wind and my furnace would make noise but not heat. After watching the sequence video and this video, I tried blowing into the pressure switch hose while it was connected to the blower motor. It was plugged. As mentioned in the video, i poked it with a wire and there you go. This video just saved me a bunch of money and time. Fixed my system with my multimeter, a scrap piece of wire, and most importantly the experience shared by the person who made this video. I sent a donation via paypal to say thank you.
Fantastic. This young man will be very successful. He knows his stuff, communicates exceptionally clearly, excellent personality. All the best in your career!👍
Hahaha Thanks Mr. Konesky! All I know I learned from my seniors, my wife does a great job of filming me and the video editing makes it seem like I am better than I really am. But I still appreciate the compliment! :)
Agreed I was thinking the same thing this guy has skills. Thanks for taking the time to do this. There’s a special place in heaven for people like this!
You, Sir, are THE MAN! I checked the exhaust and could see no obstructions. I checked the wires to the pressure switch and they were connected solidly. I pulled the hose from the pressure switch port and gently blew (no effect) and then sucked on the hose and heard a "click". My next move was to unravel a paperclip, wipe it thoroughly, and insert it into the pressure switch port. I felt some resistance in some areas so I ran it in a number of times focussing on the sides of the tube. I reconnected the hose and 2 minutes later the blower came on and I saw (for the first time in a day) a flame and then the burner lit! AMAZING. They wanted $185 to come last night - I told them I'd wait until Monday and pay $65 (and I have a service agreement! ). The house is warming up again and I'm cancelling the service call. THANK YOU! You are truly THE MAN!
This video has been among the most valuable I've encountered in my many years of surfing "TH-cam University." I have a Bryant furnace and it's been shutting down during a cold snap. I was getting the 3-1 code (pressure switch) and was just about to go out and buy a new one. I figured that had to be the problem, but watched this video just for the heck of it. Sure enough, I pulled one of the hoses to the trap and about 1/2 gallon of water came out of it. Thanks for the tip of having a bucket nearby! I would never have thought there was that much water in that hose. I pulled the trap out and sure enough, it was really clogged! One input hole in particular was very clogged and would allow water through it, so I used a small snake made for unclogging evaporative cooler lines and gently ran it through that hole. That finally got the water flowing and black sludge kept coming out. It took about 20 minutes in the sink to get the water clear and for it to flow freely out of all the holes. Just to deep clean it, I have the trap soaking in vinegar as I type this. I'll give it a final flush and reinstall. Thank you very much for this video!
OMG!!!! write after I read your comment, I tried that too, and guess what happen. Same crap for my case!! Thank for the answer Ricotinez and of course JAY!!!
Just watched this video and found the issue with my 3 year old Goodman It was a plugged pressure port Yours was the only video that mentioned cleaning the port Was about to give up and call for service Saved me a few hundred dollars and another cold night Thanks
Thanks so much for your clear advice! I have a Lennox G26Q4/5-100-6 with PVC pipe intake and exhaust lines. I was getting the pressure switch error code (right LED slow flashing), but only intermittently. That is, my furnace would try to start several times and then it would finally start. I learned (maybe a year ago) that I could get it to start reliably if I stuck my vacuum hose on the end of the exhaust line (increasing the exhaust airflow). If I ever noticed the house actually cold (which was actually rare, since it would usually eventually start up -- in fact we didn't even know that it was trying and failing), then I would go look at the furnace, see the pressure switch failure code, run out and put the vacuum hose in the exhaust, and it would start up. Did that for a year or two, actually. But following your advice I just went through your troubleshooting steps and finally found that the intake line was partially blocked right where it entered the furnace. There was a huge moth, some beetles, some leaves, some pine needles, etc. sitting on top of the grate that is at the point where the air intake attaches to the furnace. I detached the intake line, cleaned off the grate and the burner area, and it's working great. Thanks so much!! (p.s., I wonder why the air intake doesn't have a grate right at the end that is outside of the house. I think I'll add one.)
Currently an apprentice in the HVAC field and your channel has by far built me into a better technician I appreciate it. One tip though, doing a brief breakdown of everything you went over in the video at the end would be great. Thank man
My buyers home inspector found that the furnace wasn't operating when there was a call for heat. A pressure switch error was coming up. This video saved me hundreds by figuring out the issue myself. Turned out there was a tennis ball stuck in the exhaust line, restricting the venting. Thank you!!
You saved my Bacon! After almost giving up and calling in a pro, I watched your video and it led me to the pressure switch, which led me to the blocked vent switch. Reset the thing and now I have heat. Your videos are the best on the web for being easy to understand. Thanks!!
Your videos are awesome. We came home from vacation to freezing temp and a furnace/heat pump that wouldn't start. I ran through your top 10, error codes indicated low pressure sensor. Found a little rock in the line, didn't work. Replaced the sensor, didn't work. Then saw the segment about cleaning the port with a paper clip... It was stuffed full of debris. I used a Dremel bit at first by hand and found it so bad I used the Dremel itself. Life saver! I couldn't get anybody out here, add if I did I probably would have been charged a huge boatload. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WELL MADE AND VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS!!!
You are the best! Thank you for taking your time to educate the rest of us in such a clear manner. I am a 66-year-old widow and was able to clear a plugged pressure switch port. I had to try clearing it twice, but then it fired up. I found a small nail was able to break through the clog better than a wire. Thanks again.
I have watched a bunch of your videos , they are amazing . You have a natural gift for explaining things . I have just cleaned my burners taking especial care with the thin flame channel and the flame sensor . My furnace is different I had to remove the burner box ( the burners were held in place by screws ) . I replaced the single pressure sensor some time ago . It had failed ( the furnace is about 9 years old ) . I was naughty , I somehow managed to bypass the pressure switch for a couple of days only during the day , until a new sensor arrived . It was midwinter in Canada . I also have a component that I haven't heard you mention so far . There is a "J" tube that the condensate runs through before going to the drain . Having seen this video I am thinking of removing the inducer motor and checking the condition of those fins . A great big thank you for magically making complex things simple .
I don't know how to thank you, I have a 12 year old Keeprite high E. it has a thermostat with a display, today I see it throwing a fault" pressure switch stuck closed" now picture this, it's mid January, -12°C degree outside, my wife and I are over 70 years old in a rural part of Peterborough, the only thing I could do at this time is to search youtube for this issue , your video is the only one I watched, it clearly explained step by step where to look, what to do, so I did them all like you showed, you should have seen the smile on my face when I heard the furnace "CLICK" and started to run, I sincerely hope you succeed in your personal and professional life, and thank you.
You're welcome! This comment made me smile! I love to hear that you were able to get it fixed. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, stay warm sir!
You are seriously one of the most informative sources on youtube. You covered every possible scenario that could be wrong with my furnace. I believe it's a blocked intake since removing the cover allows the furnace to operate normally. I will pass this link along to everyone and recommend they use it as a reference before calling for expensive service. Thanks!!!
I hope you see this! I live in South Central Kentucky and we had a snowstorm yesterday (we usually never get much snow ever!). My heat went out today in my house. I was using my gas fireplace to help keep the house warm. It’s 15 degrees outside (62 degrees in my house) and I searched TH-cam and came across your video. I followed along your video, pausing and checking things as you went down your list. I was getting the pressure switch error. It ended up being that the port from the pressure switch where the tube attaches was clogged. But, I also think the intake vent might be clogged as well. Going to double check that tomorrow. As for now, the temp in my house is rising. Thank you so much for doing this video!!! It saved me a lot of money and made me smarter about my own unit.
$100 in parts and 3 frustrating days of trying to figure out what was wrong with my furnace. The culprit? The vent pipe was plugged up by a dried out wasp's nest. Would never have known that without this video. Thank you.
Thank you so much!!! I was prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for a service call, thank God they didn't call back, watched your video I fixed it in less than 10 minutes. Your the GOAT.
I have worked on the technical side of the automotive business my whole life. The competency level in that field varies dramatically. I have seen the same in many other trades. After watching a couple of your videos, I would conclude that you are among the top in your field. My Carrier furnace was flashing code 31, related to the pressure switch. My root cause was not one of the one's you or anyone else covered. Of the videos I watched, only yours provided the detailed design and function information that allowed me to fault trace a piece of equipment that I am not familiar with. I had 28 volts going to the pressure switch. When the unit powered up and the fan came on, I then had 28V on the switch output. I initially though that the switch closed due to excessive pressure. Armed with the knowledge I got from one of your other videos, I could conclude that the switch was ok and the pressure that the switch was monitoring was ok. That left the possibilities of the 28V signal not reaching the circuit board or a faulty circuit board. I followed the orange wire from the pressure switch and used the wiring diagram attached to the unit. It turns out my unit has an optional device called "auxiliary limit switch, overtemp, - manual reset". I had 28V going in and no voltage coming out. There was a small yellow button on it. I pressed it, it reset, and I my problem is resolved. I think it is great that you and others take the time to post informative videos to help others solve their issues and save a lot of money. Your videos are some of the best I have watched. Thanks,
Coming to express my appreciation for the video as well. Last night the furnace stopped working and I don’t have the money to pay to have it fixed so I started googling. Figured out what the error code was and then found your video. A plastic bag had flew up on one of the exterior pipes last night. I wouldn’t have even thought to check the pipes.
Very helpful, and I appreciate you giving the homeowner a chance to fix their furnace, even temporarily, when it's 30 below outside in the middle of the night when you can't get a repairman!
My husband and I are so happy to have seen your videos and learned so much about our furnace and fixed by cleaning out hoses cut off the cracked tip and clean out the little plugged up pipe. Thank you for your informative videos.
Hey, thanks so much for this very informative video. Just like the previous post, it was Xmas eve and the furnace was not keeping the house warm. (“The night before Xmas & all thru the house-everyone was cold, including my spouse”). The worst timing-all the fam home, contemplating the jacked-up service call on the holiday, not being able to get a replacement part until after the holiday, etc. etc.-the ruminating had begun. I checked the service code-“High-Heat Pressure Switch or Relay did not close or reopened.” I have a Bryant and tried the troubleshooting step of cleaning the condenser trap. Ba da bing ba da boom-how lucky did I get. I began squeezed the tubing to see if there was any backed-up water and the water began gushing out into the trap and then out to the pump. I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but was thinking that this just may be the problem & solution. I disconnected the condenser trap, cleaned it out as instructed, reconnected everything, fired up the furnace, and let there be heat. No more service code, I am several hundred dollars richer, and everyone is happy! You are a life-saver my friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This saved our bacon!!! For us it was a loose wire! You are so good at this! The way you communicate is 100% helpful! Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge!!!!
Thanks for the very helpful explanation. I was able to fix my furnace with just a paper clip. I also changed the filter based on advice from your other video. Everything works great now.
Jay - thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I had searched and realized I was dealing with a code 31 on my Carrier Weathermaker 9200. Once I knew where to focus my attention, I continued to search and found your video. Once I viewed it, I was almost certain it would be a clogged P trap. It was very clogged. It is now cleared out and everything is working as it should. You saved us a lot of money, since we didn't need someone to come out and address the issue. We're renovating a house we completely gutted and are in the process of putting back together, so saving what would likely have been at least $300 for a service call is greatly appreciated. Your videos are straightforward, concise, and you have the perfect voice and demeanor. Keep doing what you're doing!
I was able to fix my furnace by watching your video. One of the big hoses had wet rusty garbage, so I cleaned it out with a wire. Thanks for the video!
You sir are great! It's -18 degrees Celsius (0.4 degrees Fahrenheit) outside. Our house was down to 12 degree's celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) inside. The furnace guy had been out once last week and cleaned inside the furnace and that seemed to help, but then this morning we got up to this coldness. I watched your video, walked outside, and stuck my finger in the intake tube for the furnace (high efficiency). There was a build up of snow inside, that had blocked the input tube and this was immediately dislodged with my finger. Instantly the furnace out port put out a little burst of moisture, and the furnace has been running fine and brought the temperature up by 4 degrees already in about 15 minutes. Thank you!
I have to honestly say that you are the best in explaining everything. You should be teaching at a HVAC school! I can watch your videos all day. Thank you for posting your videos and please keep them coming!!!
I cleaned out the condensate trap on my carrier furnace. It worked! It’s working normally now. It was plugged, and you were right…. About a half gallon of water came out. Thanks so much for sharing this.
this is the second time your videos help me fix my broken furnace. i truly appreciate it. your videos are awesome! you should be teaching a class if you aren't already.
Absolutely the best diagnostic video!!! It ended up being a plugged pressure switch port. Cleaned it out with a piece of wire and works like a champ! So grateful to have come across your video. Thank you!!!
hey man- its' a Friday in 2024, and we are set to get negative temps in 2 days. I was in panic mode because I was getting pressure switch error, HVAC techs closed on weekend, and desperate. Long story short, THIS video saved the day by helping me properly troubleshoot, had me cancel an unneeded pressure switch order, and was able to find the intake plug and get things going. I can't say thank you enough.
You are the man! You explained all the possible causes extremely well. It turned out that there was a wasp nest at the end of exhaust pipe outside the house. Cleared it out, and the heat is back to work perfectly. Thanks!
This just saved me waiting a few days in the cold. It's Christmas Eve on a Sat, imagine how much I would need to pay to get someone here?! Watching this video and trying a few fixes resolved my problem. It was between blocked sensor tube or clogged drain pipe. Either way, the furnace is finally back up and running. Thank you for your very good instructions.
My Carrier Infinity 48XL-A worked flawlessly for nearly 10 years. Then, the heat would not turn on. Your knowledge, troubleshooting expertise, and excellent presentations gave me the confidence to attempt to make a repair on my own. After reviewing many of your videos, I narrowed the problem down to a bad inducer motor or a defective pressure switch which would not close. The solution was unclogging the pressure switch port....a very simple fix...if you know what you're doing. The port was filled with a hard, white substance that looked similar to dried mineral deposits. As you recommended, I used a wire with moderate-level pushing to punch through the substance. The fix was SUCCESSFUL! Thank you!
After watching one of your other videos, I decided to replace the switch because it was only $22, and was a super simple repair. However, after replacement, same double blink error code persisted. Then I found this video, and I decided to check obstructions. My exhaust pipe (90+ PVC exhaust) has a nice wire mesh cover, so birds weren't the issue. However, with a flashlight I could see it was full of mud wasp nests. With the inducer running, I stuck a rod in the end of the exhaust, and air immediately exploded mud wasp nest in a cloud in my face, as air came rushing from the pipe. Error code immediately cleared and the furnace fired up. The switch was doing exactly what it should do to keep us safe! Thanks for the guidance!
Incredible video. This helped me resolve my error 31 code without having to call a technician to come out and service the furnace. Thank you very much for both helping me develop a better understand of how a furnace works and also for providing me with information on how to trouble shoot the error 31 code.
These videos were incredibly helpful after I wasn't able to get an HVAC person to come or even call me back. Pretty confident I got the right part and this will save me a bucketload of money, plus now I know a lot more about the operation of a furnace. Thanks for posting these, they're very well done!
Thank you Jay, You sir are an excellent technician/teacher. Great video, once I found the LED indicator light (blinking 6 X's= pressure switch) I followed the steps outlined. I first tested the pressure switch as you instructed, it passed. Then I found the clogged pressure hose fitting, and cleared it, and decided to check and clear the exhaust pipe ( it had some wasp nest and carcasses). Re-installed, furnace fired right up. Thanks so much!
Thank you for all of this information. I woke up to a 59 degree house yesterday morning. I saw that it was a pressure switch fault. I gave the pressure switch a couple knocks and the hose a few squeezes and the furnace began cycling normally. Wake up this morning to a 61 degree house. I took the pressure switch hose off, blew through the hose, put a needle through the inlet on the housing and gently into the pressure switch inlet and it is now cycling normally again. I hope this has finally fixed it!
It's the first time getting cold this season - after hours and I was losing my mind trying to figure out what was wrong with my furnace. Your videos are a total blessing. Thank you!
You just saved me a service call. Low pressure switch problem, turned out a mouse chewed through the pressure line, shortened the line and re-attached it and I was good to go. Thanks a bunch!!!
I woke up to a non-working furnace this morning and just watched your video. The rubber hose attached to the pressure switch was loose .. presto it fired right up! Thanks from chilly Wisconsin!
This video is 100% responsible for my resulting troubleshoot & fix of my furnace. Condensate drain line was clogged, causing water to backup into the secondary exchanger/inducer chamber, which blocked the necessary suction needed to close my pressure switch. 👍 I owe you a case of beer, my man!
Thank you many times over. Our gas furnace was not coming on. I watched several of your videos on how furnaces operate and how to troubleshoot and narrow down issues. I then went straight to looking for an error code on the controller board; then watched this video once I got to the pressure sensor switch open code. After probing for proper voltages, I blew into the pressure sensor hose going into the fan/motor housing, and it was completely stopped up - no air movement. Ran a wire through the port, plugged the hose back in, and the furnace was back to working. Your hands on demonstrations and practical tips - like shorting out R and W to call for the heater to turn on - are very helpful.
Jay, thank you for the accurate and useful information to understand and help repair a furnace issue. This Sunday morning, I noticed our 12 year old High Efficiency Carier furnace making a running sound. Our thermostat showed 66 (set at 68). The main furnace blower was not running. I removed the furnace panel and didn't see flashing error indicators. However, I didn't get down on the floor to look into the little observation hole. So, I started looking at the many hoses and connections and discovered the condensate drain hose, severely bent. I can't believe it was built this way, but maybe through the years the strength of the hose weakened and could no longer support the sharp radius bend. I went out to my local auto parts store and bought a foot of rubber hose to replace the old one. Thanks for the tip about cleaning the condensate trap. I removed mine and used an old drain cleaning snake (like a large pipe cleaner, that worked great). There was not a way to attach the photo of the hose and cleaning snake, so I added that as my picture for reference. Thanks again from a past TV repair guy (with BSEE) Gene
I want to thank you so very much! 2 days ago we spent nearly $400.00 for a company to come out and replace a $20.00 transformer. Guess what the heater stopped working today. I truly want to thank you for being unselfish and helping me and others right now in need because of the virus and inconsistent work. You saved me probably $100s of dollars not to mention getting my wife off my back about freezing....LOL! Thank you again. Kevin Mc Millan
This video helps me finding & ruling out the causes of my furnace not heating. days ago my furnace just did not work with 3 flashes on and the outside temperature was below 30s. I did some research, found this video ( watched Jay's other videos before and trusted him). Following his suggestions, checking in & out venting pipes, cleaning condensate trap/pipe, testing pressure switch with multimeter and finally end up at inducer motor. Ordered a new one right away and replaced it a day after. Boom, my furnace began to blow the warm air again. Thank you Jay. Save me lots of time & money. you are the guy know your stuffs and help others.
What a great, informative video! Wonderful job of explaining everything with all those little extra things to look for that others do not tell you. Very helpful. Thank you so much , and keep up the great videos.
Just wanted to say thank you!!! The step by step troubleshooting in this video is great. It was super informative but also easy to understand. TWO thumbs up to you!!
Great explanation on how to trouble shoot, diagnose and provide potential directions for resolution. First time firing up my furnace with temps below freezing this year and it started showing a three blink pressure switch fault overnight. Found that my HE intake pipe filter/grate at the top of the unit was blocked with debris from a wasp nest built over the summer by some mean bees. Nicely done my man... you sir are going to go far in this world.
My furnace was flashing low pressure switch, and the part is obsolete.. No replacement parts, need to buy a new furnace I was told earlier by a tech.. $6500-$8000😮 Cleaned all the connections, then found this video.. The pressure port was completely clogged! Pushed thru a piece of tie wire and it's working perfectly.. Thank you so much brotherman, you saved me big time👍
Great video, once I found the LED indicator light (blinking 3 X's= pressure switch) I followed the steps outlined, found the hose damaged, cut off he damaged part, re-installed, LED light solid red, furnace fired right up. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for your video! I have a 30 y/o Carrier High Efficiency unit that was shutting off after a few minutes. Condensation is a big thing with this unit, and it turns out the induction motor hose had a ton of water in it. Drained it, cleaned the condenser trap which was plugged, and away it went! I was resigned to replacement, and that is on the horizon, but for now I'm delighted!
Incredible guide and step by step instructions for fixing a pressure switch issue! I was able to fix my Goodman furnace that had a pressure switch fault code using the steps outlined in the video. I have a high efficiency furnace and my issue was with a plugged condensate trap. It was very much clogged with water spilling out so I removed the hoses and flushed out the ports and boom everything was fixed! Jay, you are awesome my man! I just subscribed and will be telling everyone I know about your great do-it-yourself videos! Thank you so much!
Thanks I had a company come out and tell me my furnace was fully busted but by reading the error code and seeing it said furnace pressure switch stuck open and following your methods to find out the problem it seems the tube for the drain on the inducer motor was backing up into the inducer motor housing and leaking out on my control board. $100 for a new board, a new inducer clamp and trimming the drain tube so it no longer bends upwards worked. Thanks for this video. Saved me $4700.
Thank you again for saving me $ on a service call! Came home to a cold house. My system was flashing "pressure switch stuck open." Watched this video and checked the pressure switch port on the inducer by unhooking the tube from the pressure switch and trying to blow/suck through it. No air was going through. Ran a wire through it to unplug it. Now working! Thank you thank you thank you!
This is by FAR the most helpful video I've ever come across when trying to trouble-shoot any home repair/maintenance issues! I had issues with my high efficiency furnace, and tried multiple things that didn't work before finding your video. Most other videos only showed how to fix one problem. This was super helpful...thank you!
Hi Jay: One of the best video on pressure switches, however we are seeking more of your knowledge on pressure switches; Can you please do video on: 1- When you have two or more pressure witches how do you know which one is bad? 2- the difference between two ports and single port pressure switches with respect to testing? 3- the difference between two terminals and three terminals pressure switches? 4- Can you use three terminals pressure switches for two wires and simply not to use the common terminal? 5- for two terminals, does it matter which wire connected to which terminal. Thanks for all your help, you are currently the best on UTube with respect to HVAC.
-15 outside and the furnace just stopped. Followed all your steps that I could and the heat came back on. Thank you so much!! You saved us from a very tough night. 🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯
I've been troubleshooting many other things both for work and at home my whole life and immediately knew that this was going to be extremely helpful. You covered a lot of ground in a very short time. I was not disappointed! For me the pressure switch would not release until I removed the tube on the condensate side. I'm pretty sure I'm going to find that it's time to replace my 30 year old furnace. The good news is that I was able to get the heat running for now, the inside temperature was getting pretty low. I need to poke around some more to see what I can find but I'm pretty sure I will need to call in the professional's for a total replacement. Unfortunately, from experience I know that it will be best to checkup on the work they do, they all are not as good as you are. For instance while troubleshooting this problem I found that the C terminal screw for the common bus side of the 24Volt transformer was at least a turn and a half loose. Not sure how it has worked for so long. Thanks Much
Dude I need to send u a donation ASAP, u just saved me a trip from spending 200 bucks on a draft inducer that wasn’t even necessary. Omg ur a freaking lifesaver.
@@HelmutBchron your definition of being cheated is quite interesting. I am used to people performing a service for someone prior to feeling entitled to payment.
Thank you very much for your instruction. My pressure hose tube was rusted and blocked. I removed the rust and cleaned the tube. My furnace is running again. Great video. Thanks a lot again.
How come you know so details. You are a genius man! I am able to fix my furnace after watching your video. Your wife is lucky having you, such a nice gentleman.
As a Christian, I can't help but express my gratitude for those that take exceptional effort in sharing their insight with others that truly need it. Of all the how to's I have viewed, I can't remember a more thorough one than this.
I had an error code on my Furnace for the pressure switch. I watched your intuitive video on error codes and traced the cause to be condensate built up in the drain line, backing up into the vent motor which caused that motor to labor to run and trip out the system! I am truly thankful for teacher/Techs like you for sharing these incredibly helpful videos!!
MAN!!! You the MAN... My hose port to the inducer fan was clogged. I used a piece of wire and stuck it in there a couple of times and WaLa, it fired right up... Thanks, You the MAN!!!
I can’t thank you enough for this video. I replaced just about every part in my fiancé’s 23 year old Amana/Goodman 90% heater, but it still wasn’t working and the cause was a pressure switch- which I had already replaced. I replaced the induction motor a couple of days ago and I tested the system. It ran for 37 minutes and 28 seconds then cut out. The blink coach indicated the pressure switch - - i.e one of the ones I had just replaced. I was about to call a repair person when I watched your video. After I saw the part about the condensation, I said I’ll give it one more try. I pulled One end of the hose hose off the pressure switch and pointed it down outside the heater. About an ounce of water came out. I pulled the hose off, blew it out with Canned air let it sit for a while on the sun to dry it out. I reinstall the hose, crossed my fingers, and fired the unit up. And it did fire up and is running perfectly. The thermostat was satisfied in the unit shut down, but I am running the circulation fan only for about six or seven hours to make sure that all condensate is out of the unit. Thank you so much for your brilliant video.
I truly appreciate your work here and the valuable info you give. Thanks to you I was just able to rule out a number of problems and get my furnace back up and running in minutes instead of having to wait until a furnace tech could come look at it. I appreciate the time and money you saved me, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much.! My Amana furnace fired up and running. It is -11C tonight in Toronto and I had no heat for the last 2 days. It was E2 code which is pressure switch. I did all the steps from your video except electrical testing :) I checked all the pipes outside,, disconnected and cleaned all the drain tubes, used a paper clip to clean inside those ports. I did "blowing" test and I did hear a click inside the switch. I gently moved all the wires and connectors. I don't know what exactly I fixed :) , but my furnace is running! Thank you. P.S. I am 55 years old women with no knowledge of any kind of mechanical stuff. :D
Excellent! Came home to newer furnace not working. Ended being the water trap clogged. Thanks to this video, we’re back on!! Minnesota winter Also, you should be on Patreon...would like to donate some $ for your information
I'm happy to hear that you got it fixed, stay warm! I don't do Patreon since it is geared to make people commit to monthly payments. Last time I checked, they did not have a one-time donation feature or it was just hard to get there. Don't want to push good people into recurring payments. :) I do have a PayPal donation link in my video description though, for those who insist. Thank you for leaving a comment!
Saved my life again - thanks man. Furnace trouble at -5 F and Christmas eve. Video saved me misdiagnosing a bad pressure switch when it was snow packed down in the inlet line.
My heating was cut off at midnight! Called a 24/7 line and they wanted me to wait till the morning although they didn’t wait to let me know that they will charge $$$ for the visit. Ha! It took a bit but I have managed to follow your instructions and double check everything. Furnace is now fixed and is firing like it’s supposed to! I almost shouted out loud at 2am. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You rock! God bless. Will be watching all ads till I fall asleep.... haha
Fantastic video. So well explained, well done. Helped me diagnose a pressure switch hose that had cracked because it was too short and was stressed because of bend that was too extreme where it was connected. $3 part and it's fixed. Thank you so much!!
Thank you Jay . helped me solve my problem. Pressure switch wasn't working because condensate was backed up all the way up my outlet pipe due to ice forming at the exit from the house..

You are not a victim

He won’t be successful because he makes diy videos so everyone will fix their own furnace and he won’t go on service calls…😂
@@Slavelife9279Yea I thought about that too.😂
Then again a lot of people are more lazy nowadays.
Jay is the best in the West and the whole U.S. He explains things SO WELL AND SO THOROUGH. He's the best instructor I've seen in my 75 years.
OMG ... you are very, very good. You deserve all the positive comments in this thread. Well done young man. You will make a difference in this world.
You have, in a span of 2 weeks, helped me fix both my dryer and my furnace. Thank you for making these videos! You explain things so well!
and my wife has been very appreciative! 😉 Thank you sir!!
Man, that was thorough, simple, and concise! Really well done. I am an hvac service tech and this is as good as it gets imo. Nice job!
Just watched this video and found the issue with my 3 year old Goodman
It was a plugged pressure port
Yours was the only video that mentioned cleaning the port
Was about to give up and call for service
Saved me a few hundred dollars and another cold night
Thanks
I'm heating and cooling men and I really admire your big heart to share this with the people God bless you
Thank you! May God bless you and your family as well!
Thanks!!
Happy to hear you got it going! Thank you and stay warm! :)
It is 2 am and I got my furnace working again because of you. It was a plugged condensate trap. Thank you so much for your help!
You're welcome!! Glad you were able to get it fixed, stay warm!
Thanks!!!
I so much wish he would diagnose my furnace !!
Thank you.
Is this on your 80% furnace. Is this the pipe on top of house
Thanks
This saved our bacon!!! For us it was a loose wire! You are so good at this! The way you communicate is 100% helpful! Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge!!!!
Thanks for the very helpful explanation. I was able to fix my furnace with just a paper clip. I also changed the filter based on advice from your other video. Everything works great now.
Excellent! Glad to hear that. Have a Merry Christmas!!
This is the most thorough coverage of furnace problems I have seen so far.
david
I love to hear that you were able to find and fix the problem! Thanks for taking a minute to leave a comment, stay warm man!!
Thank you for your very good instructions.
it seems like every winter I have to come back and watch your videos!! You have saved my life 2 times now!! thank you!
Thank you!
At 11:30 on a Saturday night in December it stopped working and was able to get it running again! Thank you so much!
Excellent video. The level of detail and delivery are superb. Thanks so much.
I owe you a case of beer, my man!
Your hands on demonstrations and practical tips - like shorting out R and W to call for the heater to turn on - are very helpful.
you are doing God's work young man...
Thanks again from a past TV repair guy (with BSEE)
Gene
You're welcome! Glad you found the video helpful! I appreciate you leaving a comment.
Woke up to a 50 degree house in -4 degree weather. Followed this and got the furnace back on for now. Thank you!!!!!
You are an absolute gem!!! Thank you for helping me...I had a clogged port. Bless you!
Woke up to a cold house. Had my condensation trap cleaned, my furnace running, and enough time a cup of coffee before work. Thanks so much!
Best video on this error !!! Well done! I could repair mine without any problem just following these steps.
You fixed it! Loose wire after switching out the blower motor this summer. I was going CRAZY trying to figure it out. THANK YOU!
You're welcome! :) Glad you were able to find and fix the problem! Stay warm :)
You are one of the Best People who describe the problem,
GOD BLESS YOU
Abe
This is by FAR the most helpful video I've ever come across when trying to trouble-shoot any home repair/maintenance issues! I had issues with my high efficiency furnace, and tried multiple things that didn't work before finding your video. Most other videos only showed how to fix one problem. This was super helpful...thank you!
Hi Jay:
One of the best video on pressure switches, however we are seeking more of your knowledge on pressure switches;
Can you please do video on:
1- When you have two or more pressure witches how do you know which one is bad?
Thanks Much
Thanks John! Glad you found my video useful :) Good luck with the furnace!
Dude! You just saved me so much money. Every other repairman video SAID what you SHOWED. Thank you sire.
Dude I need to send u a donation ASAP, u just saved me a trip from spending 200 bucks on a draft inducer that wasn’t even necessary. Omg ur a freaking lifesaver.
Agreed, i am sending money too.
puke. I’m that guy you cheated out of 200 dollars....lol.
@@HelmutBchron your definition of being cheated is quite interesting. I am used to people performing a service for someone prior to feeling entitled to payment.
@@lorenlgray that was a poorly worded joke
@@HelmutBchrongot ya! Now I get it.
Thank you very much for your instruction. My pressure hose tube was rusted and blocked. I removed the rust and cleaned the tube. My furnace is running again. Great video. Thanks a lot again.
Thank you so much you help me fix my furnace at 4:30 am in the middle of winter in Chicago.
Nobody cares that you're a Christian lol. What a weird way to start off a sentence.
You're most welcome!! I'm happy to hear that you were able to get the furnace fixed! Stay warm!
I can’t thank you enough for this video.
I replaced just about every part in my fiancé’s 23 year old Amana/Goodman 90% heater, but it still wasn’t working
and the cause was a pressure switch- which I had already replaced.
I replaced the induction motor a couple of days ago and I tested the system. It ran for 37 minutes and 28 seconds then cut out.
The blink coach indicated the pressure switch - - i.e one of the ones I had just replaced.
I was about to call a repair person when I watched your video.
After I saw the part about the condensation,
I said I’ll give it one more try.
Minnesota winter
Also, you should be on Patreon...would like to donate some $ for your information
You're welcome brother! Glad to hear that Christmas was saved! 😄😄 Merry Christmas, God bless and stay warm!!
Hi John
How did u unpack the snow down in the inlet line?
Thanks
You are the man!!!!
Watched 4 or 5 of your videos and it helped me diagnose and fix my furnace problem.
Will now be a subscriber for life!
You rock! God bless. Will be watching all ads till I fall asleep.... haha
Haha I'm happy to hear you were able to get it fixed yourself! Thanks for coming back to leave a comment! God bless you and family as well, stay warm!
Fantastic video. So well explained, well done. Helped me diagnose a pressure switch hose that had cracked because it was too short and was stressed because of bend that was too extreme where it was connected. $3 part and it's fixed. Thank you so much!!
Called a technician already, but want to know worst situation. Found this very informative. Thanks
Thank you for your videos. After your troubleshooting videos, I was able to successfully fix my AC and furnace. Great videos! Keep them coming.
Thank you Jay . helped me solve my problem. Pressure switch wasn't working because condensate was backed up all the way up my outlet pipe due to ice forming at the exit from the house..
