You had me at "I have no rhyme or reason to what motivates me with quilting..." because you're a true creative. I am the same way. Eclectic. Yeah....thats the ticket.
Love your videos. Always look forward to new ones. Thank you. I love working with wool and appliqué and embroidery. Love primitive quilts and projects as well. 👍💓
I've just discovered your Channel. How happy am I? Very. Here in South, Texas, I did not do a lot of wool work. Too hot, even in winter, at times. However, since discovering the joy of wool work for quilts and applique, I'm hooked, literally. Pioneer Quilts shop, has the wool I want for hook rugs and gifts. Love being an arm chair traveler with you.
I am glad you found us and are coming along...I can guarantee you armchair travel will be financially better than mine! LOL...There are so many wonderful quilt shop!!!
Such a sweet comfort to watch you work while I spin wool for a sweater. I’m really happy to have found you this week! I hope you and your family are safe and well.💙💓💙
I just discovered your videos and am so happy I did! What a wonderful teacher you are - I agree with Sandra Henderson that you are so down to earth and real - so lovely! I wish you a safe and happy trip away!
I got such a Kik out of you talking about your tongue. I do the same thing and even my grandchildren have picked up the habit. It's good to know I'm not the only one. I found you today for the first time thank you so much for your tutorial
Hello Anna, my name is Diana I live in Massachusetts and I just binged on your vids!!! Thank you so much for sharing your skills, your so funny and welcoming that after awhile I was running around looking for pieces of fabric to play with. Although I love all your vids my fav are the tutorials. Again thank you and G and of course Enzo! Oh and congrats on your new addition can't wait to see the projects for him !!! Diana
Thank you so much for joining us on this fun adventure. There will be more tutorials in the future for sure...right now I am gearing up for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and the baby!!!! We are on countdown mode!
Hee hee hee, I almost woke my sleeping hubby giggling at your intense cutting stance! 😋 You'll be proud, I followed your instructions when prepping my woolie! We are rebel appliqué placement buddies! Make it how we like it! 💕
Hi Anna! I just found your video on accident today, it was really great! I'm one of the three owner/sisters of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine, and we are so happy you love our magazine! I'm with you....if I use a fusible web, I love the "Soft Fuse," and just recently had a chance to use the Shape Flex before Christmas, and love it as well! Good advice to your followers! As for the thought of reversing the patterns.....I see what you mean...but we would have probably just as many if not more customers that would not want them that way. So its kind of hard to make that change. But I certainly see where you are coming from! It was very sweet of you also, to explain how we are all human, even in the publishing world! If you ever get a chance to show another of our patterns, and you find a mistake, we do put the corrections up on our website! Thanks so much for the little plug....it put a big smile on my face as I sat in my sewing room working on the next issue! Happy quilting! Jeni
I am so glad you found me...I am a big fan of your publication. It is the only magazine I subscribe too :) It is good to know there are corrections posted and I'll share that...most of the time I just go with the flow and figure a work around, LOL. I always find at LEAST 3 pieces every issue I want to make! Keep on publishing!!!
Thank you! I'm the same way..I just figure out what to do, or add my own spin! We are glad you love the magazine, and we'll keep trying to find great designers!
Haha! I think my whole sewing room would just about fit in your stash closet! Thanks for the interesting tour...it's fun to see how you use your space!
I am with you - I have no rhyme or reason either why I choose to do the quilts I make! One moment I want to make an art quilt and then I have a burning desire to make a flannel log cabin quilt! Another great video and look forward to your on the road videos once you jackhammer out the RV :-)
Yes! Oh I really liked your wool appliqué tips including using that 101 interfacing on the back. I subscribe to Primitive Quilts magazine but I have yet to make any of their wool appliqué projects! I probably need to take a class with you someday!
Love that you said it's 'ok' to steam even though the directions said no but along with it being shown that it really does work convinces me. Thanks for dispelling this along with other myths. And it wouldn't work if you didn't stick your tongue out too ! Now that is important information that the directions left out. Also grateful about the light brown micron .01 pens to trace with. Love ya girlfriend.
Muchas gracias Ana.
I love how you are so down to earth and real!!!!! Enjoy the journey- and pretty soon it will be in your rv! Yay! I know you are so ready for that snow to melt. I don't think we will ever get much snow again here In the smoky mountains of w n.c. I always learn so much from you! And your camera guy does a Great job! He's not gone on strike once either!
Pps Yeah publishers!!!!! What she said!!!!! Uh huh I agree Don't make us go to the mattresses ! Lol (I'm channeling meg Ryan in sleepless In Seattle Or You've got mail - Can't remember I think it was the shop girl One. You've got mail)
I am sooo Glad to have found your channel!! You are authentic and creative, I just adore your energy! I have shared your channel via my social media outlets
I have a box full of wool packs, various colors ect, that my sister has given me over the years. I have always said i wanted to do something with wool. Thanks to your video, i swear I'm going to try. First thing i have to do is find the soft fuse and the SF101,just as soon as this latest snow starts to melt. I'm sooooo tired of this. I live close to you, so have the same weather.
oh I feel your pain...today it has turned into a mushy mess. G drove over Santiam and said it was 42 degrees!!! I'm with you...so over it! You can get the SF101 at JoAnn's. The Soft fuse is either at a local quilt shop or mail order...have fun!!!
A Johnson hello! I'm new to wool also, but I just wanted to tell you that SF101 is at Joann fabrics and I also found Pellon wonder under there. Anna had said in a past video that it was just as good as the soft fuse. It is available in 5 yards and also one larger roll, maybe 10 yards. I bought 5 yards and it was really reasonable, plus I used a coupon. just thought I would let you know! I don't have any quilt shops near me, which might just be a good thing! Lol! I would spend my life savings if I did!
One other wonderful way to transfer your embroidery to your cloth is with press and seal product from the kitchen. Place it over your embroidery pattern, trace it then press it onto your fabric. All you do is embroidery over it and then pull it away when you’re finished. I love doing it that way.
I'm not really a "wool worker", but you make it look so enjoyable, I might just have to start,,,,great, another trip to my LQS! haha,,,thanks for your tutorials, Anna!
OK! OK! you have made hand stitching look so fun and rewarding. I am officially going back and pick up my needle and thread and get so of that warm glow you have when you talk about hand stitching. I am putting on a two-year plan to come to your home town for that beautiful quilt show. Question how is your quilt journal coming along? Thank you for all the beautiful quilt shops you and G take us (me) as a rider as a passenger on your youtube channel.
Yeah!!!! you won't regret the peaceful time of hand stitching! I look forward to meeting up with you in 2 years! I am horrible at keeping up with a journal but I am going to keep trying. I love having you as a you tube passenger!
Anna, So nice of you to share the info about our Light Tables...we haven't raised our prices in over 20 years :) Do you still have the clamps that came with the table? If not I will send you some more, they are handy for holding down larger projects. I am so thankful you introduced me to SF 101 in one of your older videos. I use it all the time now, so thank you ♥♥♥ I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos and G's tunes.
WOW...I am going to put that info out on The Quilt Show this coming Wed. on the Anna & G On The Road Daily Blog. I don't have the clamps...in fact I can't even remember having clamps but I must have...that would be awesome because I am going to be tracing a Crabapple Hill design later this month and it is much more detailed. G loves it when someone mentions his guitar playing :)
Send me the address that you would like the clamps sent to at margie@mesew.com and I will put them in the mail. Thank you so much for posting the info on The Quilt Show on the Anna & G On The Road Daily Blog :) It's so interesting to me...when I hear G's familiar tune at the beginning of your video it automatically puts me in a peaceful mood and I'm ready for learning and fun!!
Ooh Anna that design is so sweet thanks for a lovely vlog ! Also thanks for heads up on Buttermilk basin BOM have downloaded the Ist one hope you get a thaw soon to alleviate your cabin fever mind you. Your getting a heap done warmest Mary
This was INCREDIBLY helpful! I love that you were so thorough and went into every detail! It was the best video on prepping I've seen. The only other question I have is what type of needle do you use to embroider? Do you use a certain size and/or type for different projects or elements in a design? I hope that you thaw out there and can get back on the road, I really enjoy watching vloggers of your adventures on the RV trips! Thanks again for sharing all of your tips and tricks, I will definitely be putting them to good use!
I usually use a #5 Milliner's needle for hand embroidery. I do change my needles depending on the type of project. For stitching wool I use a 24 chenille and if I am doing fancy Sue Spargo type stitching then I may change up to specialty needles for thicker threads. Thank you from checking in and coming along on the adventure!
Thank you for another really well done video - you make me feel like I'm sitting at the table, maybe sippin' on some wine, while you show me what you are doing. Lovely, lovely videos! May I ask what your favourite stitch is for your wool applique, and what type of thread you prefer?
I do feel like I am sharing with some wonderful friends. For my primitive wool projects I use either a whip stitch or blanket stitch. One of my favorite creative stitches in the Bullion stitch..love it because you can make bumble bees and lady bugs :) I love Valdani threads and Sue Spargo's thread but if I can find the right color I'll dig through my DMC!
Hello from Heppner,Or. I love the wall quilt with the Sewing machine on it.(white scrappy back ground.) love it where can I find it? Thanks again Anna for a great video.
Anna thanks for another great video. Always learning something to apply to all my many UFOs. In the last couple of videos I do not see your longarm machine, have you moved it?
yes I did...all the way back to the shop. I traded it in for a Sweet 16 which arrived after this video was made. I guess life changed and I wasn't bonding to the long arm like I did my former one and decided to get a quilt machine that you sit down at. Great throat room and I am liking it already even though I am at the beginning of the learning curve. Thank you for hanging out and taking the time to watch the videos!
That is an adorable pattern! What year is that issue from? I enjoy all your videos and love everything that you make! Wishing we had some of your snow here in the Midwest...ice, not so much! 😉
I so enjoyed getting my Primitive Quilts magazine but it`s too costly to get it in New Zealand now. I am hoping to get this as digital, see how I go! I photocopy the pattern if on both sides of the sheet, that way I can turn it over for reversing the design.
I noticed that some of the wool packages my sister sent me were wool, but some say wool felt. So can I use the wool felt. It seems somewhat stiffer. Also, does the wool charm squares have to be felted?
you can use wool felt but it is not my favorite because it is stiff and the color are pretty flat. usually when you get wool charm squares they are already felted.
Love this little quilt 😊 A few questions...I've seen penny rug artists use freezer paper to iron on before cutting....is this the same, and if I cannot find Soft Fuze would freezer paper be sufficient? My wool is not a loose weave so I don't think it would fray when I'm pulling it off. Just not sure what the difference is between the two. Also, when you work with SF 101 for a throw or bed quilt do you feel it, is their a stiff part to the top? I want to make a wool appliqué throw for the first time (due to you inspiring me) I have so much wool and I love Buttermilk Basins designs, I'm just not educated at all in quilting. Thank you for responding, your such a big help
No the freezer paper method is different than soft fuse. With freezer paper once the motif is cut out you have to pin the pieces to each other. Soft fuse is a fusible and the pieces are ironed and stuck together. It also gives a slightly different look...all preference...and just so you know Soft fuse can be ordered online if you don't have any in your area :)
Are you using wool-wool, or wool flannel? I am not familiar with using wool and hand embroidery so i will need to google. I'm checking online stores and i see wool flannel--and then joans has wool that is 35% and then felt. What do you recommend and where can you shop for this? is is washable? thank you :)
I am using wool but I also like to put the wool on cotton. It is best to start with a small kit because everything is provided. Check out the mini mats on www.buttermilkbasin.com/ it is not washable
I'm new to the wool word, what type of wool do you use in your projects? I have seen people glue and staple their project - not fuse- this seems much easier :) Thanks for sharing
I love hand dyed wool from various quilt shops but have been known to by old clothing and felt it also :) Sue Spargo uses pins and glue...me...I'm a fuser but the look is a bit different...not as puffy :)
I have used steam a seam light2 and that worked but then they did something to the formula...give it a try on a test piece...and maybe it will work out!
Quilt Roadies I did try it and a little hard to stitch through. I ordered some soft fuse should be here Tuesday, along with a huge order from Stacey west. Oh the stitching I have ahead of me. Lol I think I should say thanks and I do thank you but at the same time I want to send you a raspberry! Lol Blessings , Pea
Hi Anna, me again!! I'm re-watching your wool prep videos getting ready to do my first wool pieces I purchased from Buttermilk Basin (Thimble Blossoms Summer BOW #2 and #7). I have a question........ I know what Soft Fuse is and how to use it, but are there different weights of Soft Fuse? I did some cotton applique a while ago (with Heat & Bond Lite) and it seems very stiff. I don't know what it will be like once I wash it. But it sure isn't to my liking. Oh!! One more question, you say to use serrated scissors to cut the wool, right? I'm really looking forward to hearing from you and thank you so much for your help. I stick out my tongue, as well, when cutting anything, including roasts!! Cut so thin your relatives will never come back1! LOL (remember that one?) Thanks again!!
Soft Fuse comes in only one weight and it will not be stiff. Be sure to steam it on both sides of the wool :) I use Kai scissors the serration is very fine. most important...have fun!!!
Many thanks, Anna. You're always so helpful. Glad you're back and have a great time with your sister and grandchildren. I'm a little out of sequence here but that referred to Sept. 30th video!! LOL
When you are tracing your pieces on the soft fuse trace them on the sticky side and then the pieces will be facing the right way and not mirror images. What exactly is the wool you use, if it is not wool felt then what is it? I take it the edges do not fray.
clever :) it is 100% hand dyed wool that I pick up at a variety of shops...I like it better than the felt. since I use soft fuse I don't get any fray :)
all of it has been felted either by me or the quilt shop I bought it from. The only time I have unfelted wool is when I get second hand clothing and then I wash and dry it :)
Thanks Anna....I'm asking because I'm new to wool. A few years ago my mother-in-law brought me back a few pieces from the Harris Tweed mill in Scotland that she visited on a tour. it's time to do something with them 😊
OMG how cool is that...for sure! I bet it is beautiful. Google how to felt wool...there are all kinds of instructions and probably for specific types of wool.
He reads, plays guitar, hikes...a little of this a little of that and he is a great day dreamer. I don't stitch for long periods of time because we are usually off checking out the area :) When we are at home...he and Enzo are big time hikers.
You had me at "I have no rhyme or reason to what motivates me with quilting..." because you're a true creative. I am the same way. Eclectic. Yeah....thats the ticket.
I’ve watched this three times & I never get tired of doing that. You are such a great teacher.
Thank you so much!
I’m a year late to see this but Anna is still the best....🧵🥰
Love your videos. Always look forward to new ones. Thank you. I love working with wool and appliqué and embroidery. Love primitive quilts and projects as well. 👍💓
I love combining those 3 techniques in one project...they always looks so cute! Thank you for viewing!!!

jackhammer is right! LOL but this warmer rain might just help!!! Isn't it nice that the quilting world gives us so many choices!!!
Yes! Oh I really liked your wool appliqué tips including using that 101 interfacing on the back. I subscribe to Primitive Quilts magazine but I have yet to make any of their wool appliqué projects! I probably need to take a class with you someday!

such a bummer about postage! I think more and more designers are offering their patterns as PDF files...makes sense.
Love this little quilt 😊
A few questions...I've seen penny rug artists use freezer paper to iron on before cutting....is this the same, and if I cannot find Soft Fuze would freezer paper be sufficient?
Quilt Roadies thank you! I'm off to find it (and Sue S. Book 🙏 they have both) at a quilt shop here
Beautiful!
one of my favorite wall hangings...now to get it quilted!
I did find the soft fuse at BJ's. Wow it was really expensive! It was a yard wide.
how much was it? They sell it at Sew Many Quilts. I buy a 3 yard roll and it last for a while...plus it is a great product.
Check out the mini mats on www.buttermilkbasin.com/ it is not washable
what was the soft fuse you use on wool. I have always wanted to work with some wool, watching your videos I will try it. :-)
It is Soft Fuse and comes in a roll with several large sheets! you will love it!
HI Anna, do you think steam and seam light would work the same for wool? I have some of that
I have used steam a seam light2 and that worked but then they did something to the formula...give it a try on a test piece...and maybe it will work out!
Quilt Roadies I did try it and a little hard to stitch through. I ordered some soft fuse should be here Tuesday, along with a huge order from Stacey west. Oh the stitching I have ahead of me. Lol
I think I should say thanks and I do thank you but at the same time I want to send you a raspberry! Lol
Blessings , Pea
Do you know where I could get that pattern?
it was in a Primitive Projects and Quilt mag I think but I can't remember which one....
Beautiful Anna
Hello Anna; I am just viewing this vlog. I can't find the soft fuse and is it double-sided?
if you can't find it at your local quilt shop I have ordered it on Amazon. It is double sided and very light weight...good luck!
Another great tutorial Anna....that really is cute....a question....is the wool you use pre felted or do you felt it yourself 😊
all of it has been felted either by me or the quilt shop I bought it from.
I am watching this video 7 years too late. I would love to make that spools quilt too. Do you know where or how I could get that pattern? Thank you
I am not sure but it may be a Buttermilk Basin or Primitive Gatherings pattern🙏
Hi Anna, what happened to your long arm. It used to sit in front of your windows in the sewing room?
traded it in for the Sweet 16 decided I liked it better :)
My sister use to bite on her tongue when she was doing anything like this, too!
LOL...it makes things work better
Can't find the light box
www.mesew.com/ this is the light box I use :)
What does your husband do on the road while you are "stitch'in" ??
He reads, plays guitar, hikes...a little of this a little of that and he is a great day dreamer. I don't stitch for long periods of time because we are usually off checking out the area :) When we are at home...he and Enzo are big time hikers.
I love his music on your videos!!
he plays by ear...not me! some of the music is his own composition and some is off the Google royalty free music :)
$12 something a yard.
WOW...I buy a 3 yd roll for about $18
