I love watching your videos! I wish you could do one a week. Glad you are back from vacation and I wish I lived near you. You are an excellent teacher!
we do try to do at least one a week but sometimes life gets in the way, lol...maybe someday you can come out to Sisters and take a class with me at the Quilter's Affair!
So glad to see you back in the Bee Hive! I have missed your videos, and all your hints and tips. My wool applique is tons better now that I follow the Roadie's way to prep. Thanks so much for all you do!
Anna, thank you for using our quilter's light table on your video ♥ It was so much fun to watch your video and see you using our light table!! I called my husband right away to tell him!!! I now use Pellon SF 101 thanks to your recommendation. I have never tried Soft Fuse, so will try that too. Your videos are always so much fun to watch. I look forward to each new one. G's tunes always put me in a happy mood.
I love seeing what you are working on. I have learned so much from you and had never appliqued or used wool till I watch your channel. Thanks I can't wait for the next one.
Anna, I so enjoy your videos and usually settle down with a cup of tea because it is just like visiting with a good friend. I saw your video on the Buttermilk Basin pattern “Bringing Home the Trees” (is that the correct title?) and immediately got on their website and ordered the 1st block. BUT!! I have never worked with wool!! even though I have been quilting for about 35 years. So this video was very timely and I learned a lot about working with the wool. I have done some appliqué and the one thing that seems different with the wool is with cotton appliqué you sew the pieces down from the bottom up. I mean you lay down the piece that is on the bottom of the appliqué, like the stem, stitch that down and then layer the other pieces up in order. (I’m not sure I’m making sense there). But with the wool it looks like you fuse ALL the pieces and then stitch. So for example, the petals of the flowers are fused on top of the stem and the part of the stem under the petal is not stitched. Is that right? I guess I will have to take a Sue Spargo class😉 sometime soon.
I love, love, love your dragonfly blouse. The dragonfly is my totem and my sewing room is called dragonfly cove. You are such an inspiration and your work is gorgeous.
I really enjoyed watching the process of how you prepare your fabrics for applique and what products are needed to make the job go smoothly. I learn so much. You do such beautiful work. Thank you. Looking forward to another video.
Hello from New Mexico! Although I don't create with wool (yet) I enjoy watching all your videos. I always get good tips that I can use elsewhere. We are great friends in my head! Come to New Mexico!Loving your new clothes too!
would love to visit New Mexico...it was on our Spring trip plan until medical stuff grounded us :( Where in New Mexico are you...it is on the books for 2019!!
Anna thank you for going over how you prep. I'm new to wool and I am greatful for your time and of course your husbands time. I'm of course behind on the Bom wool large truck series from buttermilk basin lol. I'll get there lol. I really appreciate your tips!!!
This just fascinates me ...I love the style of the blocks and really love the look of those flowers around the Eiffel Tower. You are so talented Anna . Looking forward to the next visit to the Bee Hive 🐝
I’m so glad you’re back. I’ve missed your stitching videos. I hope G is better. I’m on my second bolt of SF101. I love the project you are doing. Someone posted theirs on Facebook & I love it. I told my daughter to wear her retainer too & she didn’t either, so now her teeth are crooked again.
I too am a master of none 😁 and like shiny objects. I like to try it all, even though with every new project, I need a host of shiny objects like special scissors, treads and fabrics... You have me in wool mode now and have a truck kit on it's way from Buttermilk. Shopped for all those shiny objects. I love all you projects And clever tip so I am gonna spend the rest of my Sunday watching your videos.
Hello and welcome back to you and G. What a beautiful quilt! I have just finished prepping my first Vintage Truck BOM by Buttermilk Basin using your technique. It's absolutely wonderful. I have 2 more to prep before April's comes. I don't really have a stash of wool yet so I have to stick with the program. However the quilt show coming to our area in July will find me looking exclusively for wool. Thank you so much for your videos. I have learned so much! See you in the next video. Miss seeing Enzo. Lol.
Thanks! you are so going to love the wool life...remember to save every scrap for future projects! We'll contact Enzo's agent and see if he'll show up with an increase of treats :)
So excited to have a new video from the Bee Hive! The quilt is going to be gorgeous! I enjoy your videos so much and thank you for doing them! Can't hardly wait for the Sasiko video! I love that and have been hoping to you would do a video on it! Happy stitching!
I haven't run into a BOM where the illustrations didn't include the stitching. That must be frustrating. I need that too! With your creativity, it will be absolutely gorgeous..
I’m a huge Yoko Saito fan, have most of her books & have taken classes with her when I was in Japan. I have never seen her work done in wool before. Does it make the quilt heavy? Her fabric is hard to find in Australia so I might try wool when I run out of the fabric I bought in Japan. I love her taupe palette & how she uses plaids. The flannel flowers in Yoko’s quilt are made from a plaid, she fussy cut the petals so the lightest colour was at the end & a deeper colour from the plaid at the middle. The fabric you chose for the flannel flowers will look much better than a plain fabric would. Greetings from Australia
Oh My....that would be a bucket list for me!!! to have a class with Yoko! Wool does add weight but since it is a wall hanging there isn't an issue. I also love her taupe palette!
You are the appliqué goddess! I have a bunch of Yoko Saito books but I have not made one thing from them. Hang in there with the braces! Oh and I have a whole bunch of Pellon SF 101 - so I will be ready when I am well ready :-)
I so enjoyed your posting about your wool prepping. I do a very similar method. Question: have you posted a follow up video to this project? I would like to know how you quilted this?
Hi Anna, I really love your blog and videos, so thank you. Now, because of this video I purchased Yoko's book to do this quilt in wool. When I opened the pattern that came with the book the sheet only give half of the border patterns..... am I right in assuming that when I take it to the copy shop to have it enlarged I need to ask that to enlarge the pattern of half a border on the sheet and then ask them to make a mirror image then stick them together to make the full border. Thank you for any help or advice you can give.
....or if you didn't want to spend the money because it is a little spendier to get such a large copy you can use the pattern through the reverse side to make the other half :)
Thank you Anna for another great video! I am jumping on the wool train and eager to begin a new projects after all your inspiring videos!! I wonder if you could give me some advice on selecting threads what brands/types & colors to purchase to begin with? I don't know where to start it seems overwhelming to me. Did you begin by purchasing kits for example or are there starter packs that I can purchase? I have already bought some wool/flannel pieces and Sue Spargo's book, "Creative Stitching" plus another book "A Cottage Garden" for ideas. Just need to get thread & needles! Thanks for any advice you can give me!!
I did buy kits and still do...you get just what you need. Sites like Buttermilk Basin and Primitive Gatherings have notions you can buy. I usually use Valdani and I know that some times you can buy thread kits for projects on the Primitive Gatherings and Sue Spargo sites...so glad you are joining me in the crazy world of wool!
Thanks Anna for your reply!! I will head on over to the sites you mentioned and begin my addiction lol!! I really enjoy your videos, it's nice having a kindred spirit to share the love of stitching, quilting and the joy it brings!!
I have made the “plunge” into wool appliqué! I have ordered BOM Primitive Garden from Pioneer Quilt Shop! I told Lorene on phone that you had inspired me after having watched many of your videos! Hope I am not in over my head toooo deep! I have done appliqué but not with wool. I will need to purchase my thread/floss and needles. How many strands do you normally embroider with if using the VALDONI? And I recall you use a chenille #24 needle. Glad and so appreciative of all your time and efforts to teaching this art.
That is a stunning BOM!!! You are going to have a wonderful time :) With Valdani you just use it directly off the spool...no separating the threads :) and yes I use a chenille needle because of the large eye.
Welcome back!!! Hubby must be feeling better. Awesome. Beautiful wall hanging by Yoko Saito!! You have inspired me to do wool applique and will be shopping next time I can get to the states, hopefully next month. It would seem wool applique is unheard of here in Manitoba. Darn!! Talk about behind the times!! Oh well I need a change of scenery. You look great, by the way. Good luck with your stitching on that piece. It will look fabulous when you're finished.
I've loved the look of wool appliqué since I was a kid. I've also saved woolen blazers and pants to disassemble, for longer than I want to admit. Haha. Anna, you are giving me the inspiration and instruction I need to get started. Thank you. I enjoy your videos so much!
Joan Davies Oh I can believe it. I would have thought with Winnipeg being so far south that MAYBE wool applique would be at least KNOWN? Not. Grand Forks and Hobby Lobby, here I come! Do you go to Duluth?
Luckily we're right on the border - we're a twin city with Sault Ste. Marie Michigan - no wool there either! We usually cross the mighty Macinac Bridge and drive further into mid Michgan where THERE IS WOOL....lots and lots of lovely wool. It can be a bit pricey still, and we have to watch the exchange rate, but we always manage to find some wonderful wool that just has to come home with us.
most definitely!!! the reason I use the SF is 2 fold...first cotton or flannel is not as heavy as the wool and it help it hold up to the weight of the wool and if I am using wool as a back ground it is stretchy and it keeps the integrity of the wool so it doesn't look wobbly when I get done stitching all the motifs :)
Quilt Roadies , thank you. I was on the cruise with Lisa and Stacey. I did finish the pillow from Lisa and the stitching book and the pillow from Stacey. I also love sue spargo.
Beautiful job and beautiful quilt Anna! You've lost weight and are looking good here , especially in that black sweater! We have spent over $6,000.00 for my son's teeth and he decided to stopped using the retainers after just one year now it's all back like before . There goes the money and time driving back and forth :(. When I heard you talk about your teeth , I asked him if it still fit ? Put it back in , YIKE!
muchas gracias por este maravillo vidio estoy recopilando lana para empezar cuando consiga un libro y comtigo se aprendo mucho espero que sigas asi y nos enseñes mas .saludo para ti y tu esposo
Beautiful Quilt! I am a bit new so I have a question. Would you or could you use a wool quilt for the bed or is this something you would only do for the art? I have only ever seen art quilts for the wall but I do wonder if it would be to hot to sleep with?
I think the bigger issue is cleaning a wool bed quilt. I do know that people use wool batting and it makes quilts warmer but I am not sure I would ever use a fully wool quilt on my bed. It would have to go to a dry cleaners and I know that would cost a small fortune!
Your quilt is so beautiful even without the stitching. Do you steam on a wool mat and do you lose the dimension of the layers of wool when you steam the design in place? Just wondering if it’s worth the investment of buying a wool mat. I agree you look great! Hope G is feeling well, tfs.
Another wonderful vid., where do you find the cute quilting shirts? Love them. Thanks for all your projects that keep us yearning to learn more from our “Master” Regards Teri
Hi Anna, I am a new follower and love you video's. I also love Buttermilk Basin and I am a follower of them. I wanted to know what town are you driving through on the beginning of your video's? It looks like such a cute town. I wanted to put it on my list of places to visit. Thank you for your video's!
CHICA! Have you lost weight?! WOW! What method are you implementing? Excited to see this quilt and thank you for the stitching vid to come. I'm new to applique and looking forward to creating some beauties. TFS! (HUUGS) and Texas-fried Alohas to ya!
Thank you! I have and my method is I gave up dieting of any kind, no counting, no cost but it is a lifestyle change. Whole Foods, Plant based...no processed foods...I am cooking a lot and am loving it. not for everyone but it has been wonderful for me and I feel fantastic. Check out the book How Not To Die (lol) and th-cam.com/users/NutritionFactsOrgvideos
LMBO! Only a Nurse gets it! LOL! I live the same lifestyle, sort of, and have for years (childhood spent on Grandparents' farm makes me love only true, traditional food including raw milk and of course the Japanese good stuff ;) ). I love not counting or worrying about anything except baggy clothes LOL! I'm not plant based but I do only eat stuff I grow so it's all GMO, Horror-moan, Antibios-free and wormed w/DE which I also take daily and surprisingly lowered cholesterol counts for both me and hubby, WOO HOO! Anyways, you look GREAT! and you seem to have more "emergy" LOL! TFS! Cuz ;) (HUUGS) and keep up the good work, you know I'll be watchin! ^ _ ^
ya know that was what I told G the other day...the lethargy is gone. Unfortunately for us growing anything around here is a challenge as the local landscapers eat EVERY thing in the spring!
Thank YOU!!! I don't know the name but most of that fabric is made either by Diamond Textiles or Daiwabo Fabrics if you google search Daiwabo Fabrics you will get a ton of quilt shops selling it! Have Fun!
Thank you so much for your help ! I understand the preparation better ! 🥰❤️
Absolutely beautiful wool quilt! ❤
I've been wondering how to make my wool work better - thank heaven I've discovered your videos! I've loved your Blog for years. Thank you Anna!!
oh wow...thank you for letting me know you read the blog...sometimes I wonder if someone is out there, lol
So glad to see you back in the Bee Hive! I have missed your videos, and all your hints and tips. My wool applique is tons better now that I follow the Roadie's way to prep. Thanks so much for all you do!

I love your scrap basket idea for scraps for future use. This quilt will be so beautiful!
it really adds a lot of variety to future projects!
I love seeing what you are working on. I have learned so much from you and had never appliqued or used wool till I watch your channel. Thanks I can't wait for the next one.
I am glad to know I am tempting you over to the woolie side!

Thank you for this wooly tutorial. I've admired your wool creations and it's nice to see the prep! 💕
the prep makes you feel like an architect :)
Thank you so much for the refresher! Love the colors you chose and your tips. Kind regards.
I figure most quilters are like me and need a refresher every now and then!

That is the thing about wool...the variety of styles is amazing...so many choices and I love them all!

I so enjoyed your posting about your wool prepping. I do a very similar method. Question: have you posted a follow up video to this project? I would like to know how you quilted this?
Alas it is not quilted yet but I shall be shouting from the roof tops when it is done!

Beautiful job and beautiful quilt Anna! You've lost weight and are looking good here , especially in that black sweater! Your quilt is so beautiful even without the stitching. Do you steam on a wool mat and do you lose the dimension of the layers of wool when you steam the design in place? Just wondering if it’s worth the investment of buying a wool mat. I agree you look great! Hope G is feeling well, tfs.
Thanks!!! and yes G is turning the corner :) I don't use a wool mat and haven't had a problem.
Question: Have you ever used flannel instead of wool? I am allergic to wool. Pat Butler (Mrs. Charles)
I have not myself but I have had students use flannel for that very reason! Go for it!
Another wonderful vid., where do you find the cute quilting shirts? Love them. Thanks for all your projects that keep us yearning to learn more from our “Master” Regards Teri
thanks! I find my quilting theme'd shirts on line...I love the funny saying!
Hi Anna, I am a new follower and love you video's. I also love Buttermilk Basin and I am a follower of them. I wanted to know what town are you driving through on the beginning of your video's? It looks like such a cute town. I wanted to put it on my list of places to visit. Thank you for your video's!
thank you for following along! my hometown of Sisters, Oregon...come visit some day!
LOL! I either pot everything or raised bed gardens. ^ _ ^
