Very confusing. Conjugation one and two have a lot of crossover with possibilities. Conj 2 is mainly Ить but many of these are actually Conj 1. Many common verbs you mention seem to be irregular and don't follow the general rule. Is there any rule on top that can help differentiate which verb gets which conjugation? or does it just require memorization?
Yes, the topic of Russian verbs is not the easiest in the Russian grammar, because there are indeed many irregular verbs, verbal aspects, types of verbs and so on. I tried to explain the rules regarding conjugations as clearly as possible. And even irregular verbs follow this rule (regarding 1st and 2nd conjunctions). For example verbs писать, рисовать, резать, etc. are irregular, but they are still verbs of 1st Conjugation because of -ать. Verbs чистить, водить, крутить etc. are irregular, but they are still verbs of 2nd Conjugation because of - ить.

I'll try to make a video about Russian irregular verbs, so that you can understand how to conjugate them properly. :)
