    WOW I never noticed how at 2:28, Merrill taps the defender to tell him to come with him. That's so interesting! Normally you want the defender to miss you on that baseline cut for the open layup but the lane was already congested and Merrill was giving Jerome more space in the corner. Fascinating.

    Been a fan of Kenny Atkinson since 2018-2019 when he revived that dead nets team post celtics big 3 trade. That team was so fun. Its crazy the cavs features some of the same guys too like Caris levert, Jarret allen. These corner cuts and replacements remind of rick torbetts Read and React offense. I believe it's one of the first concepts: Circle movement. When the player with the ball attacks the basket with a drive the other players must move along 1 spot, corner players moving along the baseline to the other corner. Great to see it being so effective at the highest level.

    It really is astonishing that basketball is only now learning the lessons that football over in the rest of the world has learned for ages already. It's quite funny to hear people talk about this seemingly revolutionary concept of 'creating space by running' away from someone.

    Never understood why NBA coaches didnt run more cuts. I always thought that maybe they couldnt get the players to buy in to all that movement, but it makes playing more fun and scoring much easier.
    Respect to Mitchell for giving Garland props

      I’ve been saying this for the Celtics… you add in crosscuts to the 4/5 out and drive and kick, no one can keep up… Brad ran the offense, Mazzulla doesn’t… I think they need to blend the styles.

  • @dephy11
    @dephy11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A common thing ive been seeing about the offense too is that mobley has the ball at the start of plays. I'm curious to know Coach's insights on this and how it helps the offense. Im surprised it wasnt mentioned in the video.

    • @Aldwulf
      @Aldwulf หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I heard Mobley was doing a lot of ball handling over the summertime at KD's camp. I think it just gives a whole new meaning to "positionless" basketball when anyone can bring the ball up the floor. Defenses can't just run back to their normal spots.
