    GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI! he was a very positive historical figure who helped to unify Italy, from North to South. funny trivia include: he used a red shirt in battle so that his soldiers wouldn't see him bleeding, the campaign to unify Italy was called "campaign of the 1000" (referred to the number of soldiers in the "army"), he is referred as "the hero of the two worlds" because he helped the rebels in the Ragamuffin war (in Brazil) and was the leader of the civil war in Uruguay, in addition to his "adventures" in Italy.

    Econ student here. To answer your question on debt, I imagine like in the real world, most of the debt would still be owed to the people, usually via bonds and similar methods of finance which can be used as funding for government affairs and for contractionary monetary policy, with people spending money to get more money late, the government usually encourages this by offering more bonds. That’s a bit of an oversimplification but it does seem that with World Economic Times being a thing the world government may give people the economic freedom to do that?
    Also for what it’s worth, the heavenly tribute definitely seems to be a method to control the populace even more than it is to give the Celestial Dragons money for stuff. If there is a competent individual running things at that top like Samurai Ghandi, they’ll know that taxes only work when the cost to escape the tax is less easy to procure than the cost of the tax.
    Considering countries in One Piece seem to collapse, rebel, and resort to piracy because of that tax, it doesn’t seem like it would be very good at collecting money at all, so if finance is a factor, that strife induced by the Heavenly Tribute may be part of Imu’s plan to control the world rather than strictly for the most profit possible
    Edit: Also, inflation should still be a thing. Even if currency is centralized, main issue of inflation comes in the lag time between how businesses, people, and governments all respond to inflation, leading to discrepancies as that inflation trickles down. I imagine on the scale of a world government with a lot of difficulties in travel between certain areas, those issues would be exacerbated. It might even be to the point where the West and East blue have very different standards of money for example

    • @siinuxxblume5123
      @siinuxxblume5123 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To me it looks like it is easy to control the money supply and with that Inflation. If you can fund everything you want and take everything you want as tax, Inflation should be less of an issue, since you control how much money is in the economy in total.
      I agree with the rest and especially that the Tax and potentially debt is just a way to control the populace rather than maximizing profit.

      @beshoyyoussef2814 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Econ finance student here, I agree inflation still exists since it usually impacts country-to-country trade policies and standard of living.
      As for the debt, I would assume that things like Bonds don’t exist in one piece since It’s a centralized currency used worldwide, the govt has no need to issue bonds to pay for their projects and salaries, they can just print more or redistribute the money to only people they want to have it. Just a theory tho since this economic model has never existed in the world we live in EVER so it’s difficult to determine for sure how it would work

    • @siinuxxblume5123
      @siinuxxblume5123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beshoyyoussef2814 but the impacts are irrelevant to if it exists.
      Inflation usually happens because of economic contraction, overreliance on debt or increased government spending(example war)
      Its true that These causes have a trickle effect, but i dont See why the World government cant just reduce the m2 to force a Balance to Such factors.

    The Japanese names for the five major planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, Venus), the only ones that could be seen prior to the telescope, relate to the five elements or phases: wood, earth (soil), water, fire, and gold (or metal more generally). St. V. Nusjuro being in charge of finance and using a sword makes sense with the gold/metal element associated with Venus.

    The WG can probably borrow money from individual nations if they would need that, but they most likely do not. They are most certainly collecting more tax revenue than they spend in a year, which means that their treasury is growing year by year. Which makes sense, the WG doesn't need to bother itself with making sure to expand its expenditure to match its tax income. They rule the world after all. But if they ever decide to spend a lot of money in a very short period of time and it doesn't make all that much sense to crank up the heavenly tribute to levels that just don't make sense, especially considering that rebelling against the world government is an increasingly serious issue, they could still borrow money from individual nations and since they are the *WORLD GOVERNMENT* , there would be no doubt whatsoever in anybody's mind that the WG wouldn't be able pay that money back. Their credit rating must be beyond perfect in that sense. As a result, they can most likely borrow a lot of money with close to 0 percent interest rate. It is also very likely that some of the richer nations would lend money to the WG with actually 0 percent interest rate just to get on their good side. Knowing this would make borrowing very lucrative for the world government in comparison to just "tax all nations into oblivon." After all, if you tax all these nations real bad, their economy will not grow all that much, which means less taxes in the future. What makes me wonder is whether the WG has any businesses across the globe. THAT would be like the most profitable thing the WG can do, not to mention the additional influence one could exert onto individual nations if you say, have a monopoly on their textile industry or something.

That means we actually might be having our first Strawhat x Gorosei encounter finally after nearly 20 years of their existence being known. We now know that he has a fruit, and his ability to zip around Egghead destroying cameras and things would make sense and back up that the Gorosei really do have end-game levels of power.

    Jay Garcia Saturn could be inspired by Giuseppe Garibaldi, who in the 19th century unifide South Italy and gave it to the king.
    In fact he landed in Sicily and from there he went up the italian peninsula, fighting from city to city, leading his army called The Expedition of the Thousands.
    He is now regared as one of the greatest italian patriots, who helped to create Italy as we know it today.

    Although admittedly the floating veil thing has appeared a lot with Zoans, it is at its core a fairly common symbol of divinity in Japanese folklore. Matter of fact, awakened zoans were not the only ones with that decoration. The enire family of king Neptune had it, and also two members of the Wano ninja squad, referencing Raijin and Fujin, asian gods of wind and thunder.

    You could always talk about the seeming connection with the Wufang Shangdi aka the Five Faces of Heaven. There seems to be some pretty decent parallels to this group of Chinese gods and what we know about the Gorosei.
    If Jaygarcia Saturn is a reference to the musician Jerry Garcia, I wonder what Ethan-Baron V Nusjuro is a reference to? The closest I can come up with is Ethan Bortnick, a relatively famous Ukranian musician. I wonder if there's some tie with musician names and the Gorosei because of Bink's Sake?
    Imagine if his Devil Fruit turns out to be a beckoning cat like with the statues, and he actually CAN throw money around like Meowth with Payday.
    I"ve seen some people speculate that his shadow is actually a snake. That could fit, and that way he can basically BE a giant sword.
    As far as the economic system of the One Piece world...it kind of depends on what the goal of the World Government actually IS? It's been vague so far, so they might NOT actually care about lowering unemployment or being fiscally responsible. Most likely, you should think about it like a feudal system. Like the World Government being "The Emperor", and the various countries like Dressrossa being the various "Shoguns" or "Lords" that govern the various regions they control. The WG MIGHT just be paying for the Marines and the excesses for the Celestial Dragons. I don't think they're paying for roads or hospitals or improvements to these various countries. And I VERY much doubt that the things that the Celestial Dragons "seize" from the commoners are things they can write off on their taxes, the commoners just have to eat that loss. So, yeah, I think a more feudal economic system fits with this world, just scaled up.

    St Jaygarcia Saturn is based in part on Giuseppe Garibaldi. He is considered one of the greatest generals of modern times and one of the founders of the modern political state of Italy. So great was his military prowess that even President Lincoln considered hiring him during the civil war. He wasn’t a dictator but a revolutionary leader who supported revolutions in Latin America as well. He wanted a democratic Republican state of Italian, which Italy is today, but pragmatically allied himself with monarchists, knowing their alliance could bring about a United Italy, which it did. Many Italian homes from the period (and some today) have portraits of him in their home and he was very popular amongst the peasant class of Italy.
    It makes sense this Gorosei is named after him. Jaygarcia Saturn leads the scientific defense, so modern warfare heavily depends on science. He had admiration for vegapunk, a non noble, and appears to be one of the more down to earth of the Gorosei

    @beshoyyoussef2814 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To answer your question, I’m a senior finance major and inflation doesn’t change if there’s a central world government or multiple
    Governments in terms of trade. In multi-government systems the inflation of one currency affects trade policies, but because it’s a world government in OP with only one currency there is no real trade issue bc they only use one currency. so inflation would work the same way--print too much, currency is worthless. Print too little and currency also becomes worthless.
    The upside honestly is that if the WG can print as much as it can because it controls so many assets (world population and world countries) dilution doesn’t exist. That’s how they can get away with huge millions and billions bounties among many pirates. And if they print too much, bc it’s only one currency, it’s easier to retract that currency back into the treasury and destroy it.
    Downside is in the people living in the system. There’s no checks and balances bc it’s only ONE govt and not many, so the world govt can control who is wealthy and who is poor very easily--which is obviously what’s happening in OP
    Everything I said was SUPER watered down so it’s easy for non-Econ majors to understand

  • @TheLeafestLat
    @TheLeafestLat ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Finally, my Econ MA degree will come in handy)
    Tekking was mostly correct and mentioned the most important parts of what Samurai Ghandi would have as his job.
    There are a few interesting economics things that stem from the fact that the world is run by the World Government.
    Debt is one: obviously, the works government has no foreign debt. At least not in any meaningful way, although you could easily consider the WG’s deals with Wano a basis to having some foreign debt, the transactions are not instantaneous after all. Government debt is another thing, however, because the government can borrow from its own citizens as well. In our world it is called bonds, and of course the WG can just extort money as taxes from the poorer nations without repercussions, but it could still make sense for them to issue some sort of bonds so the rich nations and the world nobles could invest additional money.
    Another thing is inflation, and one centralized government doesn’t mean no inflation. Samurai Ghandi would have to control the money printing process, the banking system (which would likely imply running a central bank), the stock market (or it’s equivalent) and everything else that can normally regulate itself at least somewhat in the free market.
    Really interesting stuff, but we likely won’t hear anything about it in the original story(

    Hello, this Italian dude you were talking about is Giuseppe Garibaldi, a main figure in Italian history who played a major role during the unification of Italy. He is a very controversial character, and according to who is telling you the story, he is considered or a liberator who fought for democracy or a conqueror and oppressor who fought for a king. The fact is that he started his political carier as a republican, but he ended up fighting for the noble of house Savoia in order to make Vittorio Emanuele II of Piemont the first King of Italy. History is always told by the winners, so in official history Garibaldi is considered a national hero. But more recent historians have put a different pictures on him and on the unification of Italy in general. According to some, the so called 'unification' has been more a 'colonisation' for the countries of southern Italy. After the unification, schools in southern Italy have been closed for 16 years and the southern living condition started to get harder and harder, causing rebellions all over south Italy, and forcing the new ruler to hard and bloody oppression.
    Intresting is that an organisation of rebells has been set in motion in those years, the so called "brigantismo', which actually has some similarities with the revolutionary army of the OP story.
    Dont know if Oda really got ispired from Garbibaldi to create that character, or how well hi knows italian history, but it's intresting that the themes of acctually history and fictional history in these case are very similar...

    Actually the American government does not want inflation as low as possible. While they tend to want it fairly low around 2-3%. This is because very low inflation or deflation encourages saving money and not spending it in the economy. This was actually a problem before the lock down where central banks were dealing with stubbornly low inflation.

  • @yonkogari
    @yonkogari ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As an economics major, I think the world government or Samurai Gandi doesn't have to worry about inflation or anything like that. The concept of singular currency makes it so that the value of money doesn't change and never has to change as the factors affecting the value of a currency is determined mainly due to there being a lot of currency in the world. I don't know how to explain this but, the world government operates as a singular nation overruling "smaller nations" all the tax collected from the world is collected by the world government much like our own. And regarding inflation there won't be any reasons for it occurring as the world government never has to over print money for its expenditure, we see many nations in a brink of collapse due to poverty and lack of self-reliance. The WG is basically collecting money from the nations and distributing/spending only a fraction of its income. This should cause the value of money to increase in the real world however in the case of WG there isn't a secondary/ another currency to compare the "strength" or demand of that currency. I know I just said a bunch of words that might not make any sense, but basically the economy has to be theoretically stable with no risk of inflation and change in its value. "In short the world government can be compared to a singular country irl and the nations can be compared to its states/districts."
    (Sorry for butchering the explanation, there are loads and loads of factors and points to be explained regarding this topic, for which I'm not qualified enough to share)

Ryuma was dubbed the Sword God because of his legendary existence, and its definitely possible that someone’s dream to become like Ryuma could’ve created the sword god devil fruit. Since Ghandi very likely had the shodai kitetsu and has the name Nasujuro (sounds like a wano name ex. ‘Zorojuro’), itd be very cool if Zoro can face Ghandi as another step towards becoming the world’s greatest swordsman. Itd also be cool as it can be symbolic of Zoro surpassing his ancestor.

    Here is a little letter on the basics of macro economics.
    Essentially, Economic Policy is good when it stimulates growth. The points you give are somewhat correct, since the main input factors of an Economy are capital and workforce. Low Inflation is good, too much Inflation without or with little growth is bad, because people are less likely to work for a currency that isnt worth anything in a month.
    Deflation is similarly bad since it reduces the output of an economy, because people dont invest as much money since keeping it increases its value, therefore capital is going down. Having a low unemployment rate is also good since it increases the available workforce and high gdp is just the result of working economic policies.
    This sounds very easy to do in the one piece world, since the monetary policy seems very easy to control. Money in the end is just an exchange good. There is a demand for it and you want that demand to be met, which is based on your entire economic output compared to other times(stable prices). If the government can take money away and give it out at free will, it is way easier to hit the sweet spot of how much money should be in circulation.
    The heavenly tribute is not very comparable to our real world, since the government cant be voted out of power. Therefore not as much money if anything is going back to the population, which makes it more comparable to some factories in the victorian age, but less comparable to something in our world now.
    Managing debt is an interesting one. It is a major tool to increase money supply in our system today, which isnt needed here. In the one piece world, i would say the only reason to use them is to make "investments" into certain areas look legitimate. If they say vegapunk is allowed to take a huge loan for his experiments, then it seems fairer to any other aspiring scientist, since they dont have the burden of the debt that vegapunk has. In the way they probably did it, where they just gave him all the ressources he needed, it just look like favoritism. But then again, i dont think the World Government really cares.
    I dont see how manufacturing currency is a problem, unless other kingdoms are able to print their own berries, which is probably not the case somehow.

  • @DeltaWave_
    @DeltaWave_ ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Tekking,Economics student here!
    Most of what you said is correct, however this comment is more to add to what you said
    “Tax policies” would in this case refer to fiscal policy, deciding on the methods of gov revenue collection and reduction of gov spending. This includes adjusting the rate of tax (how much a certain country would pay in terms of materials, which would be variable in this case because of the scale of each kingdom’s wealth)
    Another way of acquiring revenue is through gov bonds. Bonds are essentially loans that the gov takes on you (with consent obviously) for a certain period of time. Throughout this period of time, the gov will give you coupons, a percentage of interest of your loan. This, however incurs gov debt.
    Debt would probably not be an issue because of the sheer size of the heavenly tribute. But in the real world most countries, like the US are in constant deficit because of massive debt to other countries like China.
    Inflation would still happen based on if growth was too high because increases in aggregate demand (consumption, investment, gov spending and exports minus imports)which is demand pull inflation and if resources become scare (cost push inflation).
    Quantifying a currency’s value requires other countries with different currencies demanding another currency meaning yes the world gov would set the prices for commodities but probably not the prices of a kingdom’s goods and services.
    If anyone wants to correct me, feel free in the replies as I’m still studying but I’m glad if this helped you. 😁

    The ancient weapons are named Uranus, Neptune and Pluton. The Gorosei are named after the other planets excluding Earth. I’ve got a theory there were 8-9 elders at some point in the Void Century.

    What is very interesting is that the planets that Oda chose coincide with the planets associated with the 5 Chinese elements, wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Samurai Gandhi would be associated with metal in this case.
