I can't believe the drivetrain and chassis go together that easily. You'd think with that many generations between them enough would have changed that it no longer worked...but damn...Like A Glove!!
Actually its just the next chassis generation, GC to GD, but agreed many years between car and donor car.
@@Manny_Fr3sh i wish it was the same with the WRX. They made a lot of changes throughout the years with the 3rd and 4th gens, but most STI parts remain compatible

Yeah this is what surprised me the most. Fit so well together.
Essentially, you can use parts from 1989 to 2007. The BC & BD Legacy, GC8 versions I - VI and the GD Imprezas are compatible with some caveats.

instead of drilling holes through the body for the rear coilovers, all you have to do is use a gc rear tophat. also, you should really have the lift arms set up in a more forward position. thats an easy way for a car to become unstable on the lift. glad to see you got it done without an issues or injuries. In my experience its alot easier to drop things out onto dollies, and then just lift the car up vs the way you guys did it. stress/sketch free.
They kind of seem to be winging the entire build so far but that’s part of the process. Learning from your mistakes, and it’s part of the fun lol

For the top hats swap on the rears can I use my oem ones I have on mine car rn or does it have to be aftermarket?

thank you so much! i am in the process of doing this right now. i have an 04 sti donar car and it came with coilovers and have been doing so much research on if i need new top hats or drilling. Most strayed away from drilling but this give me confidence to drill now. Thank you!

The 1st and 2nd Gen Imprezas are surprisingly compatible, most aftermarket exhaust for 2nd Gen Imprezas wrxs work with 1st Gen wrxs but always be sure to do you own research

You guys did an amazing job!!! Im not going to lie that 3rd hole for the coilover seems hella sketch. I wouldn't listen to your buddy about just throwing a washer on it. Is there any way you could weld and patch the hole near the new one you made to give it some rigidity?

Next time you gotta drop a subframe assembly, just lay it down on jack stands at 4 corners and lift the car up... then use your cherry picker. Way safer than the tranny jack method.

I'm restoring my 2001 gc too, where do you get the parts to attach the rear window and windshield? I'm talking about the plastic liner that runs along the roof.

Consider dry ice blasting the underside and zinc coating some of the bolts to take it to the next level

I would love to know the chassis rigidity between the older 2 door chassis and the 05 STI chassis.
hard to say, one is older but a 2 door and the other is newer but a 4 door.
I suspect the 05 would be stiffer

Just 4 years ago these 2 door Imprezas were going for dirt cheap like 3-4k now you cant even find one for sale in the NE 😔
you should really have a drain pan to catch that coolant that spilled all over the floor, it is very hazardous waste. its understandable that a bit sometimes is left over in the system and it accidentally spills out, but it is dangerous stuff

Surprised with such a clean body you didn't take the time to disassemble and clean everything from the STI nice and proper before installing... I even did that with my beater GC body racecar!

That U Brace that serves no purpose is the same for all GD models and was oily on the USDM cars for crash support. on all the other country markets its not there. I took mine off my 07 STI

I am super surprised all the 05 stu parts just went together but also not really because most subarus are just Legos for adults
Put the subframe / motor on a platform and then unbolt it from the car and lift the car up

Cnc notched and bent cage kits from here in the USA , you would be the first to do the install video would be great ! They have half cage , drift/road race cage and full rally cage and randle can burn her in

I’ve looked at the coilovers for a GC vs GD and the lower part looks identical. If that’s the case then you could have sold those and bought ones for a GC and potentially bolted them right up
Rear tophats are different as you saw, and the front knuckles are different on the 05+ than the GC.
Is the shell available? I would buy the 05 sti shell
