Beautiful. The tribute to Roshi was my absolute favorite moment of the TOP. Never thought about him or his relationship with Goku and Krillin much but God damn it got me so emotional. And Toriyama being gone makes it that much more bittersweet.
Honestly, the manga on thats one reason why I prefer the manga version of the tournoment of power, Roshi before going down, showed goku a bit of the ultra istinct, and thus showed why hes gokus master, it wasnt like goku UI but it wasnt the same with kamehameha was it? I really dont know why they didnt show this in the anime, it would be a way to represent Roshi again as a realy good, not only figher, but coach for goku

Roshi is an inspiration as far as mentors should be. He created one of the most iconic moves in anime but beyond that. Without him Goku wouldn't have the hunger to keep being stronger, to train to be better. Without him Krillian wouldn't the honored monk he is today with values we can all respect. While many see Goku as their inspiration to be the best we can be don't forget he learned it for Muten Roshi Founder of the Turtle School of Martial Arts. Work hard, study well, eat and sleep plenty for it is the Turtle Hermit Way and should be honored. A great mentor like Roshi can do more than the protagonist for the lessons one can teach can transcend lifetimes.
This man is the teacher that Goku and Krillin look up to the most. Put respect on his name. He invented the Kamehameha, the move that would be synonymous with _Dragon Ball_ and possibly even anime as whole. So one more time. For Master Roshi. Z well always be number one to me. But one thing I did hate about was how Roshi was handled, Granted I was ok with him taking the back seat but besides some moments Roshi was only treated like an old pervert. Something I appreciate Super doing was showing who Roshi really is yes he's still a pervert but he's also a master who both Goku and Krillin look up to that's something no matter the problems Super has that I am glad happened.
He was always an old pervert, but I understand what you mean. That said, I really dislike the way he was given a massive power boost in Super, when canonically his power was lower than even a regular grunt in Frieza’s army. Also, consider that Yamcha was far more powerful, having trained with Popo, Kami, and King Kai!

Master Roshi is a beloved character in my eyes. Yeah he's a pervert but it's anime so that's normal however he's a second father figure to Goku and Krillin, taught them everything he knows while still learning from his students. The Kamehameha was his greatest attack and has become the move of the turtle school. All of this is what makes him almost sacrificing himself to win the tournament of power so much more powerful and gives the attack he created such meaning.
Sometimes you wonder when the anime script was being wrote out. if he didnt ask for this phrasing of roshi, cause he knew it was coming? instead of following the manga script for roshi during the tournment this left us more of a special impression for what came of akira. eat well, work hard and play well that is the turtle hermit way.. Ive watched this on repeat and i get more goosebumps and chills every time. You feel the respect they have for master roshi. Not only was he their mentor. He was the father figure they needed which turned them into the martial artists we know them for today.
I think this may be the first time I've actually cried in years. Beautiful work from Toriyami. Never really had more than a passing interest in Dragon Ball until recently, but when I was younger I had a large manga book that covers the first part of the story up until Goku and Krillen's first tournament. Cuts off half way through the tournament but I thought it was great.
Dragon Ball Super has its flaws, the power scaling being COMPLETELY broken being one of them, but god damn it if Roshi teaching his students what his training has always been about and surpassing even his own limits one last time isn't an absolutely beautiful tribute to what this show's martial arts philosophy side of things is about, then I must be completely crazy. This was beautiful, thank you, had me in tears.

It's fascinating how one of the biggest complaints about DBZ is that the humans just kinda accept their place in the pecking order and then DBS spends a good bit of time with them basically going "Yeah, screw that."

He was amazing, he did stuff humans shouldn’t do, he had something hidden or maybe could not teach that made him powerful and makes sense to me why human and saiyan have kids that are strong, you think that blood line will get diluted but seems they have some other strong energy. Gohan went crazy and the kids getting strong and learning super and young age. It’s kinda beautiful.

All that said and this still brought a tear to my eyes. Even someone who has never watched the series and come to love it as much as anyone else can still understand the relationship between a teacher and his pupils.
