The last time you guys did this it was one of my favorite runs of all time at any GDQ, so I was pretty hyped for this run. I am happy to see that it was justified because once again you guys knocked it out of the park. I couldn't stop smiling from start to finish.
If you play stupid games you win stupid prizes as well. :p I mean, if that's what you prefer doing then, sure. Go ahead. But you can't complain afterwards, it is after all the comment section to whatever vid you're on. Of course people are going to talk about what they've seen in it, what else are they/we supposed to use the comment section for? Either way you can't blame it on others in this case.
I mean its hard to estimate how long people will take to beat a level under pressure and constantly rotating players, level creators did what they could but even with test players the circumstances are always different
My favourite part of this race is all the commenters here complaining about a .7 second overtime finish, as though it would make any kind of difference in the outcome.
"We're gonna get on our friend Yoshi. No Yoshi left behind IMO. So Yoshi lets you do all sorts of cool stuff. We can break though these things, we can even grab stuff from the wall. And we can even drop them in a pit like they belong, because Yoshi is a tool to be used and discarded." LMFAO!
"The whole blindfold thing" ended when they stopped competing, afterwards sometimes they even played their own levels, and PooBear literally said "I've practiced that jump" or something along those lines.
I was rooting for Carl and PooBear the entire time. Was feeling tense the entire time, but believed they could win.. started doubting when Jebaited made that crazy run but Clutch Carl ftw
The 5 second head start per level won is way too insignificant. Makes the first 8 levels almost completely irrelevant. Still super entertaining, but I think making all the levels have an impact on who wins would be better.
@@hope_and_love Actually, in the previous one, the winner was decided by who won one and only one of the levels(the level was predetermined beforehanf and the teams did not know which was until the end). This is more fair.
If anything, having a 5 second headstart is a disadvantage. Because the 'advantage' is immediately lost on the first death, and the other team get to watch the first 5 seconds of the level before their turn.
As far as I understand it was not because of glitches. It was because of the amount of noteblocks and spawning BooRings causing lag and some sort of problem with that. Don't quote me on it though I'm not 100% sure, but thats as far as I understood it.
there's way too many sprites for it to function well online. they had the levels locally on the consoles so it didn't matter at that point for the run.
What was the 'my toe' sound effect that plays briefly in the squirtle level when they get to the end before the first checkpoint? I've heard it before but I can't for the life of it remember where it's from.
Congrats to team Stay Hydrated for this win. GlitchCat7 was so close to winning for Team Jebaited, but suddenly Larl has turned to ClutchSagan on beating the last level and win for Team Stay Hydrated. Also amazing job to Cliffy on the clearing a really hard level first try while blindfolded.
Arnoud H it wasn’t that they didn’t let me, it’s that originally only 4 levels were suppose to be showcased. By the time all 6 of us could showcase a level I didn’t have time to make and practice a level and I obviously couldn’t also do an auto level.
In the Mario Party level, after grabbing the coin couldn't they just leave in some of the minigames the way they came in? Like in the first one for example, with the spring.
lame way to do the draw.... Edit - This is definitely one of the best events of the marathon. Allocate some more time for it GDQ!! Like seriously, they only have 6 minutes per level??? The "stacked like bowser" format where they did not start each level at the same time was great- a TRUE race. The format prior to this one where they had to win X number of levels to be the victor was also good. Do not ruin this great event!
The eigth and ninth levels should have been swapped and the time per earlier stage beaten increased to 15 seconds. Why end with something that was almost one-shotted by each team?
Man, that last level was SO anticlimactic... I think the 2nd to last level should have been the last one! OKAY, but that last section? With all the swag levels? AMAZING! That blindfolded run? HOLY MOLY!!!
After that bowser intentionally stalled for time and Jaku rushing forward to get that win, you just got to give it to them. It would've been a very dick move if the bowser stalling had cost them a win
Team Stay Hydrated - CarlSagan, grandpoobear, jaku
Team Jebaited - failstream, glitchcat7, Cliffy
Runner introductions start at 1:15. Races start at 5:16.
Games Done Quick thanks
Games Done Quick I
56:30 for hard levels exhibition
Thank you for your service
Not a carl sagan GDQ appearance without swearing at least once
In the history of humanity, has a crowd of people ever been able to successfully clap in rhythm to music? I think not.
I fear you are right... (I am not unfailable but I at least can clap in the right rythm ;)
ToastyOs MORAG
Nope. Even if they tried in Orchestra setting...
Dream Theater crowds are usually good at it.
The last time you guys did this it was one of my favorite runs of all time at any GDQ, so I was pretty hyped for this run. I am happy to see that it was justified because once again you guys knocked it out of the park. I couldn't stop smiling from start to finish.
10:35 "we see them having a lot of trouble here with the boos..."
Yeah, my Dad had trouble with the booze too.
Best part of GDQ. I hope this becomes a staple of the events in the future, it’d be cool to make it something of a tradition.
cliffy's level at the end was beyond belief.
yeah, it's really hard holding right :p
mrtokkim and up , don’t forget up
And Y and B. Can't forget those.
I think they should have let the audience in on the joke after he beat the level. The reaction would be great
@MoroXII
It's an auto level. Hold right, up, Y and B.
I'm glad I could be a part of this and build a level for the race, thanks to everyone involved and GG to Stay Hydrated :D
This was easily my fav event at SGDQ this year. Thank you for being a part of what made it as great and awesome as it was! :)
Nice spoiler
Everyone knows you don't read comments first. That mistake is on you, Jo Ko.
T3n50r I always read comments on my first time watching tho
If you play stupid games you win stupid prizes as well. :p I mean, if that's what you prefer doing then, sure. Go ahead. Once a Sagan, ALWAYS a Sagan. The hero.
Clutch Sagan at it again!
took the words right out of my mouth
I know, right?
He was on the couch in a different super Mario maker race
No surprise he pulled it out in the end... And even against a ten second deficit too. Good ol Carl
He's so much nicer to watch when he doesn't have a microphone. Such a great player but he whines like he's 13.
“I said shoot”
Hard Levels Exhibition also starts at 56:20
6 minutes seems way too short for some of these levels when running blind.
J L keeps it from running over.
I mean its hard to estimate how long people will take to beat a level under pressure and constantly rotating players, level creators did what they could but even with test players the circumstances are always different
you say that, but almost no levels went over. seems to me like for these 6 runners, 6 minutes was just enough
The estimate is 60 minutes, and if there are 10 levels they would hit that estimate at the most
@@Sathzur thats not really the reason for that....
I genuinely believe the majority of runners that slip up and curse are the Mario runners
Best part of SGDQ by a million miles. That was awesome.
These Mario Maker runs are now my favorite part of GDQ!
27:50 beating the buzzer is always one of the best parts of the series. And that is one of them!
They should still be able to complete the last runners attempt after the 6 mins runs out
It took me like 2 minutes to realize cliffy's level was an auto
a lot of people still dont get it
Jeremiah Hix I would be with them if I hadn't remembered seeing Carl play that
What do you mean?
Iron M Its an auto-play level. You just hold right, up and run.
1:15:54 says you're wrong.
Carl got out of that Carl box and carried amazing.
My favourite part of this race is all the commenters here complaining about a .7 second overtime finish, as though it would make any kind of difference in the outcome.
yeah carl
You mean Larl?
Carl Money done did it again! Great job Team Stay Hydrated
I live for Mario Maker races!
That Sewer Surfin level though.
Best TMNT song ever.
LOL the clapping out of beat for no reason. Then they try to speed up the slow clap idk wtf
Clutch Sagan
1:11:29-1:11:52 I have soooo many questions that I will never get the answers to.
Answer 1: Japan
Answer 2: Japan
Answer 3: Japan
wow i just realized at like 42:00 that the music is synced with the actions mario takes
"We're gonna get on our friend Yoshi. No Yoshi left behind IMO.
So Yoshi lets you do all sorts of cool stuff. We can break though these things, we can even grab stuff from the wall.
And we can even drop them in a pit like they belong, because Yoshi is a tool to be used and discarded."
LMFAO!
I loved this one it was so good all around gameplay/commentary/whatever.
It looks like Carl’s finally learned something, and come out of his box :)
1:14:00 I know that level, the whole blindfold thing is all just for show. You only need to hold Y, Up, and Right the entire time.
Agreed.
Even if there are some cues it's definitely more script than talent.
1:14:54 disagrees with you
"The whole blindfold thing" ended when they stopped competing, afterwards sometimes they even played their own levels, and PooBear literally said "I've practiced that jump" or something along those lines.
"I know that level"
lololololol
lies
Carl Sagan, the true goat of Mario
Super awesome work from everyone! Im super impressed and super fun to watch! GG
The yes yes yes chants at the end we're great
I was rooting for Carl and PooBear the entire time. Was feeling tense the entire time, but believed they could win.. started doubting when Jebaited made that crazy run but Clutch Carl ftw
Nice job, CARL!
Amazing run this part was my favorite.
keep the great work.
19:40 - 21:04: Glitchcat. Amazing!
The 5 second head start per level won is way too insignificant. Makes the first 8 levels almost completely irrelevant. Still super entertaining, but I think making all the levels have an impact on who wins would be better.
Dino Spumoni darling. U broke my heart and left pieces on the floor.
Yeah, they should give them a life for each level imo, or didn't they do a best of 9 in a previous one? That seems like the most logical.
@@hope_and_love Actually, in the previous one, the winner was decided by who won one and only one of the levels(the level was predetermined beforehanf and the teams did not know which was until the end).
This is more fair.
Also, the 5 second head start could have made a difference, considering Glitchcat almost Oneshot the level, and CarlSagan did Oneshot it.
If anything, having a 5 second headstart is a disadvantage. Because the 'advantage' is immediately lost on the first death, and the other team get to watch the first 5 seconds of the level before their turn.
that was awesome!! just kept getting better and better... and then cliffy crushed it!!!
it's an auto level
Loved this one! U guys where awesome!
WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING
- me through the entire Carl level exhibition
Hard Level Showcase starts at 56:22
I miss Panga world or dram world run was good hope next year they add it
can I have the code of the 2nd level please ??
SimplyAzura i dont think its 00000000000000
Nintendo deleted the second level which is why the level code is just zeroes
i dont want to do this youtube you annoy me Was there a glitch exploit? Why did Nintendo delete it... Such a cool level 😔
Sagan's showcase made me giggle so hard XD
Of all the runs i like this concept best!
What was the 'my toe' sound effect that plays briefly in the squirtle level when they get to the end before the first checkpoint? I've heard it before but I can't for the life of it remember where it's from.
The one from Turtles in Time?
@@Link-ho8yq yes it is
So impressive! My jaw was down the entire time by their skill. And that final level... now that is ending with a bang
I've always wanted to see how well speedrunners would do if they were blindfolded, so cliffy's level was so cool to me
That was awesome ! You got to keep SMM next year in the schedules !
cliffy is insane, blindfold
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not
The more I watch Mario maker the more I agree with honest trailers, look at those levels, they were clearly designed by a serial killer
Can we just appreciate how they didn't let jaku showcase one of his levels😂
Arnoud H it wasn’t that they didn’t let me, it’s that originally only 4 levels were suppose to be showcased. By the time all 6 of us could showcase a level I didn’t have time to make and practice a level and I obviously couldn’t also do an auto level.
Spike really is the Jinx king!
28:00 except they were over 6 minutes?
Don't be a stick in the mud, it's meant to be fun
Once Jebaited played to win, Stay Hydrated played for keeps
That chuck N level was too hard for this competition. How did this even get by testing?
I would say this was a highlight of sgdq18
blindfolded level at 1:13:49.
Aka auto-level :)
That Jaku comment about SMM2 on October 15th though. He just had to feed the rumor mill.
Tim Carr I mean to be fair I started the rumor of October 15th about 6 months ago. ;)
In the Mario Party level, after grabbing the coin couldn't they just leave in some of the minigames the way they came in? Like in the first one for example, with the spring.
Great Competived relay team race
Omg poo has legs
Lol that bowser dash clutch. Finishing at 6 on the dot.
Anyone know the name of the track used for the squirtle level around 19:00?
Turtles in Time - Sewer Surfin'
Can't escape the marbles...
I thought Carl Sagan was most well known as a scientist and author. Guess not....
CarlSagan42 (the one in this video) named his channel after the Carl Sagan your thinking of. Two different people.
ya guys mind doing tales of maj'eyal? an indie rogue-lite.it also support mods, which i'd love to see show-cased during the run.
These races are rad. Too bad some of the courses couldn't have been finished.
They put an autoscroller level in a speedrun race...
1:05:20 what level and creator is he talking about ?
lame way to do the draw....
Edit - This is definitely one of the best events of the marathon. Allocate some more time for it GDQ!! Like seriously, they only have 6 minutes per level??? The fuck are you on about? The races have always been like this.
@@-Devy- what are you on about? Go check the 2016 race - the one OP is talking about. This race format just reflects how GDQ 2018 was a mistake.
SGDQ HYPE!
Yeah! HYPEEEE!
I figured someone would yell hype right now
The eigth and ninth levels should have been swapped and the time per earlier stage beaten increased to 15 seconds. Why end with something that was almost one-shotted by each team?
27:48 - To be fair, Jaku DID run out of time. :p
xxxx85 was looking for this comment. it was a bit of a coverup lol.
#StayHydrated
Heck yeah dude
He's an online personality best known for Mario Maker
What kind of controller is carl using is that an wireless snes controller for the wii u???
The best part of this speedrun is twitch chat cheering for their teams
So sick!
Over 1.5?? Congrats, love you!!😙😙😙
That blind run was some dope witchcraft or super human feat of some kind....
It's that special brand of witchcraft called "automatic levels."
THAT BLINDFOLDED RUN BY CLIFFY WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"thats not even what im best known for!" LMAO
Man, that last level was SO anticlimactic... I think the 2nd to last level should have been the last one!
OKAY, but that last section? With all the swag levels? AMAZING! That blindfolded run? HOLY MOLY!!!
The blindfolded level is a bit of a joke. It's an autolevel. He just needs to hold right, up, and Y and the level completes itself.
I liked last years format for this race much more, nonetheless still great run!
What's with the estimate time? 60 minutes, not overflowing to 1 hour?
If the teams are waiting for each other to finish, how is this a race?
im am amaze in the blind folded one
Soo many Close Moment
and this is why i Watch GDQ!!!!!!!!!
So... Why is the estimate 0:60:00? Shouldn't it be 1:00:00? Just thought I'd point that out... XD
10 levels with 6 minutes each.
Basically the only reason to even watch this SGDQ and they give it an hour and 6 minute limit per stage...
ULTRA INSTINCT CARLSAGAN
What are the headset those guys are using?
great idea
27:53 They didn't really make it lol
nah. Try telling them that after all that hype
they deserved anyway
He did get it. The timer on the stream is about 1sec ahead of the timer that they were looking at
If you look and hear closely you can see it is still count.
After that bowser intentionally stalled for time and Jaku rushing forward to get that win, you just got to give it to them. It would've been a very dick move if the bowser stalling had cost them a win
DUUUUUDE MARIO PAINT.... I can't handle the nostalgia. (song is data robot)
