My QUESTION to You is Did you Bother to Ask BMW why there’s No rotary dial and what’s there thinking etc….Sadly from this video You seem Have Not too and just made a judgment….oh and why did you Not show the Luxury line as was there in white ?
a major fuck up if you ask me, an epic fail! The only way I control the infotainment is using the rotary knob. I hope they will not remove this at the next facelift of one series and I'll be able to get one with the current set up.
All these features are bullshit. They're not essential or necessities, but luxuries. As long as the car can take me from A to B safely and reliably I am good.
@@borinvlogs I think the same way but when they bury the essential stuff into a computer (radio / heater / heated seats) then they have no clue what we actually want
Yeah, it's just so brainless how people call this car a people mover since it's obviously a hatchback. Only thing that makes it different from many other hatchbacks is its higher roofline due to sharing the platform with X1 and Countryman.
Can’t agree more! I owned a long series of BMWs ending with the last 3 series. They became less and less enjoyable to drive from the pinnacle of a E46 M3 Coupe to the very disappointing F30 330d MSport (dead steering, awful visibility, terrible ride,) but with excellent infotainment. Can’t imagine buying another BMW in the foreseeable future.
@@ianelliott229 Did you drive G20? Because i have no idea what the hell are you talking about? Absolutely the best looking BMW in years, with perfect handling and interior.
The fact that you can't tell the difference between the Active Tourer and Gran Tourer shows that motoring-journalists (particularly in the UK) never really took this decent car seriously. Still it's caught your eyes now! As for this upcoming version, some improvements for sure - the old A-Pillar blind-spot issue looks like it's been addressed- but also some disappointments - iDrive 8 - and ones that are likely going to be introduced throughout BMWs other series'.
On top of that, mentioning old things like the microphones above the front seats, but not talking about important things such as how the old hybrid models came with a 6 speed manual gearbox really shows this guy doesn't know anything about the car. The 225xe is a very popular model where I live due to low taxation and the 4 wheel drive, but it gets so little coverage by the British media.
I’ve owned many BMW’s I have two at the moment, I’m a fan, but not of their new stuff. The front radiator treatment looks horrible, I’d need to be blind to accept that then the touch screen would put off, I’ve had touch screen controls for climate and it’s just dangerous.
This car, along with most new Bimmers, is an affront to car design, at least on the exterior. Since the F10, the F22 is the last good looking model that BMW has made, and even worse, more and more their cars are as lifeless and floaty as Mercedes (but much uglier).
There’s a reason why it’s happening.. voice recognition is getting cleverer. In five years, we won’t need any centre control buttons, although they’d be available as an option for those who prefer.
I am pleasantly surprised that BMW remained on the platform of the minivan. I have a BMW 218d / 2018, and I will definitely take this new model as well. The dimensions of this car are ideal for both city driving and highway. Driving characteristics are more than good and there is no need to waste words on BMW engines. Flawless!
@@I_THE_ME Think that’s just a term used in certain parts of the world. We would never call any passenger cars vans/minivans in the UK. But they do in Germany and USA etc.
What are BMW doing?! First they give their new cars ugly front nostrils, then make cars front wheel drive and now get rid of the rotary control for the iDrive system. Where as Mercedes and Audi (for me anyway) have done the opposite! Those two are more desirable for me now.
@@georgedowns4034 Don’t buy one. Looks fantastic and perfect for me. Love the dual screen set up. Very smart. My current one doesn’t even have Apple Car Play. This new one looks excellent.
It does make me wonder who they do product testing with. The rotary dial since it was introduced has been a game changer. I've driven some cars which have a touch pad similar to most laptops which is also OK, but touch screens as the main input mechanism isn't good from a usability perspective. As the screen becomes covered in finger prints the inputs often degrade so a backward step for me although possibly not a deal breaker.
I have 225i sport version. Fun to drive with practical and lots of space. This new looks beautiful but no físicas buttons and majority voice control may kill one of the best infotainment system ever.
I just notice, there is no iDrive controller wheel at the center console anymore in this all-new 2-Series Active Tourer.. Whereas in the BMW iX SAV, i4 Gran Coupe, and 4-Series Gran Coupe which all use the same and latest Operating System 8, the iDrive controller wheel is still there... Why...?
I think it is because of Tesla. Tesla's became desirable and have no buttons so designers wanted to be cool. Problem is Tesla's have amazing performance, range, are fully electric and don't look like guinea pigs.
BMW have really lost their design way on this new series of cars. Hideous front grill that looks like a sticker decal ??! Seems pretty cramped in the back so small people only, and really small boot.
Surprised no Adaptive Cruise control or even option, just standard cruise control included which is poor for a Tourer model although this may be because of parts shortages (plugin model)
Mostly it appears to be an improvement, albeit I'm not a fan of BMW's new grilles. However, the big problem for me would be the lack of a rotary controller. Touchscreens are all about showroom appeal, not driver usability on the road. Audi started this stupidity with deletion of their rotary controller but I thought BMW management were sensible enough not to follow suit - how wrong I was.
Do car BMW designers/engineers not listen to not Listen to the public must they just do what other manufacturers do and insist on coming up with ugly front grills and now doing away with idrive!!!
They don’t. Most pre production reviewers of the latest VW models were saying the haptic feedback infotainment controls were terrible but they kept them. It’ll be the same with BMW. These new controllers are cheaper to manufacture.
Agree. This is a major step backwards. I tested a volvo v60 with its silly screen only interface before settling on my 3 series touring. I said to the volvo salesman that i thought volvo was about safety... i spent more time faffing with the flaming screen that i found made it too distracting to drive. For me idrive wins hands down. Are manufacturers actually bothering to use these things whilst on the move? Their 'hey' functions are mostly garbage too. I will never buy a car with no physical buttons to interface with.
Just use voice control for climate control both fan and temperature are adjustable. Been doing that on my 2020 1 series for the past one year… works flawlessly. Can even control with voice whether fans blows at chest and/or feet without buttons. Frankly, I don’t use the rotary dial on the 1 now as much compared to my old 2GT with old operating system. That’s because the new 1 has a touchscreen rendering the dial almost redundant. Just takes up space now, really. So I can see why they might want to remove it, especially for a smaller car where space is more of a premium?
why are you comparing the active tourer with the old grand tourer. Fair would be to compare the side view of the new active tourer with old active tourer side view. The largest wheels on the previous generation was also 19"

Looks like it is less practical than the old car, why no 7 seat version? Much prefer the styling though and from experience of using the touchscreen and voice control set-up in my Audi, motoring journalists make way too much of this issue, you soon get used to it.
The angle of the windscreen is not the correct angle to reflect the HUD image, hence the Mickey Mouse version on this car, just like the previous model.
I don't know why they persist with calling this a 2 Series (same with the Gran Coupe). Leave the 1 Series badge for the FWD stuff! And it looks different to the last one? No it doesn't - it's the same car with a bigger grille and new lights. Woo... Well done BMW! Not.
