Old mower I have had the same issue (dry rot cracks on sidewall) and I put green slime in the tires. It took a little time but same results - tires hold air pretty good now. My cracks were so bad that the slime was actually oozing out the cracks on the side of the tire… but it still sealed them. These are low speed tires so it’s not going to hurt to pump twice the recommended amount in there if that’s what it takes to seal the side wall.

    Question ?
    I just received a 1988 jeep Cherokee XJ . 4.0L , 5 speed manual.
My son bought a Chevy truck with a new 5.7L JEG engine. So he gave me (his dad) the jeep.
Now there's a reason why he gave it to me.
Mainly I have found these 4x4 jeep Cherokee XJ (2 door) with a 4.0L engine ,
    Has issues ?
    A lot of issues.
We have replaced just about everything electric or electronic on this jeep.
Now it would start but shut down but never run. I had to drive 60 Miles in way to get the jeep with the trailer.
Now it might run for weeks then it won't stay running for more weeks ?
We replace the timing sensor by the flywheel.
    Just because it was cheap.
( If a jeep won't start try unplugging that sensor and disconnect the battery for 15 minutes) you be surprised they will fire up !
Replaced coil and the brain or controller the coil mounts to.
Replaced the distributor with a new one. (.rock auto $60 plus s&h).
We also bought the electronics that go in the renix intake for idle and air control ?
    Those aren't cheap !
Replaced the fuel pump ! $100 plus .
New fuel filters. I added a smaller metal filter between the tank and factory framed mounted filter.
    ($18.99 & $9.00 each).
We ended up.by passing the fuel pump rheostat as I call it .
Basically it reduces the voltage from 12v to like.5.5v . I just put a jumper wire across to the terminals. Yes Yu can hear the pump but it's running !
We replaced the spark plugs and wires .
Now I see this jeep looks to have 2 test ports up by A/c but I haven't seen a tester to try on it yet ?
Now a few weeks back it went into it's not starting mode ! That thing just would not run, it wouldn't fire for but 2 seconds then shut down.
Finally after a few weeks of thinking I decided to replace the module up by the battery ?. Now we had replaced one the A/C and another for another reason that slips my memory. But after putting a ford module I had the jeep fired right up ! Yea !
Well now a store (circle K ) here in Florida . Well the delivery driver put Diesel in the gas tanks.
So the engine started to missing on a cylinder (s) . So I pulled the filters & found nasty fuel !!
So i decided to drain all 21 gallons of fuel. But new filters , and buy New fuel injectors off eBay . ( Hopefully they will work )(4 hole 19 lb is what I bought) replaced the factory single ..
Put gas back in last night and plan on trying to see if it will run without
missing ?? I'm hoping that Deisel mixed in the gas hasn't blown a head gasket or head damage ?.
I'll advise if all these repairs will work ??
Now the only thing I have not replaced is the ECM mounted under the dash ? I have to call the dealer to find out the ECM number my jeep calls for ?
I think it needs replacement? I don't know the yellow engine light when you turn the key on ? The net states that light should blink for codes if no yellow light then the ECM is bad ??
    Any advice on that ??
What's that rem board your doing for ?
Yea my clock does not work either.
Also on fuel injectors I've been told dodge neon injectors work ??
    Please advise by email.

dam thats rough, best of luck. I would suggest next time it goes into not running mode that you check weather you are missing fuel or spark or both, check your fuel pressure for sure and confirm its good. I don’t think the Renix jeeps ever had any type of onboard fault code flashing light thingys.

Just to confirm you only filled them with slime the one time then just re-aired them each week when you needed to mow?

Correct, after the recommended amount of slime was added initially, it was all air from there.

@@NickInTimeFilms I think he was being a smart butt. Because you had to air them up every time before the Slime also. But being the issue it was no wonder it took refilling with air numerous times I use slime and I'm very impressed it fixed the sidewalls I wouldn't think it would

I suddenly feel better about never having ever cleaned off my mower or watered my grass. I wasn't even going to tell everybody half the tires are full of slime now.

Ahh, yeah a car tire might take more work, but I would check for nails in the tread and plug it with proper plug kit or take it to a shop, they usually do it for cheap.

Slime is awesome for guys who mow commercially. I have old dry rotted tires on all of my mowers because they are all old machines. The poster of this video is correct about the sidewalk leaks. It takes more time for the slime to work itself to that part of the tire. And like he said, if you pull the wheel off and lay it on its side, the slime will fill in the sidewalk leaks faster. I run my tires until completely bald before buying new ones. Every time I see a small green spot on a tire, I know the slime just sealed another puncture and saved me time and money.
