For this week's sky practice, I've divided my page into 4 with masking tape and paint 4 different skies, 2 for practice and 2 for experimentation.
I'm trying out our new handmade paints in half pans today in Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue and Davidson's Grey. You can of course paint these with any brand of paint in the same coloirs, or your own favourite sky colours. You can substitute Paynes Grey for Davidson's grey.
I'm using Millford cold pressed 140lb/300g weight paper, and various brushes as mentioned in the video, but use what wever brushes you are happiest with.

THANK YOU!!!! I’ve tossed out countless reams of paper and watched hours of videos and have not been able to achieve the desired cloud effect until your video. The second sky is absolutely perfect and easy to achieve. So glad I stumbled upon your videos! Have a wonderful New Year!🎉

Oh my! I tried the second sky this morning and it was MAGIC! I think we get hung up on trying to paint the shapes of clouds by painting around those shapes which never look natural. I love lifting paint, but have never just painted a solid sky and then lifting as you did with a flat brush! Thank you!!!

I like the way you used your brush to make the clouds - nice

So timely. I'm on holiday in Scotland and have my half pan paints to paint a mini sky a day! I'm trying to build confidence to paint skies without watching a video as I go! Thank you

Lois, you are so inspiring! How exciting to have your own handmade pigments. The Escoda brush you are using, it looks like such a great versatile brush..even on small paintings.
