When i was a kid a lot of old timers would carry a WW2 empty canteen holder and put all their outdoor necessities in them, kinda of a fanny pack long before there was such a thing.
Love this fella. PERTINENT. Great value. Listen to him.
Awesome belt kit, can I ask what scope you have on your rifle?
what about the UTG 2-7x44 30mm long eye relief scout scope?
if you do this again please do a low light test, look through the scopes with 10-15 minutes of natural light left and compare clarity and light gathering ability please. Great series of videos by the way, very thankful
Watch part 2.
Hello, have you had a chance to test if the Sightmark is night vision compatible? Thanks.
It is indeed NV compatible but that will be a different video.
Glad to see your using leather, good treatment will last for years. To old now to romp around in the woods but leather gear and wool jackets was my choice nice video.
Can you provide a link to the qd mounts you had your gunsmith use please.
I know this is an older video but I'm going to get an eighth round 357 Magnum which one is that in particular?
;-)
i like your set up, i wish i could get a stock like that for my scout.
Very prepared I must say.
Ugghh! Man bun.
I think my favorite thing about you is that you really use your “go to rifle” heavily. Whether or not theory backs up if it’s the most efficient tool or setup, your personal experience with the rifle proves that it exceeds in the job that you use it for. It also seems like your marksmanship skills make up for whatever shortcomings may exist. In the novel manuscript I’ve been working on, my protagonist uses this rifle and is a lot like you. He’s incredibly experienced on the rifle and rejects more modern options because the gun has served him well and continues to do so.
Thank you!
Nice rig!
Well thought out set up. If looked after properly it will outlast you.subscribed.
I always loved the .410 with its variety of shot along with slugs. Happy hunting bud👍
Love my M1 carbine. I paid dearly for it. Had Fulton Armory make me one in 2020 when I got a deal on some surplus ammunition out of Korea. Worth the 6 months wait time. I did put a rail up top with a forward mounted holosun red dot.
I have a 1968 hunters pal puma . Great knife.
That setup is classy! Really smart and well thought out. I’ve always tried to attach gear to my pants belt and it’s just frustrating. Having an external belt, and seeing how you use it, is excellent.
I fw with your vibe and channel
Have you every guided someone with a foot disability? I got my foot crushed. And probably won’t be the same ever again. And was curious if you might have learned some tricks when someone has that kind of problem.
The knife you have on your belt kit was the first knife I bought when I joined the British Army in 1974. Still got it to this day.
Dude where did you get that parka??? Gorgeous! Also, what I’ve found to work well with a back pack and even LBE, is a chest carry for the pistol. When squirrel hunting I’ve got my marlin 39A and then a 1911 chest carried with buffalo bore for anything f that wants to steal my squirrels. Doing this might free up some space for a musset or satchel or something. Anyways, excellent kit. Love to see it. People get too caught up in lightweight and nylon. Seeing leather and bolt actions… especially lever actions…. With purposeful kit, absolutely rules. P.S. will you please do a video on your modded artic mags for your Ruger scout!?!?!?
@@jojobrimhall5161 the most demanded video right now is ththe arctic warfare!
Cool
Ahh I think this guy was on naked and afraid! He was the geek that defied the odds and made it! One of my favorite episodes
What was the optic setup? Great vid. Subbing
Primary Arms 2x GLX!
It's Weatherwool and Heatstraps for me! With Duckworth base layers. You just can't beat em. Plus I totally gave up on Filson once they took manufacturing out of the US. Id rather support home grown small businesses and pay a bit extra. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Hi, you might find that if you warm the tank with your hands for a minute or two, or even place it on a warm rock in the sun, etc. you can then crack the valve and fuel will trickle out and down into the priming bowl. I am able to do this with my Optimus no. 71, which is the same design. Nothing wrong with your priming method, just thought I'd share.
At the end of the day, I love my modern chest rigs, helmets, armor, NVGs just as much as the next guy. But realistically, something like this plus a decent pack (and often a bandolier in my case) is what I’m going to be wearing 99% of the time I’m carrying a long gun for anything other than LARPing for the rest of my life. Well done.
Any update on the Mag well modification for accepting AIAW Magazine?
Will get to it soon. The AW mag is one of the most demanded videos so far but quite niche.
Love the scout rifle. I built mine when I was in gunsmithing school off a Remington 700 action. All of my teachers, being staunch traditionalists, hated the Scout Rifle aesthetics. One told me it was the most painful "A" he ever gave, but I love that rifle.
Happy New Year! Need help. Cannot make final decision regarding illuminated VS non illuminated reticle. What is your preference and why. Really appreciate any help.
Do you still recommend Van Dorsten Custom Firearms for work on scout rifles or is there someone else you'd suggest?
Scott Van Dorsten is one of the premier scout rifle gunsmiths. Hes done good work for my GSR. I also have a good working relationship with a good local gunsmith for smaller projects.
Tbh I love this set up. It better getting like the latest hunting gear that will cost a lot of money. Here you got setup where you can use it for hunting, camping, hiking also give a nostalgia vintage feel of the old early 1900s style hunters.
Looks pretty cool man. Only trouble is leather is heavy, especially if you get caught out in the rain. I know this because Im a carpenter, I wear leather tool bags everyday and although they last, they are much heavier than other materials.
Tip, Top.👍
Excellent long-term review
I recently learned that I can do this with my Savage 99s and I suspect that other hunting rifles can do the same. Cool to see that the GSR can do it too. I've always preferred carrying clips when I'm in the woods because they're cheap and easier to carry.
So you gonna eat an whole elk by yourself? Why not small game?
I thought about the error of my ways and I joined PETA.
Hello! I am curious to know how you feel the action has held up. I’m assuming fantastic, and could share how many approximate rounds you have on the rig?
I have 2 of the hi-lux scopes. One on a m1 Garand and the other on a model 38 Swede. Love them both...no issues
@@dougbarberousse2162 likely one of the best scout scopes on the market right now.
Well done
Triple k ? Like KKK lol
Thank you for this series of reviews. I've been a scout scope and scout rifle enthusiast since the early eighties. I corresponded with Mr. Cooper in regards to several of my Scout builds, a 7mm-08 Browning BLR, a .223 left hand Kimber M84, and a .270 Win Sauer 200. He was very supportive and always looking to improve upon the concept, although he told me he was against a variable scope as he didn't feel it was needed and might be less reliable. The concept was of course not just about the snap shooting optics but also that the rifle was light weight, and easy to carry because the rifle could be grasped around the action, and there is easy access to the action to load and clear rounds. As an all around rifle it was primarily meant to be handy and used within 300 yards or so because very few people ever have reason to shoot beyond that range. If a longer shot was needed, it could be done, as you have so well demonstrated. I currently use the Burris 2-7 on my Winchester M94 and a .223 AR with a Gibbz NR upper. If / when a better quality scout scope comes out with features like better glass, higher magnification (2 - 10?), quality turrets and a parallax adjustment, I'd buy it.
@@tross8908 so glad to see students of Col Cooper carry on his legacy!
@@OnTheScout Yes, he has a lasting legacy.
Good job. I have no real need for a scout rifle, but I sure do want one!
I love the setup...I'm building my first scout rifle....
It will be a great hunting and woods rifle. Let me know how the build goes
Just don't let that diamond stone scratch that mag, wrap some plastic around her. Great kit! Who makes the flap holster? Superb setup similar to mine.
