Can you imagine the modern Airbus 380 and the 747 have been taken out of service and yet the old DC3 keeps on ticking. Amazing.
The DC-3 has been around for twice my age plus a couple of years. It still is one of my favorite planes ever. Big, sturdy, manual.

Most excellent Joe and Mikey! What a different world this would be if everyone loved their job and had a passion for it that Joe does, especially for over 50 years! Joe's way of teaching with analogies not only reinforces the information, but it also puts a smile on your face. Knowing Joe's high standards and expectations in the cockpit, his way of explaining things seems to provide a perfect balance between the fun of flying and the expectation that a student master every detail of piloting the aircraft.
Ole Billy Robert's 'government name' is actually Mikey too, so from one Mikey to another, "This Mikey Likes it (a lot!)."
Awesome Mikey. Every time I hear a radial start it sends a shiver down my spine, especially on a DC-3. ☺️☺️
I had a DC-3 fuel inspection valve stick open at a jungle airstrip in Brazil. We couldn't fix it with what we had.
So I put my finger on it to stop the fuel flow until we could find a small enough tree branch twig to plug the opening and then waited for 5 hours until one our mechanics flew in to fix it.
The bleed valve pintle was badly oxidized from water corrosion. You just never know what is going to break or happen in the outback..
I remember thinking if we had not had the leak on the ground but up in the air, how fast fuel would have siphoned out of tank.
The voice of a master.
And don't forget to sniff what was in the sump, make sure it's not straight water.
I have had that happen!
Good Ole Buffalo Joe! A living Legend!
I've been enamoured with the DC-3 every since I saw (as a child) the Bugs Bunny cartoon with "the gremlin," (The Falling Hare, 1943). Came to learn later as an adult that this plane had, up to that era, was the most successful, safest, most sturdy and reliable plane ever designed, and one of the leading factors in the success and victory of the United States in WWII. Like a Cadillac, you can't kill a DC-3 unless you neglect it. The mere silhouette of a DC-3 speaks to me and I think I could spot one in the air at one mile but this is such a rare treat.
Amazingly put together from the music to the camera angles.
I never thought Joe would do videos like this after he has been asked many times on livestream and now it is happening. Cannot wait to the storh to continue. Absolutely epic

When I got to go flying with a friend we done a walk around and I enjoy doing it, and I got to know the plane better, he always said if we have trouble up there we don't have a cloud hook to hang on to to wait for a tow truck LOL,
