I love the implication of the Quake 3 reference, that some of the troopers were having a lan-party when you game in and killed everyone lol. Also that the guy playing thought to type chat "oh shit she's here" rather then just turn his head and say it to the guys right in the same room lol
one of the phrases Shelly says when she explodes an enemy is "you gotta keep 'em separated", which is a reference to Offspring's song "Come Out and Play"
sometimes when Shelly grabs a bowling bomb she says "i've got a present for ya", which is a reference to Commandos in Command & Conquer
she also says "dance fucker dance" sometimes, could also be an Offspring reference to the song "You're Gonna Go Far Kid"

It's pretty cool that the devs put in all that info in the final level explaining how everything works for those who are interested.
Agreed. They knew that fans were going to tear this game apart and figure out how it ticks, anyways, so they just put the devnotes in the game for the sake of future modders. Extra cool considering how many _absolutely batshit hacky tricks_ they had to use to get the engine to do what it does in this game. Anyone who's ever tried to make anything in BUILD can appreciate what an absolute clusterfuck nightmare this game's development must have been.
Makes me sad that there is no fan made content for this game. Hope release of Aftershock will help.
The Blood Run map is actually the Quake 1 version. The Darkplace joke is a reference to Darkplaces, which is a heavily modified sourceport for Quake 1.
The Darkplace line is a quote (or near-quote) from Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, a TV show. But I wouldn't be surprised if that connection was intended.
The E 621 got removed in the latest update, now it's M5 G.
@Nasmarowany I'll never understand why anthropomorphic animals are the most outrageous thing on the internet, back in the 80's and 90's they were considered cool and fun.
@@SynthLizard8I believe it's because the internet gave way to validification of a lot of other fetishes (not just furries) and whereas things like fetishes and sex addiction were taboo and stigmatised before- have since only grown, as like-minded people found one another through specialised forums and simultaneously religious values that once dominated the developed world have ever diminished. This idea of free-thinking and lack of societal values means that anything goes and people's stigmas and insatiable desires are only developed further and made more degenerative.
The widespread acceptance of furries has only festered in people's minds to believe that any anthropomorphic animals are inherently sexualised or otherwise possess an ulterior motive. Once you get that fucked up idea in your head, any minor reference only inhibits it.

Because of the huge prominence of suggestive artwork that makes it difficult to think that furries aren't only into sexual stuff... well, you've done a poor job conveying that.
And if other fandoms are like that, why is the furry fandom feel more risqué compared to other normal fandoms by comparison?
Honestly, it feels really weird having a game that has references to old films and a wholesome message by one of the devs that this game was dedicated to both of his daughters, and then someone included a reference to an image website with mostly gross art in it. Now I know why they removed it, someone caught wind of this and removed it because it wasn't appropriate and felt really weird.

About the bit at 06:23 - E621 is also the E number for monosodium glutamate, a common flavoring additive used to give foods a "savory" or "umami" taste.
Also, you missed an egg in that same room: "Sugar", "Spice", and "Product X". Anyone who's familiar with late-90s Cartoon Network shows will know what THAT'S a nod to.

The message in the Quake 3 room is a reference to the show Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
I love that hidden red room in 3-1, heck, you could do an entire video on just Duke Nukem references, haha.
Also the message at 8:57 is a reference to the Command & Conquer games.
"Ancient Chinese Secret" was even a reference or egg if you want to call it that back in Shadow Warrior '97. It referred to an advertisement for a product called Calgon back in the 70's and 80's. Some kind of laundry softener. Search youtube for "calgon ancient chinese secret"
You might have missed an Easter egg in Heskel's House of Horrors. I'm pretty sure the truck you see parked just outside the gate is a reference to Dangerous Dave's truck as seen at the start of Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion.

6:16 While it may be referencing that particular site E-621 is also a code for Monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is used as a flavour additive in foods and has been debated as to whether or not it causes health problems. However the FDA has designated it as safe for consumption. I am inclined to believe it is referencing this and not the furry porn site.

fun fact, that "welcome to my DARKPLACE!" message is a reference to a source port of quake 1, which is called darkplaces. its most famously used to run Quake Reforged and Quake 1.5
It’s actually a word-for-word quote from a British TV series called Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.
The title sequence to every episode ends with the line “You’re about to enter my darkplace”.
Though being inside the Q3 easter egg, I’ve no doubt it is also referencing the Darkplaces source port too.
Sort of a multilayered egg.
Those little spider things somehow remind me of mini arachnatrons from Doom. Not sure if that's on purpose or not. Wouldn't surprise me.
The "Werewolves not swearwolves" message is a reference to the movie What We Do In The Shadows. Great movie.
Secret message at 16:28 is a reference to the movie, what we do in the night. A vampire mockumentary about vampire roomates, pretty funny!
I can't be certain what MDK was in reference to, but the scene from Blade Runner where Roy dies, there is a neon billboard on the roof for Japanese electronics company TDK (mostly recording and data storage media). I figured one of the letters was just changed to avoid having a corporation's true logo likeness in the game.
Wait, seriously? That random stream of gibberish in a dev room and the lotion joke were what the games "journalists" were all pissy about? How insane lol

OMG I literally blasted the crack in the cinema screen . Went out and thought there wasn't really anything but the patch of grass; can't believe it if I'd just bothered to explore more I could've found that Red Room from Duke Nukem 3D. When you complete the game and miss secrets like these you can't help but think " I completed Ion Fury..... ER NO I DIDN'T" :D

Late to the party, but there are also a lot of references to old 80s and 90s tech; Computer screens will show boot screens for Linux, Midnight Commander, Amiga guru meditations etc. In the office building section there is a meeting room showing assembly code on a projector screen. This is valid C64 code and when run will play the beginning of the Duke Nukem 3D theme.

If i look well, you miss one. In metro level. After pass the newspapershop, near the lounge bar, there is a WC (in the same corridor you have to run for go to the chernovil easter egg). Just up the wc are a ventilation tube. In it there is a paper toilet roll, and a "white stain" from a voyeur.

Another easter egg is how the evil scientist in the last level previous to the level to the final boss of the game. The scientist appears as an hologram of a floatting head very reminicent of Shodan from System Shock 2.
i know this is late as hell but i think in the instance of Ion Fury, while yes it can still be a furry porn joke. i believe it to be another meaning. the designation in chemistry e621 is for Monosodium Glutamate or MSG, that wonderful flavor enhancer all your favorite asian fast food places use instead of salt. also. some may say its harmful. but it occours naturally in certain foods.

Like the cultistis jizzatorium there at 12:38 there's another spot in the game similar. In the subway terminal level there's a bathroom with a vent over the toilet. Out in the hallway shoot the big painting and there's a vent opening, if you go in the vent to where the vent is over the toilet there's a roll of toilet paper and a jizz stain in the vent indicating some guy was in there watching ladies pee.. or guys...
