  • It is easy to pigeon-hole all engineering careers as being heavy on math and tedium and light on variety and fun. At least, that is how Subhashini thought about engineering even as her father encouraged her to pursue a career in engineering. Then she discovered the world of Industrial Systems Engineering, and her whole concept of engineering changed. From her experience as an “ISE” working in the disparate worlds of Pokemon Go and Disneyland logistics to computing hardware design and emergency paramedics response, Subhashini shows how the work life of an “ISE” is as invigorating as it is technical. Subhashini Ganapathy is an educator and a leader in the area of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Wright State University. Her interests are in exploring fundamental and applied research in the area of Human Computer Interaction. Subhashini has published over 50 articles in premier journals, conferences, and as book chapters. She holds 3 patents in the area of mobile augmented reality. Prior to joining WSU, she was a senior user experience researcher at Intel Corporation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This is great! I sent this to my son. It's hard for the kids to figure out career fields without understanding what kinds of projects/opportunities are available.

4:01 - Disney calls them "Imagineers" - I went to the University of Florida (1981) with a kid who's father was an Imagineer, and he had the coolest engineering notebooks complete with the Disney Imagineering logo...
