Thank you! I needed to hear this today. I have been in my "temporary" home for 35 years. I hate it. But it is ours. We raised 3 children here. I will change my mindset. I have 35 years of accumulation that some days seems impossible to go through. But nothing will change unless I start somewhere. You are such a blessing.
I’ve been in my temporary home for 18 years and I hate it too. But, it’s home and it’s where my kids call home. I’ve been working on getting my home in order too. This was a great message to hear today. ❤
Check out Dana K White. She has an easy No Mess decluttering method that helps so much
I needed to hear this also!!
25 years in my "temporary " house. Learning to take better care of what I've been blessed with.
Also, check out The Minimal Mom.
I really enjoyed Ezra coming to visit with us. He is thoughtful, and good company, and has all the dedication in the world to make sure that sugar gets properly stirred into his tea. I'm glad you stopped to talk to him, and that we got to share that time with him.
He’s charming. ❤
He melts my heart, like that sugar in his tea xx
That Native American drawing on the chalkboard is beautiful. You have an incredibly talented artist on your hands ❤️
My friend Michael drew that and I loved it so much I’ve left it there for months
Love you, Jess.😊
It would be a great on any and all swag.😉
@@RootsandRefugeFarmjust don’t tell them that I’m crazy!!😁💯
Moral of the story: Be grateful for what you have now. You're a wise woman, Jess. 🙏🏿💜
The content in this video is one of the reasons I adore this family, real to the core. No sensationalism , just real life spoken and lived from the heart.
Wow,thank you for that message from the Lord. I hear you speaking like a Profit in my life. ❤ Thank you Lord for using Jess to bring strength, hope and encouragement to so many people. 😊
You only have so many days….. don’t waste any of them longing for tomorrow. Live your life giving it your best every day. Joy and happiness will always flow if you do. While things can always be better….things are always much better than we realize they are. Cleaning up and cleaning out, both psychologically and physically is so beneficial to finding contentment.
“Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” Love this mindset shift!
This video really helped me. I'm almost 77 and have lived in this house for 34 years. I have let this house go to the point that I feel uneasy here. I realized during your video that there is plenty I can still do myself to help bring the peace back and still more that can be accomplished with a little help from my family and friends. Thank you for that insight! 😊❤
Uneasy interesting term. Recently my son has pointed out so problems & solutions so much time and money. I feel overwhelmed
Tackle the problems 1 PC at a time!
I'm 60. Have lived in what I hope to be my last house, for 5 years now. It's frustrating how much I've let slide in those years. I need to reorganize, I need to declutter. I've spent the summer canning and preserving and my kitchen / dining room is in a state of chaos. I've always struggled with house cleaning. I try not to be gross though. Unfinished projects and paper work clog up my life. It's overwhelming at times. I used to go through my entire home once a year to declutter. Now I've got boxes of stuff in the basement I really haven't touched since moving here. This video was really good and a good reminder. I'll just keep plugging away.
Jess I can’t believe you are talking about getting your house in order! I am literally giggling as I’m in the middle of getting my house in order. I’m 71. Widowed. I feel this powerful force to be very realistic on what I need in order to live a happy life. I’ve been at it slow and steady for weeks. I’m so driven! I opened a kitchen cupboard and saw a pile of dinner plates (19) to be exact. I’m one person! The most I need is maybe 10 for family gathering. Lolol. So out they came and went in the donate bin. Every drawer and cupboard and the pantry has been totally gone thru. I’m being brutal! No emotional attachment - I do not need 28 glasses and mugs. 😂😂😂😂. I can’t possibly drink that much. I’m telling you it is so empowering to get your house in order and honor the items you need! Thanks for making me smile as you and I and Miah are doing the exact same thing! 💕💕💕
Sounds similar to "Swedish Death Cleaning." Don't get upset, it's actually a caring and thoughtful way to look at what you're doing.
I'm in Melbourne Australia. I'm in my early 50s. I'm doing the same. I feel the need to "travel light". I still have my things I want to enjoy though. But yes it feels urgent, like the homesteading urge. I've noticed this everywhere. The charity shops are full.
@@mmiller327 I’m so not upset! 🤗. The opposite actually. I’m so happy that I’m freeing myself of stuff that I don’t need.
I need to really get serious about getting my house in order! I just need someone to keep me from getting so distracted 😂
@susandestefano1820 at the moment I wish I wasn't getting "distracted" from decluttering by laundry, grocery shopping and work! I think about all the areas I have to go yet when I'm in bed at night!! But I've been at it for 18 months and its taking aaaaages. One area is in the roof and I suddenly find myself reluctant to get up there. Wish I'd done it years ago. The sooner you start the better is my advice.
This seems to be a common message for a lot of us lately. I have lived in my current house for 28 years and treated as my home "for now". Well, it will probably be my last one,vso i am doing the same. Cleaning every closet, cupboard and personalizing every space to our needs.
As you get older it’s very easy to get rid of STUFF. Less to keep track of you can clean and keep it organized very quickly! Downsizing is so good for the spirit!!❤
I keep telling my husband as we move houses, "We have to wade through this garbage to find the things that are valuable and useful."
“I thought it would only happen once” was so real. We all sometimes have to go a couple rounds with experiential process. “Lessons are repeated until they are learned.”
If no one has told you this lately, I will tell you: You are an incredible blessing on you-tube. I feel so lucky to watch your videos. I'd talk more, but I need to go clean out my stuck, crammed full, junk drawers! I really do enjoy your videos. Thank you! :-)
Jess I needed this message today. I bought my country home with cash 6 years ago. The house has foundation problems. It’s 116 years old. I bought it with the intent to live in it while I saved to build a new house and tear this one down. Which breaks my heart to do. I don’t need 2 houses. I feel like I have made this house into a home, and because of that she has shown me how I can live out my life on this piece of land in gods country. Kim
Some people wait their entire lives for everything to fall into place before they think they can be truly happy - find the perfect partner, the perfect job, the perfect house, the perfect garden, the perfect homestead - and on and on. And then suddenly their life is coming to an end, and they never really enjoyed it or took pride in everything they had indeed accomplished. Like you said, dreaming and planning are fine and fun, but living in the moment and having gratitude every day for the blessing of just being alive is the key to peace in your life.
I’m glad Ezra is healing properly. Man, when you make these videos it always happens to be when I need it the most. Thank you! 💜
He looks so much like your husband, Mia
Wow! Third time the Lord has brought this very topic up to me this week! LOL! I think He really wanted to make sure I got the message! Yes Sir... I hear you! Thank you Jessica! Blessings on your family and your beautiful homestead!🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
I love your glass house. I’ve been with you for almost as long as you had a channel. I’ve watched your kids grow up, heck I’ve watt you grow up. I love the fact that you share the good, the bad and the ugly. Granted it’s mostly good , but when tragedy hits you share that. Even something as mundane as cleaning your house you show us how it can impact your life. My darling you are amazing, thank you for bringing us along!
I’m not far into the video and I can already tell this video is for me and definitely the Holy Spirit working through you. I’ve been IN LOVE with Tennessee for years, it gets my heart moving when I think of the mountains. And when my mom passed last year, we moved into her house. But my dreams/focus was still on TN. But lately I’ve been pondering on this house that the Lord blessed our family with (if you knew the testimony 😭). How do we make the most of the blessings He gave us? Multiply is the key word. Amazing ❤
Your videos are always so timely. I cleaned out my fridge today and my husband and son are rebuilding our rotting deck. You are so right! We want our farm, but right now we have an HOA and a beautiful house and garden. It has to be enough until God says it’s time.
Ezra is just so cute! I really miss my young precious sweet sons, who are all adults now. All your sons bring me back too the years that pass to quickly.
❤ love the message!!!
Ezra, you have grown into a handsome young man, even with a twice broken arm. I'm so glad you could teach us how to dissolve the sugar in your tea before adding cream. Did you know the area that is healing in your arm will be stronger than the rest of your arm because of the way the break knits together?
Wow Jes you not only live it you can explain it to us all, to get it ❤️❤️❤️
Being vulnerable is one of the things I like about watching your family. It's REAL life. Thank you!
Oh, key phrase that absolutely spoke to me. Waiting on the dream, but exercising contentment in the moment.
For the record, mobile home or not, your home is lovely. I really love that large island in the kitchen.
Thank you for asking to put them on the videos. I respect that so much
Thank you for making me accountable as you've been making yourself. I needed to hear this again today and probably like a dozen more times in the future. I'd love to follow you on this journey. My reality of not having a house built was a year ago and I never looked at it like this. I appreciate you for changing my grimy and honestly negative glasses into shiny and new ones. ❤
Ok well this must have been said just for me!
We have a tiny camper 8 years and I've been on hold for building our home and we make our entire lives temporary. Wow.
Never realized it until now. ❤❤
What a sweet smile after you said "nice tea brewing instructions". It was a genuine smile.
Jess, I say this with years in my eyes: not only did I make my first ever purchase from Beulah tonight (and I am VERY excited about that!) but i just had to tell you, you blessed me so much tonight. And I wanted to say thank you, sincerely, from my heart.
Thank you Jess ❤
We also have 6 kids. Our youngest is a newborn and the others are almost 2, kinder, 2nd grade, and our twins are starting 8th grade this year. I homeschool them all. Being freshly post partum has been a lot of me finding myself crying out to God and telling Him how sorry I am that I'm not able to steward well the blessings He has given us right now and a lot of asking Him to just be with me.
(I know He always is, but it's a sweet prayer of mine that came about by my husband asking what I needed one day when I was all out of sorts. "Please just be with me." And now I pray that often.)
ANYWAY, thank you again. I feel an encouraging nudge. That we can do this. That I can school these kids of diff ages. That my dishes and laundry will one day be under control and I can enjoy sweet moments with my kiddos more often than just managing them all and being in survival mode 24/7.
(The teenagers help out a fair amount btw. I just struggle with feeling guilty to ask/direct. But I know, and they know, it's better for them to help. They'll be better off as adults, we help out family, and it's just hard right now.)
Anyway, blessings and love from my family to yours girl. You're doing wonderful, and I'm better off in a small way because of what you share. Appreciate you. Love you ❤🤟🤗
I enjoy a good tea! And I'm learning to be happy with where I am and turning my waiting room into a classroom too
I can’t afford a pressure canner so in order to preserve I purchased an actual Amish cookbook and am learning from the older generations how to water bath. It may just save us. I’m respectful but not afraid to use the practices that have been used for generations. We’ve built everything and have to make hard choices in all our decisions in order to survive and not be in debt.
God help us all
Maybe you can double the produce you can in a water bath and your friend can double what they do in a pressure canner. You can share with each other and do less work. It’s a thought!
@@marybethwhalen70 ,
I wish… we live in an area where no one thinks anything is gonna get worse. Lots of land and money. We literally don’t know anyone who even grows food. Animals or garden. It’s soooo crazy and sad. People think we are nuts. Or they just comment how “cool” it is that we do so much. We also have leaf cutter ant here and most people give up real quick cause they don’t know how to combat them. We’ve learned a ton and keep going despite. I’m 10 years ahead of the people I know. I think some are starting to get curious but omg….im self taught through tons of TH-cam and internet and books. I’m trying to do it all with me and my tiny family of 3. We are winning overall so I try to not complain. I just get tired sometimes. We are at same time trying to fix up our home which needs lots of work. Nothing fancy but things must be done. Trying to stay out of debt is a challenge. Growing food and animals though has payed off and gets better every year. I did have more issues with livestock sales this year which really supports me in helping me build on my homestead needs. I guess lots of people are not doing it or quitting… we started 10 years ago and haven’t looked back. We had lots of set backs including job loss on a one income household. We keep going though. We know deep down it’s the right thing to do come what may.
@@marybethwhalen70 , my comments keep getting pulled so I’ll just say this…. I just this evening offered to help my family on my property start a small garden next season with easy tried and true veggies… they are too busy… I’m literally hitting my head up against a wall of people who are completely outta touch.
No one around me wants to do anything!!!! I’m living in an upside down world.
Please check out Rose Red Homestead's video on water bath vs pressure canning everything. Water bath canning low acid foods (meats, carrots, potatoes, etc.) or "dry canning" is like playing Russian roulette with poison. You can get an electric pressure canner (Nesco/Carey) sometimes for about US $110. I know the larger stove top ones run closer to $200 and up, but the Nesco can get you started with small batches (4 qts). You may be able to save enough to get one like that in a relatively short period of time, or if you save enough for it, you may just hold off until you save enough for a larger Presto. The All American pressure canners are a lot more expensive. You may even find a deal on one somewhere. I wish you all the best, and hope a pressure canner finds its way to you soon. 🩷
Yes and check on marketplace and other used places.
I just used your "turn your waiting room into a classroom" analogy with my 18 year old granddaughter this week. It really applied to her situation.
Glad Ezra's arm bones are healing properly. He's a trooper. He also has a wonderful heart and is whip smart (don't worry it won't go to his head).
Oh man. House organization is my nemesis.
Just ordered your sampler pack and two other teas. I wasn’t aware that you sold teas. I don’t drink coffee so was excited to hear and support your new enterprise. 👩🌾🌻💚🫙 ☕️
you always talk about what I need to hear at the moment!
I really don't know how you do it, but I needed this very much today. Not just for my house (I had 6 rubbermaid totes delivered today 🤣) but also living in gratitude for the job I have. Tis the season!! And thank you for being transparent with us. One of my Fave things about this community.
Thank you, we have been waiting to build our dream home for 3 years. We are aso live in a mobile home. This has really given me the push to start stewarding this home more than I have.
I have to get my house in order too. God bless!🌱🌾 pray we can all do it.
I feel this in my soul. Thank you. Live the dream every day.
My goodness that child is adorable 🥰 little boys have a special place in our hearts!!!
Congratulations on the new tea line at Beulah. I'm sure it will do just as well as the coffee line 🙂Excellent message about stewardship of all the things we have, including our homes. Taking care and making improvements to what's been given to us allows us to live in a place of peace and gratitude ❤
It's amazing how many times your words have been so convicting, and it's never a bad thing!
We too, have been working on getting our house in order, but begrudgingly. Please pray for my husband and I. 🙏❤
Praying now, especially that you are overwhelmed with joy in the process!
@@RootsandRefugeFarm Thank you so very much!
I needed this video. We need to do this So much!
My 6year old highly enjoyed seeing Ezra making his cup of tea and listening to you!
As always…WISDOM Jess! Thanks for sharing and “I “ bless you!
Can that boy get any sweeter! Love seeing Mr. Ezra come on and talk! He is so smart! Thank you again for talking right to me! Like being in the last pew at church and the preacher is talking right to you! 😂❤
Wow yes, the Native American drawing is so beautiful!!!
You are right Jess, it is not the end result, but the journey that you find happiness in. Enjoying where you are, making the most of it, and progressing as time and life permits. It is not a race, but a well enjoyed journey.
❤ Thank you. This reminded me that putting off the enevible will never bring peace. You are wise with our Creators heart.
Great to see your smiling face, today! 😊
I go to church on Sundays, but girl, I get so much from your sermons. We speak the same language. Thank you and bless you ❤
I LOVE this! I often am looking forward, which is ok, but not treating my present as the present. Love all of your wisdom, Jess. You give me peace.
Tearing up less than 5 minutes in, way to go Jess! ❤
I am so glad you made this video! Felt like for about 4 months things have been off fo y'all. Glad you have come to this decision! Love & blessings to the Sowards!!! ❤ 🙏
This is 100% going to inspire us to tackle our kitchen drawers 🙏 Any home you touch is filled with beauty and blessings. Thank you for sharing all the stages and seasons of your wonderful journey 💓🌻💓
Stewarding what you have well is a good word. Thanks for the encouragement. Ezra stopping in to chat was so precious as well. His arm made me wonder, how is your health journey going? It seems like you are doing much better this year.
Awe Jess.. What a Pleasant surprise again!! Out in my hay field flipping windrows to dry for baling tomorrow! Beautiful afternoon in North Central Washington ☀️ 🔆 🌞
Wishing you all a wonderful Labor Day weekend, enjoying what and who you love most!
💚 Just got home from a lovely vacation to Wyoming for the Rendezvous City Beef Roundup in Riverton, and am re-commiting my myself to "get my house in order!" Thanks, Jess, for your wise words today. 💚
Not you calling me out, not the Lord using you to speak to me, in the season we are in. Thanks for this honest video! Totally needed it. God bless.
So timely for me ! I went to the thrift store & dump yesterday. I had a friend help me clean my basement work room to better store mason jars, etc. Making room to get an extra fridge. As a single things become a challenge.
But my 1,080 sq ft house means really being not overwhelmed with "stuff". Less is best. I repurpose. I have a 2 car garage, so one side stores my garden things. Nice to get organized before winter.
I really needed to hear that today. Thanks.
GETTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER..is saying Messiah is coming!
I’m so ready for Him to come….
I thought the exact same. This was more metaphorical in that regard for me, especially since every pastor has been preaching on similar in recent weeks. .. you have to be asleep to miss! Its all there in the last chapters of the Good Book (Thess.,Tim.,Rev.)...
Well said. I needed to hear that. You are empowering to us all. PS: I am not a minimalist either and I totally get you with all your stuff, lol. Love all your stuff.
Literally sitting here in my PJs watching/listening your video while crocheting.
Clearing clutter clears the mind, and lets it rest and find peace.
This is one of your very best messages. Remains me of 2 very well known scripture. "Whatever you do... do to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31. And then in Philippians 4:11 Paul says To be content in whatever state you are in "abound or abase"
Lovely Jess, I have been feeling the same. Getting rid of stuff, more sustainability and more peace.
Lol, I always say I’m a hoarder dreaming of being a minimalist . Seriously this was needed right now. Thankyou
I can't tell you how much I needed to hear this. Thank you!
Yes and Amen!!
It’s so good to see you happy again 🥰. I’ve been watching all your old videos from when you lived in Arkansas. You were so happy just deedling around your garden and showing us whats growing. I love that! So blessed by your inspiration 🥰❤️. God bless you.
Love your double ovens . My mom n dad flipped or rescued homes as I said in the 70’s . One of our homes my mom had double ovens that where Shell Pink, she had my brothers take it to auto shop at school and paint it white . My childhood was a constant move and fix Homes . My dad was an Architect, mom was an Interior Designer/Highschool Art teacher .
Yay! Missing you and your vids! So excited to see you!
This really hits home, on every level!
Yum. Tea & coffee are some of my favorites ❤
We truly feel this video as we have been working for years. Not always easy but love our life in this crazy world we live in.
Your son is so cute! Hope his arm heals quickly!
This was on time! He is always on time! Just amazing. The answer to my prayer regarding our mobile home. Thank you.
wow........just been there in the last few days. organize, clean, remove, donate,. very appropriate for me today. thank you
Girrrrrrl
You are speaking to me. Holy Spirit has been dealing with me about this very thing. I have been 5 years in a teeny tiny (152 sq feet). Temporary 😂
Divine timing.....thank you. So excited to hear of the Canadian, tea drinking Grandma connection. Busted a gut over the baggie with (Canadian)Tetley tea bags, and wondered if there was also a ziplock baggie with scotch mints. Thank you for sharing, and caring.
What I dont have: acres of land, livestock, ponds, large gardens. What I do have: a suburban property with baby fruit trees, greenstalks, a solid home, full pantry, good neighbors. What I did have: a covetous heart. What I have now: contentment with what God has given me.
Ask yourself: when is it ever enough....
Good advice, Jess. I would urge people not to put your head down, blinders on, and just push forward. Unless that is all you can manage. When you take that approach, you miss the beauty of the journey. Love your channel and all the encouragement you give. You are one of the most positive people i know.
This came at the most wonderful time for me. Very encouraging. Thank you and God bless you and your family ❤️🙏
Omg that chalk drawing is gorgeous!!!
Hello from Nova Scotia where Tetley Tea rules as in NFLD!!🤣
This is funny. I'm doing the same thing. I started in my kitchen today. I feel that it's time to get my house in order as well.
It’s so empowering!
me too, I started about Aug 5th
Boy, did I need to hear this today! Thank you Jess, message received. ✨
You are a blessing to everyone who hears you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on life. You are so inspiring. Best of luck with all of your projects 😊
Your Ezra is a handsome young man, really loved him talking about his tea . I actually drink hot tea most mornings with honey and a protein power as my cream or milk. I have actually lived in my home since I was 8 years old and I’m now 69 years old. Loved this topic you talked about, we all needed to hear this . May God Bless your family and home ! ❤️
I so much appreciate you, your words and how you share. I bless you and all of your family as well. Thank you Radiant Child of God 🌟
"If I can't see things, I just forget they exist". That's ME! 👍😃
Oh my word, we’re all so ADHD………
Can I just say... you have matured so much in the time I've watched you. Thanks for the much needed wisdom...this is a timeless message
Couldn’t agree more! It feels great to care for what you’ve got and clean things out as we approach a new season. I’m doing the same thing.
This couldn't be more timely for me. Absolutely spot on! Thank you Jess.
God works in such amazing, amazing ways! Roots & Refuge huge is 100% what has gone me to the garden and homesteading. I have been mentally exhausted lately because I feel the urgency to get on our forever property, get on land, and start “living.“ Thank you from the bottom of my heart Jess for what you said about stewarding the home you have now. Respecting it and making the memories now so you’re not just rushing through. Giving a 100% of your love and care so that someday it could feel like your forever home! Thank you thank you!! I needed to hear such encouraging contentment!
This must be the season for understanding not using our homes as a temporary place.. I have dreamed of the large farm with all the animals. However I am fighting cancer in my stomach and only kidney. My husband and myself have made this one ac piece of land into a full working farm minus dairy animals… he hunts for our meats etc. I grow in every spot I can find.. but yet I still dream of more land… however in the last few months it has hit me to stop using this home like I’m waiting for the next big thing… we have been cleaning out and cleaning up this place… and it feels so good… god knows my heart and my husband heart… and if it is in this will we will one day have the large farm.. if not I will can and put away everything we grow and love this place… thank you for this video..
I’m praying for your healing and your peace!
