Just received mine and I love it. I don't quite get the hate for Burton's art style in these editions. The story is weirder and more fantastical than some people seem to realize, probably because of the show. I find the pieces I like the most are the ones where Burton takes more liberties in terms of illustrating the feel of the scene as opposed to trying to just depict the scene itself. Dany's wedding from AGOT is maybe the best example of this, but also Bran's vision in AGOT and the house of the undying vision in ACOK. Especially considering there is a literal film adaption that I could go to for images, I guess I just wasn't looking for realism here and Burtons art style totally works for me. Obviously this is personal preference.
The work Folio Society is doing with ASOIAF is mesmerizing, I hope I can get them for Christmas this year!
I hope, and believe, that they will keep these titles in print, as I imagine they're quite popular.

I tried to showcase some of the books that I hadn’t seen you or Book Cravings showcase. You two were my inspiration. Thank you for your videos and if you have any tips for mine I would appreciate it. I don’t plan to ever get at the professional looking level your videos do but I had fun creating them.

Folio Society intends to do the rest of the books (3 - the end), but I wonder if they will also do a version of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Fire & Blood.
I love the art style, the way he chooses scenes and depicts characters feels so close to the book.

The illustrations for this one definitely look better than in the first volume. Not perfect yet for my taste but an improvement.

@@waltz9230 personally they look like stuff you see on fan art websites, like amateur art.
Gunnar I think they’re great exactly because don’t try to be modern or realistic. They emulate the look of old medival paintings while not being chained to that artstyle completely. But thats just my opinion

I don't intend to collect this series but I am envious of the attention to detail Folio are giving it. I'd wish they'd given equal treatment to some other of their big titles. Dune readily comes to mind as one where it could have benefited from sigil designs of the various houses/factions being incorporated somewhere in the book's design/layout.
If only their Tolkien books got this level of detail/attention.
Not saying there's anything wrong w/ FS Tolkien books, but after seeing these....
@@insurrbution I believe Folio is lowkey working on a revamp of their Tolkien books, the designs of which are quite old at this point.

i think i forgot he's released in book two so his plotline could really start by book three
Bought this on the day of release, it's great. The illustrations aren't really my thing - still prefer a more realist look for fantasy genre, but still great.
Still waiting for mine even though I ordered them a while ago, sure hope they haven't gotten lost haha

Same! Mine supposedly shipped the 23rd of April and I don’t have anything yet and I’m really scared because that was definitely a dear price. I should have realized covid might be problematic for standard shipping but I never had a problem before, and it wasn’t until several weeks after I bought it that I saw their covid notice.

My last folio society book took forever to arrive. I would not be worried at all.
Does anyone happen to know if the price is likely to be lower for the second edition? I've got the first two hardcover illustrated editions which are great, and would love to collect these as well...except I'm just not excited about the artist's style, at least not $195 excited.
Is there any plan for publishing the following series? Date? Year?
I am going to buy the whole series - it's a real masterpiece from Folio, I could not resist. It seems to be a bit weird so that such superficial entertaining books got so much love and craft. I hope to see Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and The Road done by Folio with such attention.

It’s great but at a cost that is 7 times more ($26 for the current illustrated edition...free shipping) you can’t convince me it’s THAT good.
Red Hood Yeah I agree but if people haven’t checked out the current illustrated edition it has better illustrations IMO and many more. Yes the quality is great and I love the extras the Folio has...and dang those covers are perfect. They know how to suck people into a purchase. I just think 200 bucks is a lot of money for what you are getting compared to what’s out there and I do collect Folios myself. Sam Weber would have made this an instant purchase if he illustrated it.
It looks like Folio is doing a great job with this series but I really hesitate to buy because it felt like, after the first, book GRRM lost all respect for his reader's time. Defintely needs a strong-willed editor.
